Willie dies Willie Brink, a patient who was admitted to Evander Hospital with a broken leg on 13 July, died of lung infection in Witbank Hospital on Saturday, 29 July. The Bulletin reported previously about the way in which Willie was treated at Evander Hospital and that a case of assault was later opened by the nurses against Willie’s friend, Deon Coetzee. Deon claims he never lifted a hand to one of the nurses, he only complained about the bad service after Willie was left with a pile of paper towels covered in faeces. Willie was admitted to hospital after an accident with his scooter. He initially sustained only a broken leg, but according to Deon, his condition deteriorated every time they saw him. He was later transferred to Witbank Hospital’s intensive care unit. “I am convinced Willie would still be alive if he was treated better at Evander Hospital. The faeces were still under his nails when we visited him at Witbank Hospital.” Willie lived with Deon and his wife, Shirley who described Willie as a soft and kind person. “He loved to visit all the churches and he loved people,” said Deon. Residents called Willie Santa Clause because he was big and had a white beard and long white hair. He was often seen sitting around at the mall. Willie bought the scooter from Deon and was about to start working by marketing cheese for a local businessman in Secunda. “He was very intelligent and an excellent chess player. I still read Job 16 to him in the hospital a few days before he died.” The Coetzee family needs money to organise Willie’s funeral or memorial service. If you want to help, contact Deon at 076 734 8329 or Shirley at 076 577 1165.

Protesters gathered outside the council chambers on Thursday during a council meeting.

Municipality owes Eskom millions Govan Mbeki Municipality owes Eskom more than R486 million. According to James Masango, DA Mpumalanga Provincial Leader, the municipality has defaulted on its payment agreement with Eskom. “If we give the ANC another chance in 2019, we will kiss this country goodbye,” said James. “We need to come together in 2019 to rescue our country from the ANC, otherwise we will become another Zimbabwe.” The municipality owes the provincial licensing offices R120 million and

according to DA councillor, Encee van Huyssteen, this amount was R68 million, but the mayor said the provincial office was going to write it off. The municipality owes Rand Water R71 million and R21 million for water and sewerage. Protesters gathered outside the council offices on Thursday during a council meeting and security guards locked the gates to the council chambers. They were allegedly protesting because the mayor, Florence Maboa-

Boltman did not attend a meeting and they were not able to voice their concerns. Rumours have it that the names of the former municipal manager, Mmela Mahlangu and former chief financial officer, Johnny Mokgatsi, are on a shortlist for candidates being considered for the position of Municipal Manager. “We cannot afford to have these two back, they were part of the problem,” said Encee. He also said the project Kodiko, initiated by the mayor, is a total failure.
