Swanny’s Scribbles

Good afternoon and welcome to The Scholars ground for today’s game against Hinckley Leicester Road. We extend a warm, welcome to Hinckleyand hope they enjoy our hospitality.

Going into the game, we remain in good form despite being disappointed not to have taken all three points in our last outing. I thought we did enough to get the 3 points against a strong, resilient Coleshill side but we take the point and move on to Hinckley today. As we experienced from our away fixture, Hinckley are one of the best footballing sides we have faced and their movement is excellent. They have caused problems to each side they have faced and we will need to be at our best to get a positive result.

After last weeks postponement this is the first of our last 8 games and we will be giving everything over the remaining 2 months to try and shoe horn our way into a play off spot.

Our form and performances have been good over the last 10 league game and we are well aware that we will have match, if not exceed, our points return from the last 10…with two less fixtures.

It is great to see Liam Kirton’s fitness levels increasing all the time after his lengthy layoff and also having Mitch Clarke back is going to be a huge positive for us going into the final push. Ben Lund has also returned to training after a hamstring issue said the squad is looking healthy for the run in. Jayden Campbell is the only long-term absentee.

The league will always be our priority and we are fully focussed on the final 8 games. That said, it was nice to get through to the Semi Final of the Walsall Senior Cup. After last Tuesday night, we now know that the winners having a mouth-watering tie against Rushall Olympic to see who will get their hands on the silverware.

Finally, a huge thank you to the supporters. Rest assured the players and management will be pushing harder than ever in the final eight games and your support is vital to try and help us over the line.

Enjoy the game!

Hinckley LRFC - History

LeicesterRoad Football Clubwas formed immediately after Hinckley UnitedFootball Clubwent into liquidation in October 2013 to continue the development of the youth and junior players left without a club and was incorporated on the 4th November 2013 by the four surviving directors.

The former head Football Developmentand all his staff transitioned over to Leicester Road along with the U21,U18, U16, U15 and U14 squads. This enabled all the squads to continue their football development seamlessly without any impact from the liquidation.

The U18 Youth Team continued in the Midland Youth Floodlit League Premier Division. The U16, U15 and U14 squads all retained their membership of the MidlandJunior Premier League. The U18 Youth Team completed a remarkable Midland Floodlit Youth League Premier Division North, Midland FloodlitYouth Cup and Leicestershire County Cup treble.

The Senior Squad was established from thr U21 and U18 squads and applied for membership of the Midland FootballLeague. Leicester Road Football Club started the 2014 -15 season in the Midland Football league Division 2 and finished second to Coventry United to gain promotion to Division One.

Leicester Road Football Club was awarded thr FA Chartered Standard on October 2015.

During the next four seasons Leicester Road finished in the top five of the Midland Football League Division One every season and in the first 3 of those seasons also won the Midland Football League Fair Play Award,Throughout the same period the club retained the same manager and largely the same squad with most players amassing over 150 games.

When the 2019/20 season was eventually expunged Leicester Road sat in the top spot using the unweighted points per game mechanism and when the 2020/21 was curtailed again Leicester Road Football Club were top using the unweighted points per game mechanism.

When it was announced that the NLS would continue with its restructuring plan,Leicester Road were invited to apply for upward movement and as a result placed at Step 5 in of the United Counties League Premier South for the 2021/2022 season.

The season was successful with Hinckley LRFC finishing runners up to Harborough Town.

having at one time going 27 games unbeaten and were promoted to the Northern Premier League Midland Division.

Match Report

The Scholars Ground

Chasetown took the lead with their first meaningful attack on 16th minute. Aaron Ashford chased down a through ball and hooked the ball goalwards. Jack Langston challenged the keeper Michael Duggan who clawed the ball away but only as far as Johno Atherton who adjusted quickly to volley home.

Just before the interval, the hosts thought they had earned a penalty for a foul on Ashford. The referee adjudged a free kick inches outside the box which Langston curled narrowly over the crossbar.

Ashford continued to be a thorn in the Spalding side, weaving in and out of defenders, forcing Duggan into a couple of low saves in front of his body.

The Tulips had a concerted spell of pressure midway through the second half but without threatening Chase keeper Curtis Pond.

Match Report

Chasetown made a dream start with a goal inside the first five minutes. A left wing cross from Johno Atherton deflected into the path of Aaron Ashford who took a touch and fired low past Paul Hathaway.

Kris Taylor volleyed over the bar from close range as the visitors began to turn the screw.

The Scholars almost added a second just after the half hour. Skipper Danny O’Callaghan got his head on a cross and Hathaway quickly adjusted his feet to push the ball wide for a corner.

Coleshill levelled two minutes before the interval. Amarvir Sandhu burst forward from the left back position and set up Kai Tonge who lifted the ball beyond Curtis Pond.

On the stroke of half time, O’Callaghan fired narrowly over the bar.

