Tuesday’s meeting of Golden Bay Community Board began as usual with a karakia, followed by Public Forum. Public Forum Two contributions addressed the same topic – the proposed disability parking space located immediately outside Collingwood’s general store On the Spot. TDC councillor Chris Hill read out correspondence from the store’s owner Rosemary Moretti which pointed out that it would create problems and suggested that the space would be better situated on the opposite side of the road. Rosemary’s letter also requested that a time limit of 30-60 minutes should be introduced for parking on Tasman Street. Reg Turner then made his statement, explaining that, while he had initially suggested disability parking provision, he also believed the allocated space should be located on the opposite side of the road. “I endorse what Rosemary says.” Later in the meeting during Chair’s Report, board chair Abbie Langford volunteered to follow up the issue with TDC transportation staff Robert Deck and Jamie McPherson. She provided an overview of the three-year process, which she said had involved capturing the community’s vision, identifying gaps between current practice and aspirations, and developing projects. She highlighted current “flagship projects” including Project Mohua, GB Affordable Housing, and Farming 2030, as well as future “aspiration projects” focused on local food, sustainable education, and renewable energy. Debbie explained that in order to take the “next steps” Mohua 2042 would need to establish a trust to provide the necessary governance, and asked for the board to endorse the strategy, and to provide seed funding of $500 to help establish the trust. Acting GBCB chair Grant Knowles suggested that all board members read the strategy document which would be discussed at next month’s meeting.
