the return of face-to-face classes closes in, many are still hesitant if the five-day in-person classes will be safe and efficient. “No matter what world you create nor you’ll go, your triumph is desolation. Time does not rot and is omniscient of all but you, you are destined for your own desolation.”

Being a servant leader As the former college secretary, there is a great contrast to his current position as the dean of the college, decision-making and proper judgment have been the main difference in the job duties. He emphasized the importance of decisive thinking and action, as well as being prudent and careful – always acting based on what is right and what is humane for the affected people in the decision. Time continues to tick down. Hours are left before the fateful May 9, and we are burdened with the impending fate of our country that lies within our hands. To choose and decide who will pave the 6 years ahead of us, must be a choice of reason. A leader isn’t chosen for us to serve, they are chosen to serve others. Anyone can be a leader but the great ones stand out from the rest. With the nearing election day, an exceptional leader that stands within the Pamantasan’s halls has an important message – Danilo S. The inaugural was commenced by singing the Philippine national anthem, who was sung by Marcos election campaign supporter and actress Toni Gonzaga, followed by an interfaith prayer, a brandishing moment of civil-military parade displaying — the assets and capabilities of the country’s law enforcement and defense agencies, and a walk of citizens from honorable fields in sports, health, and others were recognized.Theinauguration was followed by the arrival honors to the Malacañang Palace which was succeeded by Marcos leading the mass oath-taking of his Cabinet members. An inaugural dinner was also held inside the Malacañang as the feast in the form of a “People’s Concert” took place at around 9:00 p.m. at Mendiola in Manila. The inauguration comes after the Supreme Court’s ruling of Marcos Jr.’s tax evasion convictions from 2016 did not disqualify him from taking office. This was also followed by the announcement from a Philippines regulator about the shutdown of investigative news site Rappler, which is known for its criticality of the previous government.

WRITTEN BY: ZARENA C. HERMOGENO Ferdinand “BongBong” Romualdez Marcos Jr. became the official 17th President of the Republic of the Philippines, as he took his oath of office at the grounds of the National Museum of Fine Arts on ThursdayAfternoon.36 years of the 1986 People Power Revolution and ousting of his late father and namesake, former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr. — BongBong Marcos Jr. was declared to become the new leader of the country. The 17th President took his oath before Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, in a sharp Pepito Albert barong Tagalog which was inspired by the military uniform worn during the Spanish colonial period. His family, friends, and loyal supporters were present at the event. Among the personalities seen at the inauguration were members of the Marcos family, his wife, First Lady Liza Araneta, their children including representative-elect Sandro Marcos, and the President’s sisters; Senator Imee Marcos and Irene Araneta along with the President’s mother — the Marcos family matriarch — former first lady Imelda Marcos. The appearance of Marcos’ running mate Sara Duterte, who is also the newly-elected Vice President, was observed. In his first speech as president, he thanked the crowd for delivering what he described as “The biggest electoral mandate in the history of Philippine democracy.” He began the speech as a tribute to his late father — FEM Sr., who is known for his ruling in the country— through iron fists for two decades. The administration plunged the country into martial law and took control of the country’s courts, businesses, and media. Military and law enforcement abuse was rampant during his father’s tenure and tortures and murders of thousands of dissidents and political opponents were observed. With this, he urged the people to look beyond the future and move on from “in anger or nostalgia.”Despite this, he reassures the nation in his speech that “You (nation) will get no excuses from me” as he emphasizes the repeated call for “national unity”, a refrain that prominently sustained his campaign.

Jinggoy Estrada thanked his family and the Filipino people for once again giving him a chance to serve in the Senate. He served two terms as Senator from 2004 to 2016 and was accused of plunder and anti-graft and corruption charges in 2014. He faced three years of detention before being released in 2017 after being granted bail. Risa Hontiveros commended the Filipino people for upholding their civic duty and coming in record numbers in the past election and thanked them for the renewed trust given to her. Duterte also won the majority of the electorates with 32.2 million votes, establishing a large margin over her contenders. Because of these great numbers and what he called a “valuable expression of trust,” the President-elect asked for prayers and well wishes for the job he is about to take. “I ask you all—pray for me, wish me well. This stigmatized, discriminatory notion isn’t new. It has been going on for generations and is still being observed. It can be directly tied to the common Filipino characteristic of being practical and even applied most especially to life decisions. We always want the easy way out. We opt for that in-demand degree due to its fat paycheck or the honors and recognition associated with it even if it doesn’t align with our skills, talents, and/or abilities. It is indeed true that degrees belonging to the Bachelor of Arts (BA) are regarded as “hobbies” or rather “passion” converted into a formal curriculum. Hence, most do not take it seriously due to the presumptive thought of being a hobby to be done when bored and learned when in need of a creative spark.

Students’ Point of View Students in different academic institutions are preparing for the possibility of the upcoming face-to-face classes. To begin with, the students must be physically prepared through getting vaccines and boosters due to the mere fact that the COVID-19 virus is still in the country. In addition, according to a study, due to the continuous isolation and lack of interaction with fellow students and teachers, the abrupt transition to online classes may affect the students psychologically. Schools and colleges play an important role in addressing the academic, safety, and social needs of students. The activities offered by various schools and colleges may have a significant impact on their mental health. Additionally, students are facing financial crises, especially as our country faces economic problems such as price inflation on goods, services, and transportation costs. All of these have a significant impact on poor students and their families. That is why many college students work in order to provide for their families and support their educational needs– making it difficult for them to prioritize whether to attend school or work.

There is also a presence of belittlement and shame upon those who are taking Mass Communication solely connected to the above-mentioned reason. This is also strengthened by the belief that the work done in Mass Communication is an easy task to do pertaining to phrases like “Sulat sulat lang yan eh” or “Nagkaklase pabakayo?” that makes the value of their work lesser and lesser in people’s perspectives.

