I’ve shared many times that on my first day at the Council on Aging (May 1, 2014), Rev. Juanita Milliken grabbed my arm and said these simple but profound five words: “Do right by my seniors.” Keep in mind, that she was about to celebrate her 102nd birthday at the time, and she was not joking. Her directive was not meant to benefit herself but rather all her fellow seniors. Rev. Milliken understood that growing old can be lonely and challenging. She had experienced firsthand the importance of the services, programs and volunteer opportunities offered by our Council that help seniors feel more secure and live more fulfilling lives.
