New boats DESIGNS | LAUNCHES | PROJECTS Oyster 595
In a world where yachts just keep getting bigger it’s always nice when a manufacturer goes back to its roots and that’s exactly what Dufour is doing with its new 32. This is a pocket-sized cruiser from the pen of their preferred designer, Umberto Felci. It’s definitely the starter boat in their range but features plenty of beam aft (3.31m to be precise) meaning that there is generous volume. The boat has a well-dimensioned rig and bulb keel which, combined with a modest displacement of 4,900kg, suggests this is a yacht that will be a polished performer.
Readers of Sailing Today with very long memories may recall that Oyster Yachts announced the launch of the Rob Humphreys designed Oyster 595 back in 2017. Well, there has been a lot of water under the bridge since then but the boat is finally here and looks every inch as stylish as promised. As you’d expect, this is a blue water cruiser designed to be sailed by a couple. Ease of handling is therefore a priority as is the importance of fast ocean passage making. The boat features a centre cockpit with twin helms. Down below, the standard layout has a large stateroom aft with two double berths forward, plus a bunk room.

Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 380 Jeanneau’s Sun Odyssey 380 is the second smallest yacht in their Sun Odyssey range of cruising yachts behind the 349. As such, she is seen as something of a gateway into the range. Despite this, the 380 is a roomy yacht with distinctive lines; to this end she boasts the immersed forefoot and forward chines seen on the Sun Odyssey 410. As an added bonus, there is the option of a swing keel which boosts the versatility of the boat. Standard interior layout will feature two large doubles forward and aft, but there is the choice of a third aft cabin. l jeanneau.com
