A time of hope and new beginnings

Looking back over the past year, one thing many of us can say for certain is that it has gone by quickly. Perhaps it’s a sign that life has returned to some sort of normality, even if it isn’t quite back to business as usual, following three years marred by covid disruption. Now we can look forward to a 2024 full of hope and the prospect of new beginnings. This year certainly began on a high note with the Golden Bay A&P Association marking its 125th show and the Tasman mayor official opening the reconstructed grandstand. The Bay’s big day out set the tone: Other iconic summer events, such as the Tata Boat Race, followed, Old Thumpers got back on track, and community events and sports flourished. Ray White Golden Bay

That feeling of resurgence is still with us as we approach the end of the year; our two largest schools have just celebrated major reconstructions, and there is a sense of optimism amongst many local businesses fuelled by the return of an increasing number of visitors. But there remains some uncertainty and anxiety about the future. One of the more significant events occurred towards the end of the year, and while it’s too early to gauge the local impact of the newly-elected Government, it’s clear that there will be winners and losers in our community. Throughout the past 12 months, The GB Weekly team of reporters and office staff, along with input from community contributors, has
endeavoured to provide up-to-date news, information and features that reflect the rich and varied aspects of life in Golden Bay, including politics, sport, the arts, local history, personal stories and public events. Thanks to the huge number of talented, hard-working and community-minded people in Golden Bay, we are never short of goodnews stories. And, given the community’s level of engagement with local, national and international issues, there are always plenty of “serious” topics to cover. The production and distribution of your community newspaper is only made possible through the generous support of our loyal advertisers, our legendary courier “TG”, and our dedicated distribution agents who deliver
