Vrydag,24 Mei, was Ouma en Oupa dag by Curro Castle.

Oumas en oupas het die dag saam met hulle kleinkinders kom geniet van wyd en vêr.

Marchant du Plessis het ‘n bottel skeerroom in die hande gekry en al die kinders en oumas en oupas van sy klas terdeë vermaak. ‘n Kleinkind kan mos wegkom met alles as ouma en oupa kom kuier!!!

Dankie aan al die oumas en oupas wat kom kuier het en die dag saam met hulle kleinkinders kom geniet het.

Cable theft impacted community Bethal residents were without electricity from 20 April in Andries Pretorius Street, Spoor Street and Van Hyde Lane because of an electrical cable that was stolen. The replaced cables were stolen six times in a timespan of six months. The thefts took place on a Thursday or a Friday evening. This posed a problem for residents as nothing got done until the next Monday.

On Mondays GMM would reply on reporting of these incidents by saying that they were waiting for a cable, a cherry picker or some spare part. As soon as the cable had been replaced and the electricity restored, the cable was stolen again.

On the evening of 7 May the electricity surged throughout the night… on and off and on and off. Residents lost electrical appliances: fridges, microwaves etc. and lightbulbs blew.

The worst of the whole ordeal for the residents was the amount of meat, dairy products and other perishable foods that had to be discarded in the process. This all happened because of the high voltage surges that passed through the meter boxes.

These are the least of their problems.

The Bulletin reported on the tragic event of a little girl that was shocked to death in the bathtub in December. The same happened to the residents when they touched their gates to open them.

The residents were and are still terrified

that the same fate might befall them or their children.

On 11 May their hopes of sorting the problem permanently, came true.

GMM ensured that they installed the cable on top of the cable pylons that had been there all along.

Michelle Rademeyer, a candidate for the Freedom Front Plus, informed the Bulletin about the horrific experiences the residents were subjected to.

Michelle and her husband, Hennie, assisted the residents right from the

commencement of the electrical disaster.

Michelle is now assisting these same residents to claim damages from GMM, but with the financial problems GMM is experiencing currently she is not sure whether or not the residents will be able to claim. They are still going to submit their claims and will not give up this fight.

In order to submit such a claim the following is required: a claim form from GMM, which can be obtained

at the municipality offices, three quotations from reputable suppliers for the damaged electrical goods and the original slip and in some cases, a qualified electrician has to verify the severity of the damage. This claim process can take between 3 months and drag on for 3 years.

Any council member can assist in this claim process should there be a need for assistance. Ensure that you know who the ward councillor is in your area.

snippets Alleged pyramid scheme fraudster sought by the HAWKS A 45-year-old alleged pyramid scheme fraudster, Moreke Lucky Mayane, is sought by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for fraud and forgery.

It is alleged that Mayane operated an apparent Pyramid Investment Scheme named Weekly Cash Flow from around 2011. He apparently enticed and recruited members of the public across the provinces to invest into his entity with promises of high returns on their initial capital.

The Hawks’ investigation has revealed that Mayane’s entity is not registered with the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA). Mayane has disappeared with a lot of people’s hard-earned money.

A warrant for his arrest has been issued and members of the public are hereby urged to assist with information of Mayane’s whereabouts. Investigating officers; Captain Samson Kolobe can be contacted on: 071 481 3126 or Captain Robert Mugoru on: 082 050 3763

Court interpreter arrested for corruption

A 46-year-old court interpreter at Breyten Court, Simon Prince Shongwe, was arrested by members of the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation on Friday, 17 May, for soliciting a bribe from family members of five suspects who were recently arrested for stock theft.

It is alleged that on 14 May, Shongwe approached one of the police

reservists at Breyten SAPS and offered to assist the detainees. He further allegedly requested that his contact number be given to the families of the detained suspects so that he is able to facilitate their release in exchange of a R25 000.00 bribe.

The matter was reported to the Hawks and a sting operation was carried out which resulted in Shongwe being arrested shortly after he received the money in his office.

The suspect appeared before Breyten Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 May and was released on a R1500.00 bail.

The case has been postponed to the 25 June pending further investigation.

35 Years direct imprisonment for “parolee” On 16 May the Belfast Regional Court found Phillemon Makua (49) guilty and sentenced him for Armed Robbery and two counts of attempted murder.

