An Education for a Lifetime
Your child is unique – and so is their educational journey.
Whether joining CHS in our nurturing Pre-School or Reception class, entering the Senior School aged 11 or joining us for the decisive Sixth Form years, our focus remains on each individual pupil.

Each learner has their own strengths, skills and talents, as well as those areas they feel less confident in or find more demanding. We are proud to offer a relevant, stimulating and dynamic education, enabling every child to develop as a well-qualified, socially confident, independent young adult.
The educational journey embraces more than the classroom environment; it is equally about the co-curricular opportunities through which your child can grow and flourish.

Where the Waconians are

Waconian
(wa-kau-ni-an) - noun
A pupil of Cheadle Hulme School. The term derives from the School’s original name, The Manchester Warehousemen and Clerks’ Orphan Schools.
Celebrating 150 Years of the School’s Main Building at its site in Cheadle Hulme, the School’s founding principles stand as strong today.
When the School was established in 1855, co-education was at the heart of its vision and to this day, boys and girls continue to learn, work and develop together, benefitting from each other’s insights and interpretations. Growing up and learning through co-education makes sense to us and best prepares young people for adulthood. In a co-educational world, real learning takes place when pupils understand that we decipher the world around us differently based upon our background, values and gender. Learning how to listen to, challenge and accept diversity is an important lesson from the earliest age.

The CHS Experience

As Waconians, pupils are offered an enriching educational experience and are prepared for their path of choice through a rounded curriculum.
Our Waconian Values

From Pre-School to Sixth Form, pupils learn together and independently, and their broad timetables encompass all aspects of the wider CHS experience.
Through an ACTIVE, ACADEMIC AND ALTRUISTIC curriculum, each learner is provided with opportunities to help them make the very best of their journey. Our aim is to encourage and challenge pupils academically, whilst providing opportunities for personal and social growth, leadership, and commitment to social responsibility.
This is implemented through a diverse CURRICULUM that combines traditional study with an understanding of the importance of well-being. A varied CO-CURRICULAR programme and numerous outreach opportunities allow pupils to step away from their studies to explore and pursue their wider interests and develop their passions.
At the heart of the CHS experience lies a set of core values instilled in all Waconians -
INTEGRITY, ENDEAVOUR, RESILIENCE,
COMPASSION AND CONTRIBUTION. Our pupils learn about these vital qualities as part of their pastoral and well-being lessons and are encouraged to consider their contribution to life at the School and within the wider world.
As the future is impossible to predict, pupils leave CHS ready to tackle all that lies ahead, whichever path they choose to explore or wherever their lives may take them. This ethos chimes with that of the original founders of the School in 1855. Keeping values at its heart, the academic experience, pastoral care system, and co-curricular programme, all work together, maximising every pupil’s potential.

CHS’s Sixth Form students have their own dedicated Sixth Form Centre featuring a large independent learning area, two separate spaces for group work, silent study and meeting rooms, large common room and café. The entire building is fully accessible for wheelchair users.
An Inclusive Community

No journey is complete without the people encountered along the way and at CHS our inclusive community makes the School a welcoming environment for all of our families.
A successful education involves more than child and teacher: it flourishes from a broad network of people who contribute to the development, growth and experience of the individual. The School’s motto, ‘In loco parentis’ is the foundation of our ethos.
Expert teaching and non-teaching staff work together to provide the best learning environment. From PreSchool to Sixth Form, our pupils form bonds with their peers and benefit from mentoring, coaching, instructing and guiding. Parents forge friendships and share in the CHS experience.

Community at CHS extends beyond the School gates. We strive to build positive local, national and international partnerships and provide opportunities for our pupils and staff to truly make a difference.
Our broad Outreach and Partnerships programme includes many ways CHS pupils can get involved, whether working with local primary and secondary schools, fundraising for global organisations such as UNICEF, or supporting the work with our partner school in The Gambia. “CHS encourages children to be well-rounded and inclusive which is important in the real world”