Thepleaforthegovernment In a school setting, it consists not only of the students but also involves teachers and faculty members. Thus, all of them face the same issue in regards to holding face-to-face classes. The employees within the schools or universities know the fact that the lack of facilities in the institution will limit their capability to follow health protocols. Moreover, every day will be a risk as they interact with different people. Amidst the pandemic, the teachers demanded and appealed to the government about increasing their wages as the market has skyrocketing prices. Even though their children are fully immunized, parents are still hesitant to allow them to attend full faceto-face classes, and it is tough for them to put their health at risk. In fact, the National Parent Teacher Association reported that more than half of the parents they examined declined to permit their children to attend school the previous school year where their primary priorities remained health and safety and costly transportation. The parents and teachers urge the government to assure regular testing, precise contact tracing, and medical care for the children and other staff members inside the school once the COVID transmits, as the full face-to-face classes are about to begin. Moreover, they demanded additional funding for more teachers and classroom expansions in order to ensure the students’ access to high-quality education. However, news of only “optimistic”, “urged” and “bats” just indicates the “plan” of the administration to do so, not giving a concrete statement nor action to the said appeals. The Administration’s obsession Subsequent to the appointment of Vice President Sara Duterte as the new Education Secretary, the Department of Education (DepEd) plans to launch faceto-face classes as soon as possible.

While the world is engulfed in solving the pandemic, where healthrelated research became the utmost priority more than ever—the educational sector greatly suffered. It is admirable that the government prepared contingency plans to cater the students’ educational needs through virtual learning. However, it is not sustainable, as it is meant to be just an “alternative” and cannot replace learning in person. With that, the demand for face-to-face classes arose and became much louder. In the month of July— the new Education Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio ordered that starting November, public and private schools must fully implement faceto-face classes in accordance with the DepEd Order No.

Thus, even though there are ‘new’ infrastructures, Filipinos still experience trouble in transportation.

Let us be real… All of these new infrastructures that were made are very car-centric, it is not for the people.

ALPAS JAMES CLARENCE M. ALBANO

These complex problems that we are facing in the transportation sector should be tackled comprehensively. Focusing only on one thing will not solve everything however, it will just worsen the current station. The ‘LibrengSakay’is not the only way out in this unending cycle, it only exhausts our funds.

The Vague Promises: Have we lost in translation?

In these instances, I cannot help but wonder— what our 17th president is doing to tackle this torturous challenge that we are currently experiencing?Justlike numerous political candidates, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., the current president of the Philippines and son of the late dictator, made pledges when he was still vying for the presidency.

The Filipinos who live in the lower strata of society suffer the most as a result of rising inflation in our nation. Demanding from our government a clear vision and strategies to decrease the impact of this price hike, which is negatively affecting the lives of many people on a constant basis, is appropriate at this time.

Incoming Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles caused uproars among netizens, scholars, and professionals, when she expressed her enthusiasm for allowing vloggers to cover Malacañang events. A similar move to outgoing Communications Secretary Martin Andanar’s chess piece in 2017– the Department Order (DO) No. 15 which aims to accredit social media practitioners, to cover former President Rodrigo Duterte’s events to generate news and information through social media platforms.A move that makes the walls between vloggers and journalists thin as their job descriptions are now alike. Despite placing vloggers and journalists in the same room, their differences are drastic. The former is not accountable to any institution except itself. There are no verifications before publishing their story, as their shared information does not undergo layers of editing. And scarily, their credibility is defined by how massive their viewership is. Under DO 15, accreditation can be issued to Filipino vloggers (social media practitioners, as they put it) who are at least 18 years old and who have at least 5,000 followers on any social media platform– a ridiculously low standard for someone who is assigned to the prime beat in the journalism industry and will be responsible for how people perceive the government.

As an Asian country that has always been on the frontline of receiving the effects of climate change, the Filipino nation expects that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. would tackle the energy security and climate crisis as much as he would with the inflation, economic recovery, and COVID-19 pandemic in his first State of the Nation Address (SONA). But after he pledged for the betterment of the nation, did his plans and actions really care for the people and the environment at the same time? On the surface, Marcos’ plans for the energy source sound satisfactory, as he wanted to opt for renewable energy to lessen the impact of climate change in the country as well as to lower prices including electricity rates as one of his promises.

Without a doubt, Manila is one of the most congested cities globally. With over 40 Million commuters in the Philippines, only 200,000 jeepneys are available for them knowingly it is the most dominant mode of public transportation, indeed it is not enough. Even before the pandemic, there are already an existing crisis in our transportation and now that we are on the pandemic, it only worsens. Filipinos think of options on how to cope with this problem. They tend to walk for miles, ride bicycles, motorcycles, or even e-bikes just to ease their burdens.Today, commuters wait too long for transportation, since the number of public vehicles is not sufficient for the number of people, therefore, commuters pile up just to have a decent ride. The alarming fuel crisis as well adds up to the insufficient public vehicle for the commuters. With a 30% rise for gasoline and 66% for diesel this year, it totally hits public vehicle drivers. This is also the reason why some public vehicle drivers choose not to continue their jobs. Over 26,000 drivers lose their jobs due to fuel rise. See? How the unending cycle never ends and it only affects almost everyone. Without properly addressing this kind of difficulty, the cycle will not end.

It is not practical at all since this program has specific spots where they can cater to passengers. With that, they should focus as well on our drivers because aside from the commuters, they are the ones that suffer a lot in this trouble. As a matter of fact, around 68% only were already given fuel subsidies and the rest of it all is still waiting. If the commuters are already struggling, the drivers as well since they are the first ones that are affected by fuel rises. Focusing more on people’s mobility will definitely solve this problem. It is about the efficiency of the infrastructures that they made.

