Today we begin a new series. This will highlight key sites in Leicester relating to the growth and development of Leicester City Football Club. • Leicester Fosse, the forerunner of Leicester City FC, was founded in 1884. • At that time rugby union was the dominant sport locally, but football was RDS ROAD gaining in popularity. • In common with many other Victorian NORFOLK football WALK clubs, Leicester Fosse FC emerged from a chapel background.

The Emanuel Chapel just before it was demolished in the 1970s, when it was being used as a scrap metal depot.