It is alleged that on Sunday 31 July 2016, Makua who was on parole, was assisted by the couple Mr Mlotha and his wife to collect his goods somewhere in Belfast travelling with a black Isuzu double cab driven by Mr Mlotha. It was further alleged that while they were driving along Carolina road the accused who was sited at the back passenger`s seat of the double cab touched Mlotha on the shoulder and told him to stop.

Mr Mlotha stopped his bakkie and suddenly the accused shot his left ear and the victim laid unconscious on the steering wheel. The accused instructed Mrs Mlotha to unlock the doors. The accused tried to pull Mr Mlotha to the passenger`s seat at the back but he failed. He managed to unlock the doors and went outside and instructed Mrs Mlotha to climb into the back of the bakkie and she did so fearing for her life. The suspect opened the driver`s door and pulled Mr Mlotha out. His wife climbed out of the bakkie to where her husband was lying on the ground. As the wife was trying to rescue her husband the accused shot her in the chin and the accused drove away with their vehicle leaving them unconscious.

The victims were assisted by a passing by truck driver who summoned the police and both were transported to the hospital. Fortunately, they did not die and the wife gave the statement and the suspect was arrested.

The suspect was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for Armed Robbery, 15 years imprisonment for Attempted Murder and 10 years for Attempted Murder.

During the commission of the said offence the accused was on parole serving a sentence on a murder case in which he was convicted on 26 February 2006 which was supposed to lapse in 2021 and he will proceed with the given sentence which is 35 years imprisonment.

All remanded in custody, matter postponed to 30 May for bail application.

Communities should NOT pay monies for government jobs Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety Security and Liaison has been alerted that there are people spreading false rumours that traffic learnerships posts can be secured by paying money to the Mpumalanga Traffic Training College (MTTC) head, Ms. Busi Nkuna.

Ms. Nkuna has never received money from any person for placement at the college.

We therefore condemn in the strongest possible terms the spreading of this misinformation.

We are also calling on any persons who have paid any money to come forward so that any claims are duly investigated.

The Department is once more making a clarion call to communities to expose such fraudsters by reporting them to the police.

People should stop preying on vulnerable job seekers by making them pay for government jobs, internships or learnerships.

Furthermore we want to place it on record that Ms. Nkuna oversees operations at the college and matters relating to the college by relevant units in the department.

Even with the officials responsible for selection processes, no money is solicited from prospective learner cops.

It should also be noted that the Department did not advertise any posts at the MTTC for the current academic year.

Members of the public are encouraged to disregard such people and not give them any money but report them to the police.

Job seekers should be aware that as long as they meet the requirements, they should freely apply.

Four people killed in N2 road head on collision A head on collision between a light delivery vehicle (LDV) and a sedan that happened on Saturday, 25 May, around 19h00 on N2 road between Ermelo and Mkhondo has claimed four lives. The deceased include one driver of the sedan and three passengers. The four died at the scene due to impact of the crash.

The driver of the LDV sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at a hospital in Ermelo.

The Road Safety Engineering team in the department along with the police have already started with investigations into the crash. In the light of several crashes experienced in the province since Friday, motorists are called upon to use the road with greater caution in order to avoid further loss of lives due to road accidents.

Wieleskou 2019 massive success Wieleskou 2019 had the organisers running all over the place to ensure that it was as successful as previous years. The extent of organisation that goes into an event as big as this one is enough to scare anyone away, but not the two ladies who took on this feat!

When arriving at the gates of Graceland Hotel, Casino and Country Club one’s heart would sink looking at the long queues of cars wanting to enter in front of you. The number of visitors was surprising Upon entering the grounds, the ant nest of people and stalls could look intimidating for some, but with the

careful and proper planning the stalls were spaced perfectly and the layout ensured enough space for walking without feeling claustrophobic like what often happens at other fetes.

Rock Crawlers from U4A and a Big Foot from LA Sport offered wonderful entertainment on the left side of Graceland. There were amazing displays and shows by the GMM Fire Department and Langamed. Kruinpark Primary School and Secunda Primary School Trompoppies had charming shows and the Oosterland High School band played lovely songs with their 70 musicians. Such attractions kept

all the fete goers on their toes. Radio Kragbron had music, competitions and interviews during the day.

You have heard the rumours of: “It is too loud!” and “There are too many people!” these rumours are a fallacy. It is most definitely a local is lekker show not to be missed and one that can be enjoyed by all! If you missed this year’s Wieleskou, ensure not to miss it next year.