Every single day, it almost feels the same, as we hear news about price increases on various goods that we consume. From fuel, chicken, sugar, and even the famous “pinoy pandesal” which we typically eat every morning, as our breakfast.

All in all, may it be about climate and environmental action or any relevant issues, what we really need to see and hear is not just a play of motherhood statements but a clear plan that concerns the people and the place we are standing on.

” No one can replace society’s watch dogs no matter how strongly they are being maligned. It is time to snap from the hypnosis of disinformation that the perpetrators cultivated for so long to steer the narrative in their favor. The truth is the only narrative.

The standards for social media practitioners are not even up to par as far as journalists go– they are required to finish four years of Undergraduate degree in Journalism, Communications, or any related field and should undergo painstaking training. Their stories will not be released without the approval of their editors who meticulously scrutinize every detail — to ensure credibility as society’s watchdogs. And disagreeing with Cruz-Angeles’s thought process is not even a journalist’s ego and fear of being outshined by a vlogger, but their fear of the country being further infiltrated by inaccurate information. People live by information. But what has become of today’s journalism? If the government wishes to pursue the accreditation of vloggers to cover Malacañang activities, they should at least set the standards higher than being of legal age with a 4-digit follower count and voluntarilyUponapply. application, there should be a series of interviews verifying the person’s identity and credibility. And while reporting for duty, the PCOO’s social media office must verify the information and closely supervise these vloggers. But social media practitioners are still not an alternative to journalists. No one can replace society’s watch dogs no matter how strongly they are being maligned. It is time to snap from the hypnosis of disinformation that the perpetrators cultivated for so long to steer the narrative in their favor. The truth is the only narrative.

“We still cannot see the edge of this unending cycle in our transportation sector as our current government focuses more on other matters and does not see this as a critical one. As Filipinos, clamor more for a better transportation system because everyone deserves that!”

A Red Flag on his Green Agenda

The government should build accessible terminals, walkable pedestrians, and the like for the people to move efficiently. Investing in public transportation is a must since 70% of the commuters in Metro Manila rely on this. It should be safe for the people and inclusive that it will not burden the people just to ride on it. This problem should be addressed well by our government since it daily affects the Filipino people. Putting a ‘band-aid solution’ in this kind of situation will not solve it all, it will only worsen the daily lives of the commuters. Make programs that will help the commuters and drivers as well. Yes, ever since the transportation sector had its problems but this is the challenge for the current administration, people should call for comprehensive solutions in the transportation sector as it has a great impact on Filipinos’Aslives.they say, people who use private cars in their daily lives should not decide on any programs or changes in our transportation sector as they did not experience what public commuters faced every day. In order to solve this problem, know what people really need. See the problem from their perspective and they will know what is truly needed in this difficulty.

It can be remembered that BBM’s supporters loudly cheered in UniTeam rallies every time he mentioned his intention of pulling down commodity prices, electricity and fuel, and the retail price of rice. And now that he is in the position, it is just right for Filipinos to loudly demand clear and specific plans in his administration.

Excellence in providing quality education through efficient teaching and learning management, establishing a conducive environment in the workplace through differences and diversity, flexibility to uncertainty and challenges that we face, deliverance of quality service with compassion and passion, and lastly, contributing resources that are not only beneficial to the Pamantasan, but to the Filipino community.

Achapter of history is now over, six promising presidential candidates caused an uproar: Ka Leody De Guzman, Isko Moreno Domagoso, Ping Lacson, Bongbong Marcos, Manny Pacquiao, and Leni Robredo. As the Philippine National Election 2022 came to an end last May, the Filipino people have spoken as Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. won. Former President Rodrigo Duterte officially acknowledged Marcos Jr. as the President of the Philippines in his inauguration on June 30, 2022. The presidential candidates had various reactions upon knowing the results: Some of them still pledged to do their duties as public servants of the country and help their fellow Filipinos while others said they will now focus on their family and private life.“The transition has been completed and we only have one country and so we only have one inmyaftershouldpresident.Heisnowtheheadofthegovernment.WegiveMarcosourfullsupport,”Dutertesaid.TheformerPresidentRodrigoDutertewasspottedinMakatilivinghislifeasanordinarycitizen.HealsoattendedaneventinDavaoCity,the“Salamat,TatayDigong:HomecomingConcert”.DutertewasgratefulforhissupportersandseemedtohavefunonthesaidoccasionPingLacsonandMannyPacquiao,chosetolivepeacefullyandprioritizedtheirfamilies.“I’mgoinghome.Afterbeingawaytoolonglookingtheneedsofotherpeople,itistimetoservefamilyforachange.Enjoyingpeaceandquietthesechallengingtimeswillprobablybemylife’sgreatestreward.”Lacsontweetedadayaftertheelections.

