October 2019 Senior Spectrum Newspaper focuses on two very significant issues that affect us as we age. First, the many scams that target the aging demographic either on the phone, by mail, Internet, or in person. The most widespread of late are scams concerning your Social Security number. If you are like me, I receive multiple telephone calls every month, and while most of us just hang up or do not answer, there are people who do exactly what the caller requests. It is for this reason the Nevada Attorney General’s Office is warning consumers about individuals impersonating the Social Security Administration. The Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection offers tips to recognize this dangerous scam, but the most obvious advice is that the SSA will never call and ask you to confirm your Social Security Number, ask you to pay or threaten your benefits.
