THE FRAME HOUSE

PROJECT INFO

This Dwelling project is to create a dwelling space within a specific plot located at Dover forest west. This entails the consideration of my client’s unique lifestyle as a full-time and professional photographer, along with her contrasting needs for spatial utility; Private living spaces for personal use and public gallery spaces to display her works.

CONCEPT

To design a dwelling that addresses the client’s needs of wanting an open space to promote more opportunities to display her works within the dwelling while providing personal spaces to tune out from her hectic life.

Thus, this gave birth to the strategy of framing specific views to display to the public to achieve spatial disconnection between her personal spaces and the public gallery spaces

SITE ANALYSIS

Even though the plot posseses unfavourable site conditions, there are opportunities within the plot context that can be leveraged on to maximise the potential of the design.

OVERALL DESIGN

The concept of having an open floor plan results in the promotion of circulation within the first floor of the dwelling, providing visitors with the opportunities to make visual connection with the client’s works.

The use of full height openings not only helps with bioclimatic aspect of the dwelling, but also allows seamless circulation throughout the whole dwelling.

The strategy helps making the whole first floor seems all are connected in a way or another. This allow the paint and photo gallery to always be part of visitor’s spatial journey.

The framing of view notion is used both internally and externally, but with two distinct purposes. while the outer frame is used to draw attention to the house’s gallery from the outside. The purpose of the interior frame is to draw attention away from the visitor’s private access to the upper floor, which is primarily used by the building’s owner. This gives the owner peace of mind that no visitors would be able to access her private areas.

This is necessary since the first level is open and there is a chance that a visitor would inadvertently trespass into the owner’s private areas.

FIRST STOREY PLAN

The First Storey being the place where most people gathers and group together and visit the client’s gallery or continue their social acitvity . The open concept layout can be clearly seen, the whole space is being interconnected with a centeral courtyard provide a core circulation it provides a ease of circulation throughout out the whole first storey allow spaces to be linked

SECOND STOREY PLAN

The second storey is a very different spaces as compare to the first storey as this space is solely meant for the tenants with consideration of not wanting to share her own personal spaces with others. This space is important to provide a space that disconnect her from the first storey.

SECTION A-A

The layout of the dwelling’s segment that serves as the entryway makes it possible to recognize locations quickly at the point of entry because everything is visible from that point on. At the very point of entry, areas like the gallery, kitchen, and photoshooting rooms may be viewed.

SECTION B-B

This section shown the different spaces being connect by the central courtyard, this allow simple circulation between the varies space within the dwelling. The disconnection of the private space of the client can also be seen as the master bedroom is isolated from the storey below with it own private balcony.