As different issues surfaced before, during, and after the election, it became quite a topic. There is no denying that something has changed, not only in the lives of the presidential candidates but also in the people. Some accepted the new administration while there are still who do not acknowledge them. This just proves that it is still not over for the newly proclaimed officials as they face another challenge of earning the trust of most Filipinos and uniting the Facebook.news/manny-and-jinkee-pacquiao-family-vacation-in-europ-73738Cinema.Javier,Iskonet.Inquirer,challenge-harness-campaign-energy-advocacywww.philstar.com/headlines/2022/07/01/2192292/robredos-angat-buhay-launches-campaigncandidate%20Manny%20Pacquiao,winning%20his%20second%20amateur%20japan/photo#:~:text=Jinkee%20Pacquiao%20and%202022%20presidential%20entertainment/celebritylife/travel/15607/look-jinkee-and-manny-pacquiaos-trip-in-GMAGeli,Julysisters-proud-of-mom/mb.com.ph/2022/06/30/leni-gets-mixed-emotions-as-she-leaves-vp-post-robredo-Robredoelection-statements-following-partial-turnout-of-votes/trends-spotlights/2022/05/10/216948/presidential-bets-leody-ping-isko-release-post-elections.-,country.C.R.S.M.,By,&-.(2022,May10).PresidentialbetspostmessagesadayafterInteraksyon.RetrievedJuly2,2022,fromhttps://interaksyon.philstar.com/Antonio,R.(2022,June30).Lenigets‘mixedemotions’assheleavesVPPost;SistersProudofMom.ManilaBulletin.RetrievedJuly2,2022,fromhttps://CitizenduterteattendshomecomingconcertinDavaoCity.MSN.(n.d.).Retrieved2,2022,fromhttps://www.msn.com/en-ph/news/national/citizen-duterte-attends-homecoming-concert-in-davao-city/ar-AAZ2LlWB.(2022,May23).Look:JinkeeandMannyPacquiao’stripinJapan.Network.RetrievedJuly2,2022,fromhttps://www.gmanetwork.com/fight%20in%20the%20U.S.Gregorio,X.(2022,July1).Robredo’sAngatBuhaylauncheswithchallengetoharnessenergyintoadvocacy.Philstar.com.RetrievedJuly2,2022,fromhttps://P.D.(2022,July1).RobredolaunchesAngatBuhayFoundation.INQUIRER.RetrievedJuly2,2022,fromhttps://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1620032/robredo-launches-angat-buhay-foundationMorenoDomagoso-Facebook.(n.d.).RetrievedJuly2,2022,fromhttps://www.facebook.com/iskomorenodomagosoH.(n.d.).Photos:MannyandJinkeePacquiao’sfamilyvacationinEurope:StarABS.RetrievedJuly2,2022,fromhttps://starcinema.abs-cbn.com/2022/7/1/(n.d.).RetrievedJuly2,2022,fromhttps://www.facebook.com/KaLeodyDeGuzman of 2022 Philippine Elections Aftermath

On the other hand, Isko Domagoso Moreno pledged to perform his duties until the end of his term. “Life must go on. Katulad po ng ipinangako ko noon sa inyo, hanggang sa kahuli-hulihang araw ko po bilang Alkalde ng Lungsod ng Maynila ay magtratrabaho po ako.” Moreno tweeted. As his term came to an end, he also took a step back in politics and focused on being a father and a husband. Both Ka Leody De Guzman and Leni Robredo decided to continue their obligations to serve the people and fight as empowered citizens. De Guzman uses his platform to advocate for the laborers and do volunteer work to help the Filipinos. He also held webinars and went on to different interviews to educate the public, share his perspective and opinions about the new administration, and promote his advocacies.LeniRobredo launched a project called “Angat-Buhay Foundation”. The challenge is to maintain the program as a non-governmental organization. The project endeavors to help the Filipino people and continue her advocacy. As the dean, it is an important function to have balance with the administrators, the management, and the students. Listening to the voices of your constituents, particularly the faculty and the students that you are serving is a duty of the dean. He also highlights the importance of providing holistic development, when it comes to the acquisition of competencies and skills for the departments of CHASS, namely the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities & the Departments of Languages and Literature. Honing critical thinking, creativity, and innovation among the students are important factors in helping the student become a holistic person through the general education programs the Pamantasan provides.

Ms. Katrina Faith Nuñez, has also shared the same sentiments as she labeled the whole speech of PBBM as shallow and emphasized how it could have been better if he tackled other things such as plans on how to solve certain challenges that we are currently facing nowadays in our country. Aside from that, Ms. Nuñez mentioned how our 17th President could have been more understandable by many, if he just delivered his speech in our native language. Political analyst Jean Encinas-Franco has a similar statement to what Ms. Nuñez said. She said that BongBong Marcos Jr. might have been more inclusive in his language selection, but she also acknowledged that delivering such a lengthy presentation in English, could be more comfortable for Nostalgiahim.was also felt when our 17th president mentioned his father—the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. in his speech— praising him for all the things he had done for our country.

It must be for our welfare. To serve us in the finest manner they are capable of.

As this excruciating reality continues, I cannot help but be inquisitive—have we lost in translation? Have many Filipinos got too carried away with our president’s elusive promises? Or perhaps we expected too much from someone who did not understand the screams of the marginalized sector?

“Cock-a-doodle-doo” as early as 7 a.m, a long queue can be seen in front of different precincts. These individuals are patiently waiting outside despite the hot weather, for the betterment of the nation. However as they entered the voting centers with hope, their eyes turned dark filled with despair.

VCMs FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE, ARE THEY STILL EFFECTIVE?

PBBM started his inauguration speech by acknowledging some of the important people who attended his inauguration ceremony, some of them are Senate President Vicente Sotto III and the honorable members of the Philippine Senate, Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, and the honorable justices of the Supreme Court, and the former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos. After that, he proceeds to emphasize how the Filipinos have spoken their voice in the last election, as he described it as “The biggest electoral mandate in the history of Philippine democracy,”, and how they rejected the political division by choosing him since he is pushing for the unity of the whole country.

Ms. Charlene Mhay Batongbakal, the current president of the Mass Communication Student’s League, was impressed with how our president-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. presented his speech; nonetheless, there is nothing else that is spectacular aside from that according to

Malfunctioning voting counting machines (VCM) and faulty SD Cards greeted the voters. 168 VCMs and 176 SD cards were reported to be defective. The voters were given 2 choices: 1. Is to sign a waiver that the person will leave his/her ballot to the electoral board for them to be able to batch-feed it to the VCM later with the watchers or; 2. Wait patiently until the broken VCM is replaced. Some insisted that they should be the ones who will enter the ballot into the machine; thus, they waited for almost 5 hours for them to feed their ballot personally. The Commission of Elections (COMELEC) claims that the machines were “outdated” and caused such events. Before the national elections started, they went through various stages of preparation, which the machines and ballots undergo including the Final Testing and Sealing (FTS). That time, the authorities assured the people, “I will consider it flawless, perfect. I’m very thankful that it turned out this way” Comelec Chair Saidamen Pangarungan said as he observed an FTS in San Juan.