Ds Marius Britz Ek het hierdie week baie aan groet gedink. Soos in totsiens sê by afskeide; afskeid van gemeentes waar ek bedien het en plekke waar ek gewerk het, van kinders wat oorsee gaan, van baie siek mense wat jy besoek in die hospitaal, van vriende wat verhuis, van ‘n verswakte ouer wat vêr van jou af bly. Met die onderliggende moontlikheid dat jy en diè wat jy groet, mekaar nooit weer gaan sien nie. Miskien is hierdie gedagtes oor groet aangewakker deur die slegte nuus oor Piet Botha wat ernstig siek is aan verspreide kanker. Piet wat so meesterlik in Afrikaans rock, met liedere oor oorloë, oor grafte en konsentrasiekampe.

Ons Generaal van Afrikaanse musiek. En toe ek luister na Piet se lied Ou Swerwer op sy nuutste album, het dit half vir my geklink of hy self besig is om totsiens te sê: “Miskien sal jy eendag die antwoord kry / maar dit maak nie meer saak nie / want die dice het geval / ek wens dit was nie waar nie / maar ek sal nooit weer met jou kan dans nie/… daar’s ‘n tyd om te gaan.”

Afskeid neem is bitterbos. ‘n Tipe van ‘n amputasie van jou menswees. Dit kan op geen manier daardie saamwees vervang nie, daardie

kuier om ‘n vuur en die glasies rooiwyn wat geklink word met die woorde “la-gayyim” om ‘n wonderlike samesyn te vier nie.

Daardie hand-om-die-skouer poseer vir selfies, die uit-diemaag-uit-lag is nie tegnologies vervangbaar nie.

Die mense vir wie jy langs die pad totsiens gesê het, word jou vuurherd met ‘n vlam van goud as jou hart vanaand neuk om winterkoud te raak. Dikwels vertel elke herrinering van ‘n afskeid sy eie nostalgiese, maar ook vreugdevolle verhaal.

Die finalejaarsklas wat na die gradeplegtigheid op die trappe van die Aula by Tukkies staan, en ná die groepfoto, hulle akademiese pette in die lug gooi.

Die offisiere wat pas tweede luitenante geword het by die Lugmagkollege, wat na die finale bevel “Uittree!” hulle vlugpette in die lug gooi. Van baie van hulle hoor jy nooit weer nie. Dalk spoor jy jare later een op facebook op, maar die merke van Vader Tyd het jou onthou van hulle verwring, sodat jy ‘n paar keer moet kyk om seker te maak dis wel hulle.

Of die afskeide waar jy en jou vriende met stroef gesigte by die teraardebestelling van een van julle staan, en luister hoe die dominee sê: “Die Here het gegee, die Here het geneem, die naam van die Here sy geloofd.”

Dr Bosch reached Black Mamba status A recent Facebook post caught my eye. On 15 May the Secunda Animal Hospital posted the following: “Please wish our wonderful veterinarian Dr Louis Bosch well. He is completing his tenth Sani2C which will award him with Black Mamba status (that’s an official thing). His equally impressive son in law will be completing his second Sani2C awarding him with Viper status (that’s not an official thing, just something we made up).”

The Sani2C is not for the faint hearted.

This gruelling mountain trail biking (MTB) race was the dream of Farmer Glen. Farmer Glen and other racers would be dropped off in the middle of nowhere and then be picked up again in the middle of nowhere by his wife, Mandy.

By 2004 Farmer Glen was confident that they had a great and challenging route. He organised with the relevant landowners, authorities and communities and 2005 saw the inaugural Sani2C. This dream started in 1998…

When talking to Dr Bosch about the Sani2C his eyes lit up and a smile covered his face from ear to ear. The excitement in the room was palpable.

Dr Bosch started by telling me that the race starts at the foot of Sani Pass and ends at Scottburgh. This MTB race is a three-day stage race and has to be completed as a team. 2008 saw the doctor’s first race being completed with his teammate, Andries Meyer. For three years these brave men took the race head on. Unfortunately, in 2013

Theo van Deventer and Dr Louis Bosch at their final destination, Scottsburgh, after a challenging three days.

Andries passed away of cancer.

Dr Bosch and Carl Toua teamed up to take on the race in 2013. In November of 2013 Dr Bosch was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer, but the trooper that he is he fought back and by 2015 he was back on his mountain bike taking on the hills of the Sani2C again, this time with his son in law, Theo van Deventer.

