DIPLOMA IN DESIGN ARCHITECTURE SPECIALISATION
CHARLOTTE LOH JIA YING
I am a final year student currently studying design, specialising in architecture. I have always taken in interest in how of spaces interconnect with each other, how elements are ordered and located, and balancing these various factors into one cohesive architectural whole. This ability to orchestrate how people see, feel, or experience the harmony of a space, hence inspired me to pursue this path of education!
I am a confident and passionate individual who strives to achieve the best. Being a perfectionist, I aim for the highest level of competence and take pride in all my work.

REVLIGHT
Year: 2020
Type: Product Design
Revlight is a modular product which you can adjust to your liking. Regardless of space constraint, users are able to purchase a suitable mix of units to fit their space.
Each unit is mounted onto a nail and the wiring is hidden from view on the back of each unit. They are exposed such that repairs are convenient
The two different units can be joined, leaving users free to be creative with its arrangement.
The amount of light exposed is also controlled by users by playing around with the hinges to open or close its flaps.

EUPHONIC EXTRUSIONS
Year: 2020
Type: Architecture
In this project, an organism was assigned at random and we were tasked to abstract shapes to form modules, which would eventually repeat in a certain sequence to form a quarantine pod . We were to propose an additional program on top of the basic functions for repurposing when isolation was no longer needed.
REPEAT
ASSIGNED FORM : NAUTILUS SHELL
08
My concept mimics the hierachy of larger to smaller spaces through my spatial programming mirroring the shell of a natilus.
The extruded structures vary in size, conveying the message that music swells and increases or decreases in intensity as it flows, reflecting fluidity and character.
I drew inspiration from my own musical background and felt that the act of performing was something that I missed during quarantine.
Hence, these installations allow passersby to look up and watch the musician, which mimics the experience of performing - something that cannot be done during quarantine.

DBS 4D
Year: 2020
Type: UI/UX Design
Award: DBS Bank Award of Commendation
I created a website which teaches DBS employees how to apply design thinking in their work. I analysed the current DBS 4D website and conducted market and user research to better understand our target audience. Some problems that I tried to address were low levels of website awareness, engagement and content application in day to day work.
My group designed a website that utilises case studies to show users how the 4D framework is applied to solve real life problems as they serve as a testament that the framework is truly useful and that it reaps benefits. Our website provides learning material on methodologies and also allows users to experience applying the framework if desired.

MÉNAGE
Year: 2021
Type: Architecture
Prior to developing my design, I analysed my site and was tasked to propose a masterplan for the vicinity.
Our proposal was to include residential buildings, commercial buildings, sports facilities, care centres, as well as communal spaces and parks. This is in hope of designing while being contextually sensitive to the waterfront of the region.

In today’s climate, public housing is made to accomodate relatively small families, causing children of big families to resort to moving out once they start their own families. At Menage, multigenerational and multinuclear families can now stay in close proximity.
Furthermore, with the ongoing pandemic, Work From Home has become the new normal, alongside Home Based Learning. There is a sense of forced togetherness in households, with increased interaction and need for flexibile spaces to fulfil everyone’s needs.

PASSIVE DESIGN STRATEGIES
Green Walls
- Placed on east and west facing walls to reduce heat transfer through walls and reduce the temperature of external walls
Building Orientation
- North-south facing to avoid harsh direct sunlight on the main faces of the building
Natural Ventiliation
- Openings are positioned north and south facing due to prevailing winds to allow increased air flow
- Voids and open coridoors allow prevailing winds to flow through the entire building