June 30, 2022 – a day which is filled with both optimism for a better tomorrow for our nation and concern about the inauguration of our elected-president Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The dividing line between people’s opposing political perspectives is becoming sharper. The Philippine National Police (PNP) has set aside three freedom parks for the inauguration of President Bongbong Marcos (PBBM), to accommodate the number of rallyists who would organize a protest on the day of the inauguration, while the ceremony is expected to draw an estimated 30,000 people. A really historical day for all the Filipinos.

Vague Promises

Although “unity” is the president-principal elect’s platform, he has put out some of the initiatives or areas of emphasis for his government on several occasions. One of the most well-known promises of the 17th president is the “Php 20 rice” or lowering the prices of rice which really drew the attention of the public. However, if we are going to put our attention to what is happening to our economy today, you can easily feel the irony. The current inflation rate of the Philippines for the month of June 2022 escalated to 6.1 percent according to Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) compared to 5.4 percent in May 2022. The cause for this is the greater annual growth rate in food and non-alcoholic beverage costs, which increased from 4.9 percent in May 2022 to 6.0 percent in June 2022. In addition, as per PSA statistics, the rise in oil prices has also contributed to these increases in consumables due to the spikes in transportation. All of the commodities we buy locally are affected by this, yet the government doesn’t appear to have any plans to address this worrisome situation in our economy. In fact, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. even said that he “disagrees” with these statistics, saying,“We are not that high,”. Despite the fact that this is the fastest inflation reading since October 2018’s 6.9Thepercent.Filipinos who live in the lower strata of society suffer the most as a result of rising inflation in our nation. Demanding from our government a clear vision and strategies to decrease the impact of this price hike, which is negatively affecting the lives of many people on a constant basis, is appropriate at this time. We should start thinking about adding accountability to the picture, as we witness how these ludicrous promises made by our 17th president seem to turn into a utopian fantasy. We should all remember why we are voting for these candidates and the reason why they are in that position.

May 9, 2022 – It may be an ordinary day to others, but for the Filipino people — it is one of the crucial days as the future leaders of the country depend on their choices, and witness another chapter unfold.

suiting up myself I opened the doors. The lustrous chill of the morning breeze greeted me without hesitation and as I was walking down the snow-covered pathways I saw her, the maiden of my eyes standing in an alley waiting for me. As soon as her emerald pupils caught a glimpse of my gleeful smile, I I can’t seem to remember my name I’m thankful that one of your angels is the one, I would spend my eternity with. Our hands joined each other’s embrace and paired the cold mornings with warm greetings. Magic and mystical arts and beasts exist in this world. If you favor traveling by hooves then the chariots with Pegasus as mounts would bebestyour choice but if you want to travel by car, machinery in this world is run by magic as well. Mr. Willows is our charioteer for I once again can’t remember for how long and a few seconds later he arrived with his majestic steed, Icarus. I opened the door for her and guided her hand, Mr. Willows who’s a gentleman of his own league smiles, “No matter what world you create nor you’ll go, your triumph is desolation. Time does not rot and is omniscient of all but you, you are destined for your own desolation.” It was that voice, a hollow voice whose emotion is vague and intention is blank. I heard it again, this voice but why? My desolation? Time does not rot? I was violently fixated on thinking about what just happened. I spaced out. Warm hands saved me from the cruel

theseQuestions,God-forsaken questions started to condense in my mind, what was in front of me are cinders of burning wood, flesh from a mystical beast, and two humans. The morning breeze was cold, but the warmth from this hellish nightmare is enough to warm even my soul, warm my soul with agony. I woke up from my alarm. The world changed a lot when my wife died in an accident. She was my one and only maiden in this world where magic, mystical arts, and beasts don’t exist and cars are powered by fuel or even solar energy. My tears trusted the solstice for its inevitability to change. I tried creating a world wherein I can at least be with her, superficially or even unrealistically. Everything that happened to me is the andlongedeuphoriaoppositepolarofandIforhercarelove.Howcanthis be my triumph if all I have gained is desolation? I was able to live through this sympathetic, cruel, and joyous world because my wife pushed me away as the car was about to hit us. She even made that smile—that smile that had the intention of saying goodbye.

“Now you’ve claimed your part, you can bargain in the future but at the end of the day, your triumph is your desolation” That voice. That same voice. Please leave me alone. Sierra, my dear maiden, I can’t wait to be with you again. For eternity.

In those ninety days, when he thought he had “proven” himself to me, there was no sincerity, there were lies. Even though I know I loved him for his pedigree. His dad was illustrious, which pushed me to be blinded by their mischievousness.Butthistimearound, I shall not forget why we broke up in the first place.

I could not let them control me anymore.I should not let them say I didn’t see, because I saw the crimson-red blood. I should not let them say I didn’t hear, because I heard the eerie sound of the screams.

I did what I can because those are the only conditions that I may have. But they – his family – never acknowledged it.

He said to me, “Victoria, ninety days was enough to prove myself to you, I really want us to work out this time.” I still wonder how. I still wonder why… but maybe we are just naturally fragile to forgive people. We tend to blank out. It is underwhelming how our minds are incapable of recollecting the bad memories, yet pleased to celebrate the good ones. Life back then was good—or at least for some. Throughout more than twenty years of relationship, before I went away, my rights were opposed. The horror of silence was too loud. The sun’s position on the horizon continues to shift, casting a glow on the dew-covered spider webs like a chandelier, that’s when I came to an epiphany. I wanted to slip away from him and his family — I have sacrificed enough.