This year was the Doctor’s tenth race and he rode with his son in law again.

The race didn’t go without any hiccups, but this did not stop him.

He laughed and blushed a little when he said: “I enjoy this race so much. I might not ride the times I used to in 2013, but I am 60.”

Looking at Dr Bosch at 60 having survived cancer and still having the courage to take on a demanding and mentally and physically challenging race such as the Sani2C, is brave and inspiring. - Ané Prinsloo

Niane’s Woolshop help graag onkologie pasiente Die Haak en Steek Hekelgroep het ontstaan nadat Niane’s Woolshop geopen het gedurende Junie 2018. ‘n Aantal dames het versoek dat daar ‘n hekelgroep gestig word vir saamkuier, hekel, deel van wenke ens. wat die groep tot gevolg gehad het. ‘n Versoek is gerig tot die dames om sakkies te hekel vir verskeie Onkologie Afdelings by hospitale in Pretoria. Die sakkies word gebruik deur dames

wat ‘n mastektomie ondergaan het om die “Portovac”, waarin die wond dreineering sakkie in gesit word, om pasiënte makliker beweegbaar te maak.

Die groep het almal ingespring en tans skenk hulle ongeveer 100 sakkies per maand gedeel tussen die Wilgers Hospitaal, Little Company of Mary en Pretoria Onkologie. Skenkings vir wol en dames wat bereid was

om te help hekel, het van alle oorde gekom. Daar is ‘n voortdurende behoefte aan die sakkies. Die groep het besluit dat hulle ook wil uitreik na die plaaslike Onkologie Afdeling te Highveld Mediclinic. Aangesien hier nie mastektomies uitgevoer word nie, het hulle gemmerkoekies gebak om vir elke pasiënt te gee wat weekliks kom vir bestraling en chemoterapie.

Ons versoek alle lede van die publiek

wat betrokke wil raak, hetsy sakkies hekel of om afval wol te skenk, of net wil kom saamkuier op ‘n Dinsdagoggend om 10h00 te Niane’s Woolshop en sodoende ‘n verskil te maak, om Lizette Marsh by 084 335 3995 te kontak. Een Saterdagoggend per maand word daar ook gehekel en gekuier. Hekelklasse word aangebied vir die wat nie kan hekel nie. Gebreide sakkies is ook welkom.

The Cairn at the SR Shell hole A party of military veterans visited the Scottish Regiment Shell hole situated in the country town of Greylingstad in the province Mpumalanga on Friday.

The reason for this venture was the re-visit of the hill, just outside Greylingstad, where the Scottish Regiment during the Anglo-Boer war established a camp.

One’s attention is immediately drawn to the Cairn that outlines the center of the little paved area, on the lefthand side of the path leading into the shell hole when driving into the road leading into shell hole’s ground.

Of particular interest is the history behind this Cairn at the SR Shell hole.

A cairn is a man-made pile of stones.

The word cairn originates from the Scottish Gaelic: càrn.

Cairns have been and are used for a broad variety of purposes, from prehistoric times to the present.

One most keep in mind that it was a Scottish Regiment that occupied this hill just outside Greylingstad from 1899 to 1902.

In their fatherland, Scotland, it was traditional to carry a stone up from the bottom of a hill to place on a cairn at its top. In such a fashion, cairns would grow ever larger. An old Scottish Gaelic blessing is Cuiridh mi clach air do chàrn, “I’ll put a stone on your stone”.

Teachers have always played an important part of Mrs Moodley’s life. Be it the teachers that left a lasting mark on her throughout her schooling career or the friends that became teachers or her mum, a fellow teacher.

Her passion was discovered early on when she realised the value and impact a teacher could make in a child’s life. Her humble beginnings began in Durban in 2004… 15 years ago as a teacher.

She received her qualification and taught English in Brindhavan Secondary school for a number of years before relocating to Secunda in 2010. Here she has found a home at Highveld Park High and family amongst the staff. During her 9 years at the school, she has become an asset to the school which can by attested to by her recent promotion to Deputy Principal.

We are very proud and honoured to have her as part of our management team and look forward to the new and innovate ideas and leadership she has to offer.

Curro hosts first Esports in TEKSA

The gamers who competed for provincial colours at the first Esports tournament in the TEKS area. Those chosen for provincial team will represent Mpumlanga nationally.

