Illusion & Reality

Recording I try to see the world through window frames. I find they help me focus my vision allowing me to discover the details of life.

Research I summarized some of the shapes of the doorways in Suzhou gardens, as well as the symbolism represented by each doorway, and presented them in the form of paintings.

Starting Point I was born in the south of the Yangtze River, where the architecture is dominated by ancient towns and gardens, the most famous of which is the Suzhou Garden, where every window and every doorway is like a frame for a stunning view.

I also tried to paint some scenery and elements in the cave door to get a feel for the framed scene.

When I look out of the doorway into the landscape, am I becoming the landscape within the doorway?

As I pass through these doorways and windows, what is the view from the other end of the doorway?

Cyanotype These real scenes exist in the memory, real but vague, as if just an imprint in the memory, so I use blue tan to bring out such scenes. At the same time, blue tan is a natural colour and has a classical atmosphere, which can form a stronger contrast between the real and the unreal.

Final Plan When looking at the landscape outside the doorway, real things and imagination always overlap, so I used surreal techniques to express my imagination with the landscape inside the doorway, and then combined it with the real scene.

“TV Buddha” Artist NamJune Paik made a statue of Buddha sits in front of a TV set and camera, and the image in the TV set is also a statue of Buddha. The moral is that when you meditate and meditate on the statue of Buddha, you also become the Buddha.

1. Pour the AB liquid into the tray at a ratio of 1:1 and mix well. And brush the AB liquid evenly onto the watercolour paper and shade dry.

2. After shade drying place them on the film sheet and reverse over to cover.

3. Put them in the sun for 1520 minutes in a place with sufficient UV light.

4. After drying, rinse with water and leave to dry.

On the uninhabited city road, snake-like flashlights shoot out colorful lights, mushroom flying saucers emit circles of light in the sky with lights, and on top of the saucer crawls a mysterious creature wearing a hat. The flashlight is surrounded by many colorful balloons with mysterious objects hidden inside.

Final Outcome

A mushroom cap sprouted from the top of an ancient tower that had been around for a long time. The camera that sprang up spat out streams of water, and several gargoyles emerged from the water. Antler torches grew on a nearby wall, and a pair of legs appeared next to the torches.

Nails and triangular cones kept falling from the sky on the aisles of the residential building. A hogweed that seemed to talk and grow teeth fell from the eaves, and several breasts decorated the residential building like lanterns.

A garlic lantern fell from the jewelry store’s place setting, a flower demon burrowed out from under the tablecloth, and a cake-shaped demon was next to it, its tentacles communicating with an underground pond.

Setting I made a device to show the feeling of viewing and being viewed more intuitively.

Further Design I tried a couple of windows in the filmstrip, with the colour inside the window being its own colour and the colour outside the window being covered.

RESPONSE from the world Starting Point I’m not a social person and communication stresses me out, but I find that I am communicating with environment every day.

Recording I documented the way I communicate with environment on a daily basis by taking photographs.

I found that touch is an important way for me to communicate with the environment, and the materials in the environment bring me different feelings, so I recorded the feelings of my touch.

I feel differently when I touch each material, some make me feel warm, some make me feel safe, and some make me feel pain.

Conclusion Sensory neurons are able to receive stimuli from inside and outside the body, transmit excitation, and can communicate visual and auditory sensations.

Vibrant colours on the exterior for eye stimulation

When stimulated the neurons slowly move closer to each other, but all neurons have tiny gaps between neurons and do not fully intersect connections.

The eye is so close to the brain that neurons are conveyed directly from the back of the eye to the back of the brain.

Neurons are located all over the body. Take the sense of touch as an example, when the hand touches a cactus thorn, the pyramidal neuron first transmits the contact signal to the spinal column, and then through the spinal column to the central nervous system of the brain.

I made a story to express my feels when I communicate with environment.

It’s like she’s covered in these breathless malice.

Many hands reached out to her with thorns in their hands.