“Desolation will not stop as you are the reason. Time allows triumphs for people to enjoy and defeat for people to reflect on. Your defeat will shatter you and what you are, Desolation is your triumph” Gasping for air as my eyes decided to catch a glimpse of the cold ceiling reflecting my cold breaths. For the sun is radiant on its own, same as winter; whispers breeze through the ears of both the living and the dead. I lit up the lamps with my fiery magic bestowed upon my name — by our ancestors as calm warmth starts to synthesize with the emptiness of my place. Winter mornings are like pacts with our beds, very hard to resist but living in this world is not temporal as well. Winter mornings are always my archenemies. After I was done

Clouds soaring the blue skies were like mystical beasts basking in the radiance of the sun as humanity continues to fall in love with the sight, time once again decides not to favor anyone. As I was walking down the streets, there she was. A glimpse of the maiden who captured my heart. A smile that soothes my past agony and that presence, her presence that made me feel that for one last time I shall continue to walk on this world, alive. A fantasy of our lore started to unfold its own and this world, this sympathetic, joyous, and cruel world was the setting.

lookingfixation, at me worriedly, she asked me how I was and what happened. As I was about to answer, my triumph with the price of desolation was painted right in front of me. One of the engines from the cars malfunctioned and the explosion brought upon the sight I would always want to scrape off my mind. Flames engulfed the chariot, Mr. Willows, Icarus, and most of all Why can’t I remember her name?! What is happening?! I can’t even remember my name?! Who am I? Ancestors? Who are they?

In spite of everything, he’s here again.

I could not let them say that things aren’t spoken nor written, for I, myself, am a witness.

Time welcomes euphoria into its hands just like a mother would welcome his firstborn unto this world, smiling as the bundle of joy seeks the radiance of a mother. Time cuts through everything and it does not favor everyone for the time, it is the harbinger of euphoria and desolation. Once upon a time, I was the happiest of all because that’s what I always tell myself. Winds from the east bring not only the harmonious breeze but rather, an advent that will always be a part of this fantasy.

International Nominations, and Wins

With all the continuous success, wins, international nominations, hit singles, and overflowing support from fans— Indeed, there’s no other way for SB19 but to Go Up! By that, here’s a basic guide for getting to know more about Sb19.

It was on July 10, 2019, that the group announced their comeback with their single ‘Go Up’ on their official Facebook page. It was in 2019 when they released their MV for ‘Go Up’ but just like the first when they released their first single ‘Tilaluha’ nothing happened and luck seems not yet on their side. September 2019, starts the fateful day of their life as a group when their dance practice video clip went viral on Twitter. Their rise to popularity started when a Twitter user uploaded the group’s dance practice video of their single ‘Go Up’. The video has created noise and garnered a lot of attention from the public.

Idea Behind the group’s name SB19

The group’s name ‘SB19’ is derived from their company’s name Show BT because they are the very first Pinoy group that their company has ever launched. Additionally ‘SB’ could also mean ‘sound break’ because the group dreams to break into the Philippines and International scene and bring OPM to the global stage. At the same time, ‘19’ is the summed total of the Philippines’ and South Korea’s country codes—+63 and +82, respectively (6+3+8+2=19). It also represents the partnership or the collaboration between the two countries.

How did SB19 start?

The Kpop wave has been undoubtedly dominating the world. It has been continuing for years now and it seems like the case will be the same in the coming years. It is even impossible for people not to have heard at least one song from Korean groups like BTS, Blackpink, or other popular groups. Clearly, people seem to be slowly embracing modern music from different parts of the globe. Embracing not just the music but also the fact that the world is round and diverse. However, it is not only Kpop that wants to dominate the world and hopes to break into the International scene because, in fact, the Philippines also has its own too. It is no other than, and the one and only SB19—who has been continuously making sound in the Ppop and entertainment industry of the country. SB19, which has been getting support from the public, aims to pave the way for other Ppop groups, and helps introduce Filipino Music to the world. And it is not impossible to happen with their undeniable impact on the people and their fans.

Who are the members of Sb19 and their positions in the group?

This success leads them to become the first-ever East-Asian and Filipino act to ever make a nomination for Billboard Music Award, which is the most prestigious international award-giving body for all the artists around the world. On October 20, 2021, the group was also nominated in the 2021 MTV Europe Music Awards as Best Southeast Asia Act. — CNN Philippines news article Aside from International nominations, the group has also won numerous local awards, especially at the MYX Music Awards. In 2020, the group reigned supreme by winning two major awards—New Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year. They also bagged the Artist of the Year. In 2021, SB19 also dominated the awards night for being the big winner as they brought home again the three major categories: Artist of the Year, Music Video of the year, and Song of the Year. However, just like any people who dreamed of becoming an artist, their journey wasn’t smooth and easy. They had sacrificed a lot and set aside their personal life. And have to train for years without the assurance of tomorrow and beat the odds in the midst of uncertainties. In fact, they almost got disbanded.“Lahat na pag-usapan [na] namin [ na ano] lastna,magri-releasedtayonglastsong, ‘paghindi talaga nag work, wala pa rin nangyari, mag-stop na tayo” Justin uttered on the same interview with Toni Gonzaga.“We all agreed that we would release one last song. If it still doesn’t work out, nothing happens, then we’llAsstop.the group slowly rose to fame, it is not new for SB19 to also receive hateful words and criticism from other people. Despite all the wins and international recognitions, they still hear and read a lot of hateful comments. They are bashed and called names for being allegedly the copycats and wannabes of Kpop. But the group seems not to care and is affected anymore by all the negativities around them.“Aanhinnamin‘yungnegatibongsalitaniyo kung mas kilala naman namin ‘yung sarili namin” Stell words from their group’s online exclusive with BRIGADA on GMA Public Affairs’ YouTube channel.