This past weekend, 25 and 26 May, saw the first Esports tournament and the Mpumalanga Championships in the TEKS area hosted by Curro Secunda. This tournament always used to be hosted in Middelburg. Esports brings different platforms together: PC, console and cell phone formats and board games such as Morabaraba.

The games competed in were: Paladin,

Mr Johan van Breda, CEO MSA, Mr Marius Bissett, Curro, Mr Etienne Smit, Curro High School Phase Head and Mr Jessie Joubert, COO MSA.

Counter Strike, Clash Royale, Dota, Tekken and FIFA. Morabaraba forms part of Mind Sports South Africa.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is an affiliate of the South African Confederation of Sport and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and recognised by the Department of Sport and Recreation (SRSA) as the national controlling body in terms of the

Sport and Recreation Act of 1998 (as amended). The said Act recognises Mind Sports South Africa as the sole authority for its disciplines as a sport and/or as a recreation in the Republic.

Panda’s Cue Sport’s Sanele inspires youth

Pandas Cue Academy hosted a cue sport clinic and competition the past weekend in Ehlanzeni Mpumalanga.

On the outskirts of Kanyamazane at a small village Kabokweni, Panda’s coach Sanele Jozina assisted the juniors in a coaching clinic, one of many more clinics.

Pandas Cue Academy will host various coaching clinics at schools across Mpumalanga.

Sanele Jozina and his fellow coaches have started with cue sport awareness at schools.

Panda Cue Academy will officially open on 16 June at Lake Umuzi Waterfront in Secunda. Sanele Jozini had a vision to introduce the game of Pool within the Mpumalanga province, especially at schools following the donation of pool tables by SACCS at certain schools.

“I have a pillar of strength in

organising pool game structures at schools and to assist the young players at these schools through and during practice sessions and organising tournaments.” Sanele said.

He continued: “I’ve put one pool table at Kabokweni WEM School on Sunday, that would be in line with the structure of development. They will be having games on Friday, WEM School VS STINTILE School.

This will include an opening competition, Scotch doubles, two boys and girls and five boys and five girls from each School.

I wish to take this opportunity to say thank you to the Panda’s Cue Sports by donating the awards and the ten cues.”

Panda Cue Sports provided the cues and trophies to the various coaches. There are currently six coaches who are linked with various schools in Mpumalanga.

These ladies were chosen to be part of the Govan Mbeki ladies team that will be playing in the Darts South Africa national tournament in Port Elizabeth from 24 to 30 June.

Minette Oberholzer, from Govan Mbeki Darts, will be representing the mpumalanga province at the Darts South Africa national tournament in Port Elizabeth from 24 to 30 June.

Rees Naidoo from the Govan Mbeki Darts will represent MP Masters at the DSA national tournament in Port Elizabeth from 24 to 30 June.

Banyana Banyana’s kick off to Women’s World Cup Banyana Banyana… What does that mean? Banyana is from Nguni and means the girls. Banyana Banyana is also the name of our national women’s soccer team who left for the FIFA Women’s World Cup on Thursday, 23 May, in France. This year marks history for the team as it is the first time that they qualify for a FIFA World Cup! Banyana Banyana was formed in 1993 and their first official match was on 30 May 1993 against Swaziland. The

team’s first big break came in 2012 when they qualified for the first time for the Summer Olympics. In 2018 they blew everyone’s expectations out the window in Ghana at the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations when they qualified for the finals. Unfortunately, Nigeria beat South Africa 4 -3 in a shootout. This was after the game ended after 30 minutes of extra time!

The Banyana Banyana team is being led by two pros: Coach Desiree Ellis

and Captain Janine van Wyk. Both these women have achieved amazing feats in their careers. Coach Ellis was a midfielder for the team and also the only person to have ever won the COSAFA Cup as a player and a coach. The team was also voted 2017 CAF African Women’s Team of the Year at her hand. Captain Janine made her national team debut in 2005 against Nigeria in the African Women’s Championship. She played her 100th cap for South Africa against Namibia in 2014 and became South Africa’s most capped player (male or female) when she made her 125th

appearance against Cameroon. On 18 September 2018 she played her 150th cap for South Africa. The Bulletin was at the send off at Sasol Place and the atmosphere was electric! The team walked into the hall and the crowd burst into song, whistles and screams.

Sasol has been a sponsoring the team for the last 10 years.

The team departed for France on the same day to prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 that will commence on 7 June in France.