Chase were awarded a penalty on the hour when Ashford was adjudged to have been fouled but Jack Langston fired his kick over the crossbar.

Neither side could force a break through and the point benefits neither side in the playoff race.

Chasetown in the Community.

Chasetown FC have always been committed to become a club for the community and over recent times we have made strides forward in this area with the introduction or hosting of groups for different ages groups at our club. Another relatively new hosting opportunity we have taken on is hosting a Baby Play session run by local group Spark. These session are run on Tuesday’s, totally free and perfect for your baby to play and socialise! It is also a drop in session so no need to book.

Please check ‘Sparks’ facebook page for updates regarding these sessions.

Another venture we launched in the summer was our Wildcats project for all of the budding female footballers in our community. Is your daughter the next Lucy Bronze or Leah Williamson?

If you follow our Chasetown Youth FC on Facebook you will see where you can sign up online for the next session.

Curtis Pond – Goalkeeper

The shot-stopper came through the youth set up before breaking through into the first team. He became the favoured number one in the October of the 2016/2017 season. Pond has held this position as number one keeper throughout different managerial changes and continues to hold this position for the 2022/23 season.

Alex Melbourne – Defender

Alex signed for Chasetown in July 2019. He is a good defender and has experience of playing in high divisions for teams such as Stafford Rangers and Hednesford Town. He is a pacey, happy to assist in attacking play and isn’t afraid to get the tackles in.

Ryan Wynter – Striker/Defender

Wynter re-signed for the Scholars in August 2020 after a brief spell with local rivals Stafford Rangers. Starting out as a striker Wynter has now been moved to the backline and is a powerful and commanding defender. He picked up Supporter’s Player of the Season for the 2018/2019 season.

Jordan Evans – Defender

Jordan joined the Scholars in July 2020 from neighbours Lichfield City after four years at the club. An athletic, attack minded left back will really add competition in that area for us.

Mitch Clarke – Defender

Mitch joined the club from Rushall Olympic in the summer of 2022. He is a commanding and athletic centre half who has plenty of experience within nonleague to help strength our back line.

Ben Bailey – Defender

Ben joins Chasetown on dual registration with local club Tamworth. Ben will be recognised by Chasetown fans as being part of the defensive line for many years at another local team Hednesford in which he spent most of his career, and being their record appearance holder. Ben has found himself on the bench for most of the games since joining and making a number of sub appearances since then.

Chasetown’s Pen Pics

Oli Hayward – Midfielder

Oli is an attacking midfielder or right back that joined Chase in June 2017. Very skilful with great energy levels, the former Lichfield player also has an eye for goal. Hayward has returned stronger after suffering a double leg break at the start of the 2018/19 season. Hayward is a strong midfielder who helps protect the defenders by putting in the tackles in the centre of the pitch.

Jack Langston – Midfielder

Jack re-signed in November 2017 after a short spell at local rivals Stafford Rangers. He originally joined the club in March 2014. Jack has stayed with the club through managerial changes and is a favourite amongst the fans which is helped by him knowing where the goal is and achieving top goal scorer for the club on multiple occasions.

Danny O’Callaghan – Midfielder

Having won everything in sight for our reserve side under Mark Swann, Doca has since gone on to forge a fantastic career in non league. Danny lists Romulus, Sutton Coldfield, Telford United and Stourbridge among his former clubs and joins us from Rushall.

Liam Kirton – Midfielder/Striker

An attacker who has established himself within our youth set up and has announced himself within the senior squad over the last few seasons. Kirton has grown as a player even inviting interest from Walsall FC. He is a pacey, tall and strong attacking player.

Luke Yates – Midfielder/ Striker

Luke joined from Sporting Khalsa in Summer 2022. He is an athletic, fast paced and creative attacking player, he will add another option to our attacking line up.

Jayden Campbell – Winger

An exciting young player who has broken into the first team squad during November 2022. With his pacey and tricky feet he is a handful for any defender and we look forward to seeing his career progress.

Chasetown’s Pen Pics

Jono Atherton – Midfielder

Jono rejoins the Scholars at then end of November 2022. With him being part of the squad, which reached the play off final in the 2021/22 season the fans are looking for him to add another dimension to the team. With his technical ability and knowledge of the game, he will be a great asset to the team moving forward.

Ben Lund – Striker

Ben joins us from Rushall Olympic following Danny O’Callaghan in making the move to the Scholars Ground. A powerful, pacey wide man or forward, Lund was a key target of manager Mark Swann and we are delighted to have him on board. Sponsored by the Wrexham Scholars

Aaron Ashford – Striker

Aaron joins the club after impressing against us in pre-season when he notched four goals. He adds Chasetown to an impressive CV that includes West Bromwich Albion, Birmingham City, Stourbridge, Boldmere St Michaels and Romulus.