Now, this is a challenge to the future communicators. No matter where life will take us, this must be our vow to our beloved Pamantasan and all the people who offered themselves for the sake of this generation’s karunungan, kaunlaran, at kadakilaan– to fight with the Filipinos, and combat those who try to dismantle the core of our truth.

ENTERTAINMENT

Amidst all the glamorous and fabulous styles that we can see everywhere physically and digitally, there is an all-time issue that is happening under all those pretty, dainty dresses. As we all know, fast fashion is a gigantic industry that answers the call of individuals who need trendy clothes for cheap prices. One of the setbacks of fast fashion is that all of its products are harmful to the ecosystem, such as polyester, which is derived from fossil fuels, adding to the continuous global warming dilemma. Textile waste is also a concern since the fast-paced production of clothes is equivalent to fast-paced disposal.

As for the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), limited face-to-face classes are being held currently. It is indeed pleasant that the authorities heard the plea of the people. However, obsessing over holding classes only will not make the situation better than now. There are a lot of factors and aspects that the government should consider first such as the safety of the students, facilities, curriculum, etc., in order for a school or university to be determined as prepared. But the authorities do not seem to see the problem at hand, putting pressure on institutions and making hasty decisions just to comply with the order from the administration. Rushing things over without assessing the overall matter is not the best solution.Asthe return of face-to-face classes closes in, many are still hesitant if the five-day in-person classes will be safe and efficient. Once the country had begun to gradually adopt the new normal system, people started seeking safe in-person classes. Now that the face-to-face classes are about to go back fully, the big question is, are we ready to go back, given the COVID-19 cases that are once again on the rise, unemployment rate, insufficient plans, and slow booster uptake? Given the lack of preparation and the limited time available to test-pilot the upcoming in-person classes, the choice will need to be carefully and furtherly evaluated. Although children are less likely to get infected by COVID than other family members, they are nonetheless capable of spreading the virus to others. As more people receive vaccinations without booster shots, the risk of the virus for teachers may also rise.

Aesthetics is defined in many ways, both by the eyes and the mind, which is described by society as “tastes”. Patterns are mixed with different color patterns that soothe the eye, from vibrant colors that project positive emotions, to dark colors that, for some people, relate to the polar opposite of positivity. As we trek through this age of advancement and enlightenment, the world as we know it offers an infinite variety of choices and tastes that, at the end of the day, we are the judge and jury.

the remarkable morning is a woman who made history, Manila Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna– Pangan the first-ever woman to lead the City of Manila; who made the hall cheer effortlessly upon mentioning the subsidy and new buildings to accommodate students’ needs. Stirring hope and creating more opportunities to quality tertiary education for the masses.

On the other hand, a large number of students are slipping behind in their education with the current online modality, which will have a detrimental effect on the development of the nation. Face-to-face classes must return if safeguards can be enacted to ensure the health of both students and teachers in low-risk areas. Nevertheless, COVID-19 is not the only challenge, but as well as the majority of Filipinos’ limited financial means and the lack of funding for other resources, can we really return to face-to-face classes without any constraints? Are we prepared for any ramifications it may have? Or will we simply trulyneglecttheminordertoclaimthatthingsarebacktonormal?

Two years after the onslaught of the ruthless COVID-19, batch 2022 is the first set of graduates to set foot in the convention center and celebrate the 54th commencement exercises of the university– continuously taking pride in karunungan, kaunlaran, at Joiningkadakilaan.

To date, misinformation and historical revision is the society’s nemesis; stunting the country’s growth and creating an unhealthy environment for the future generation. Incumbent PLM President Emmanuel Leyco made it to a point that the university must rise to fight distortions no matter where they come from. This sets another journey especially for the 120 graduates of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences– which majority are latin honorees to soar and defend the legacy of Liliosa Hilao. One question remains after the festivity: “What now?”. The end of a long, fulfilling expedition with the Pamantasan is the beginning of another– living the values of being an Iskolar ng Bayan, to thrive with integrity, and give back to the Filipinos by addressing the deep-rooted thorn of our community–access to accurate information.

Lack of funding and educational and employment opportunities are the main reasons that come to mind why the artistic industry in our country is plummeting. Needless to say, artists do not get paid enough because their craft is not valued as much. Because of this stigma concerning the arts, let alone mass communication, people underestimate the skills of artists, calling it “easy” and could be easily accomplished with minimal payment. Common tasks in communications involving writing, broadcast, advertising, graphic designing, acting, film production, etc. are technically “easier” as it does not involve “as much” effort and depth compared to tasks in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) field. Writing a thousand words, constructing a relevant, entertaining storyline, and/or reading hundreds of pages a day is fairly “easier” compared to coding hundreds of lines of computer code or solving that demonic calculus equation.

OPINION · FROM PAGE 3OPINION · FROM PAGE 3

Fashion is not just about the glamor of your “ootd”, the vibrance of the selection you’ve chosen for Monday, the getup that suits your mood, or even your personal “dress code”. As an individual who is openly engaged with society, one of my realizations towards this matter is that it has its own algorithm, or simply as fashion, is a world wherein it follows its own nature. With the rise of social media, this world has brought itself to a larger population, gaining new eyes that are mesmerized by the combination of colors and patterns, new minds that are curious, and individuals that are eager to try the “fit” they’ve fallen in love with. Now, what you’ll be setting your eyes upon in the succeeding parts is all based on my conceptualization and understanding of how passion in the eyes of fashion is present in the 21st Century.Passion in the eyes of Fashion is a phrase that suddenly appeared in my mind as I was browsing the internet for “trends” in the perspective of clothes, commonly known as fashion, and this is where it all began, the composition of this realization that fashion is one of the windows through which the soul of a person can be seen. As a person whose wardrobe color rotates between black and white, I always find it outstanding and mesmerizing how my colleagues, close friends, and even random individuals from my virtual spaces come up with their own unique “dress code” for each and every day. I’ve always understood this passion of many as a way of “flexing” their fashion sense. Or simply, the collection they have lets them enjoy the freedom to dress what they want and express themselves to the world. But let’s be honest, fashion has its own grounds that we have to consider all the time. Cultural appropriation is the same as degrading one’s culture, and that’s a problem on your side, since, naturally, we are responsible for the preservation of traditional variables such as clothing, hairstyles, or even tattoos.

