Community Board JO RICHARDS

Tuesday’s meeting of the Golden Bay Community Board (GBCB) started a bit later than usual and, in accordance with the new normal, public attendance was via Zoom only. Apart from that, the meeting unfolded pretty much as expected. Public forum For the second consecutive meeting, public forum was a short affair. This time there were two contributors who shared a Zoom link to speak on behalf the Golden Bay Cycle and Walkways Society (GBCWS). After acknowledging the positive role of councillors and Waka Kotahi in realising the Bay’s growing network of cycleways, GBCWS secretary and treasurer Richard Struthers asked GBCB to formally support the Society’s updated strategy, which has been developed in conjunction with Golden Bay Mountain Bike Club. “We’d like you to consider the strategy and get a letter of endorsement.” Chair of GBCWS Christine Pullar continued on the cycling theme, but focused on extending the network to include a section from Tākaka to Collingwood. She informed the meeting of the Society’s solution. “We are putting in place an app to record near misses… The Police have given their support, and we would appreciate a letter of endorsement for the Community Board.” Reports Easter Sunday trading The TDC staff report on the draft policy for Easter Sunday trading in Golden Bay was discussed at some length before the board agreed, although not unanimously, to proceed with public consultation as required by law. Chair’s Report The first item in the Chair’s Report related to GBCWS’s requests made in public forum. The board agreed that it should take time to consider the Society’s strategy document, specifically to determine whether it was compatible with the...