She walked through the crowd, they all had the same face looking at her with oppression

She walked toward a forest.

I wonder who tore off a corner of her dress and put a thorn in it.

The forest became colored because of the tentacles.

The thorns on her body touched the trunks of the trees, and where they broke off, tentacles grew, changing the color of the thorns on her body and the trunks of the trees.

The puddles she stepped over, the water she cupped in her hands, the rocks she touched, the endless mountains, the vibrant colors brought to her as well

The sharp spines on her body gradually withered and turned into tentacles.

The jungle she ran through, and the willows that fell changed color

The world in her heart turned colorful.

Isaac Julien Exhibition: ‘what freedom is to me’ Location: Tate Britain

In this image of the project, there are many screens depicting a tree from various angles. It’s one of the most common scenes in life, and then all of a sudden there’s a hanging leg, which provokes thought and speculation.

Suddenly, a hanging leg is put on the screen, which triggers people’s thoughts and speculations I learnt about multi screen in this exhibition.

I think this method can better show the details and divert people’s attention.

I can use this method to complete the multiple details that I want the audience to notice.

Covered in bruises, elf ears, syringes stuck in its head, pieces of glass stuck in its body, tubes and sharp teeth in its mouth, blisters on its belly, it looks like it wants to scream.

Chromodoris Willanii It had a jellyfish hood over its head, silver tubes sticking out of its body and mouldering, eye after eye, cutlery sticking out of one eye, and tentacles floating easily at the bottom with a sense of relief.

Starting Point Recently, the news reported that human beings have discharged nuclear wastewater into the ocean, and I was wondering if the radiation in the nuclear wastewater will cause marine life to mutate after it enters the ocean.

Fighting Fish Starfish Plastic hat, red strings wrapped around the body, beak hanging from the horn, yellowing blisters, large beak leaning against the butterfly style body, and an evil grin that makes you feel overwhelmed.

Octopus Buttercup-looking wings growing out of its back, eyes about to explode from its skin, snails on its stomach, balls of wool on its body, and a hint of madness revealed in its teeth.

Sharp spines all over its body, a skeleton snake spitting out of its mouth, a coral-covered tail, and a tree trunk growing out of its stomach all speak of its anger and loss of control.

Dolphin The bone in his mouth, the grass barrier in his mouth, the crocodile skin on his body, the squid whiskers, the pincers sticking out of nowhere, all of these seem to be signs of his anger.

Collage I began to wonder what marine life would become to adapt to the changing environment. So I made some collages to simulate the shapes of sea creatures that mutate after ocean pollution.

I refined their parts, combining multiple organisms to visualize what they would look like when mutated.

I try to simulate the underwater landscape by filming it, so that this weird and unrealistic landscape is combined with mutated creatures.

Development I localised all these pictures to de-emphasise the feeling that they were contaminated.

I tried to draw small elements to complement the mutated sea creatures. I started with a draft and tried the element of dripping ink in the background, again to add to the feeling of pollution.

The mutated light that fell from the sky shone on this sea hare, and the fish floating underneath looking at what could only be seen as outlines was like a dialling of the clouds.

The Reunion Starting Point

Research I lost my dog recently, I really miss him. so I’ve been thinking about how I can see him again, so I went to learn about Chinese funeral culture.

In Chinese funeral culture, we believe that we are still able to communicate with the dead, and the way to do that is through the smoke of burned objects.

Development

Storyboard I wanted to see my puppy again. I started to think of stories, like drawing a post office that receives mail, where the puppy can receive gifts from me. Another example was that he would receive snacks from me in the dog bowl. But in the end, I thought, my dog left me, and in his perspective, I left him, so I wanted to do a story about the puppy’s perspective.

I learned about the folklore of paper burning.

We make a paper tie of something we want to send them, burn it, and the dead person receives the item on the other side of the world. Like this burning Christmas tree, it will go with the ashes to the other side.