The thing is, most people fail to realize that these fields are definitely incomparable— each bearing valuable weights on their own and shouldn’t be compared in the first place. More often than not, people disregard the fact that every learning aspect of Mass Communications is being used on a daily basis. From advertising, either through mobile, print, or social media, contents are being critically analyzed and strategized by communication majors to give what the public requires through the factuality of delivered information strengthening their purpose as a trustworthy outlet. As by Atifete Jahjaga, it is through open societies that share information that democracy is built and as so, there is enlightenment. The abundance of well-handled information begets learning. Hence, knowledge-producing areas must be valued as much. Mass Communication students and professionalsto-be are working tirelessly to serve the public quality information through different forms to reach their understanding and meet their needs. Through the words of William Pollard: “Information is a source of learning. But unless it is organized, processed, and available to the right people in a format for decision making, it is a burden, not a benefit”. It is only when communication majors are treated equally and valuably, especially given the correct outlets to perform the work that makes them unleash their potential to influence more people that their career path truly is remarkable. It only takes acknowledgment and recognition for their craft to be known and valued—especially in the world of employment and the mass media industry.

Remember these four core values –Patriotism, Integrity, Excellence, and Spirituality.

Dean Cortez serves as an exemplary example of a leader, his work and dedication to the Pamantasan serve as a remarkable feat that we must look up to. With this upcoming election, let us take his word and not waste this opportunity that we have. The critical step toward our future is here and being able to choose wisely is crucial in forging our paths.

Through leaders with a clear vision and goals, they will be setting the right direction for the country. Dean Cortez believes that a leader must be guided by their principles, and be someone that focuses on the welfare and interest of the Filipino people.

Remain loyal and give your commitment to our nation; Adhere and act based on your morals and principles whether people are watching you or not; Strive for a high degree of standard and do not settle for mediocrity; and most importantly, be guided by your values that are aligned with faith and humanity.

Choose the right. Choose the qualified. Choose the Philippines.

Sotto’s basketball experience was highlighted when he signed with an Australian National Basketball team League during the pandemic and got a chance to take part in the 2022 NBA draft. Although he fell short in his NBA stint, an optimistic future awaits him since he is a hardworking individual.

Contrary to what he pushes, he backs the development of the natural gas industry and exploration of nuclear plants by enacting laws for the said industry when in fact, natural gas, like coal, is still a fossil fuel that now has to be imported in massive quantities. Climate crises that we are experiencing are mainly caused by burning fossil fuels as this produces a large amount of carbon dioxide into the air, and the longer the country depends on it, the more challenging it becomes to mitigate the impacts that continue to punish Meanwhile,us. many are applauding the president for reiterating his agenda to build nuclear power plants in the Philippines but leaves no answer to safety concerns, waste disposal, and extremely high cost that might be passed again to millions of Filipinos who are already struggling with high prices especially now that the present energy policy permits power plant owners to reflect on higher costs to consumers. The Electric Power Industry Reform Act (RA 9136), another of his priority initiatives, has to be properly amended in this area. Indeed, with the Philippines having more than 7,000 islands, the government should maximize the opportunities that will support the country’s shift to clean and alternative sustainable energy sources but it should come with research and consultations of scientists and experts in this field. Also, they must weigh the pros and cons first before making a decision that might compromise lives and nature as well. Aside from the lack of details of his nuclear energy dreams, there are other critical environmental issues that were not discussed and even heard of priority. These include combating plastic pollution, climate and environmental justice, the anticipated expansion of the mining industry, biodiversity and ecosystem protection, green jobs, and the welfare of indigenous peoples. If these green matters are neglected, I think that I will have to disagree that the state of the nation is sound- no pun intended. All in all, may it be about climate and environmental action or any relevant issues, what we really need to see and hear is not just a play of motherhood statements but a clear plan that concerns the people and the place we are standing on.

A message for the Haribons To be a leader requires will, dedication, and a strong sense of patriotism for the country. As the head of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, and with the elections bound to happen, Dean Cortez relays a timely message and reminders for us Haribons.Anexpectation is set for us iskolars ng bayan – to remain vigilant, and to remain socially aware of what is happening around our society. Do not turn a blind eye when it comes to the abuses, injustice, and unfair treatment that we see. Demand the public service that we deserve, remain involved, remain proactive, and be engaged when it comes to advancing the interest of our nation.

Emphasizingbetter.the concept of social equity, we need a leader that gives importance to the people who need it most. A leader that paves the way for a level playing field and provides more socioeconomic opportunities to uplift their quality of life. With a compelling analogy, Dean Cortez expounded that we are in one ocean but different boats. Some are on cruise ships, some are on yachts. There are people who use boats or small canoes, then there are those who are just swimming with nothing to support Properthem. intervention, clear solutions, and enabling support are the crucial elements a leader must be able to do. Public service equates to public trust, a leader must be able to maintain this sacred trust that the people have given them. They are not there to sit down but to stand up and rise for the interest and welfare of the people that they are serving.

The win of National University in the UAAP Season 83 volleyball league is memorable as they ended the 65-year drought for a title. The Lady Bulldogs’ exceptional performance was possible because of their teamwork. One of the notable players of the team is Michaela Belen, NU’s rookie – outside hitter. As she entered the UAAP, she never hesitated to help her teammates as she earned points from time to time. She made history and was crowned as the firstever rookie-MVP awardee. Belen’s UAAP engagement is just the beginning of her story since she still has much to discover.
