I developed a love-hate relationship with photography taking photos as a child, with a little point and shoot camera. I loved the idea of photography, but the results I achieved were always disappointing; soft focus, too bright and always a little later than the moment I hoped to capture and so I lost interest. About 10 years ago my Dad brought me a dSLR and all of that changed. It was the lack of a shutter delay that won me over mainly, suddenly I was capturing moments, complete ones as opposed to the tail end of them that had frustrated me as a child and I was hooked. I have no photographic training at all, my one and only course was on Street photography in London, I have learned through research and the work of others and by taking photos, lots of photos. In 2009, I exchanged my Canon 300D for a 5D and very slowly started to take things more seriously. I discovered photos from the early Isle of Wight Festivals taken by David Hurn and through him learned of Henri Cartier-Bresson and Magnum, about the ethos of reportage photography and about photographers such as Martin Parr who have made their careers and their reputations photographing every day life in this Country. I try to take some of the Magnum ethos with me whenever I take photographs, regardless of the subject. Using static elements to create backdrops upon which, if you are particularly lucky, the elusive decisive moment may occur.

Festivals and music events are a source of huge effort and joy for many people and I approach them with intention of capturing that with as much honesty as I can. Acoustic Originals at Quay Arts and their tent at the Isle of Wight Festival, the Kashmir CafĂŠ are examples of this, created and attended by hard working individuals and music lovers, motivated by nothing more than love of music. With this exhibition I have selected a series of images that tell this story. They are not linear and follow no narrative but weave reportage and stage photography to provide atmosphere, so you know what happened and how it felt to be there.

Camera on Kashmir will be shown again during Isle of Wight Festival week in the Quay Arts CafĂŠ. I will also be showing a series of images about Rhythmtree Festival during May and June at Dimbola Lodge, Freshwater.
