As the count down for Christmas has began what better way to kick off the festive season, with a visit to the Builth Fest Christmas Fayre. On Saturday 23rd November the Strand Hall will open it’s doors to welcome an array of Christmas treats for all the family. Turn to page 4 to find out more.

Monday 25th-26th November will see the 30th anniversary of the Winter Fair.

Two-days packed full of competitions, festivities and Christmas shopping. Read more on page 26.

Christmas Fayre This year’s Christmas Fayre, organised by Builth Fest will once again be held in the magnificent Strand Hall in the centre of Builth Wells on Saturday 23rd November. Starting at 10am, more than forty stalls packed with homemade crafts, cakes, foods, decorations and other delights will cram the hall meaning that no one will be short of festive ideas.

There will be performances from the both Male and Ladies choirs and we will also be treated to a display by the Builth Bell Ringers. There will be some arts and crafts activities for the little ones to enjoy whilst you’re browsing.

Refreshments including soup with a roll, mince pies and mulled wine will be available on the day and of course, no day would be complete without a trip to Santa’s grotto. This year is looking like being our biggest yet and we look forward to welcoming you and sharing the Christmas cheer. Merry Christmas Everyone.

Festive Welcome The festive season will soon be upon us and no-one could be more excited than the team at Caer Beris Manor. The chocolate box hotel lends itself perfectly to this wonderful time of the year.

The Christmas stockings/decorations will be hung by the 3rd week in November, giving plenty of time for guests (and the team) to enjoy the cheer and celebrations.

A host of events will keep all at the Manor busy which include: Party Night 7th December: This party night includes a big festive buffet which is proving to be very popular, with DJ Harry P playing to party goers encouraged to dance the night away with friends and colleagues, at a cost of only £19.95 per ticket.

Afternoon Tea 14th December: An enjoyable Christmas themed afternoon tea, with the Builth Male Voice Choir performing in the oak panelled function room. This pleasant affair is selling fast at the same cost of the Caer Beris usual afternoon tea of £16.

Christmas Day Feast: The big day will soon be upon us, but with the Manor opening their doors to non-residents on the 25th December, an early booking is recommended to secure your place for the 5-course ‘Christmas Day feast’ at £75 per adult and £35 under 14’s. Bookings have already started to come in.

My company supplies and fits Upvc, composite, patio, bi-fold doors and upvc windows. As well as replacement glass, replacement locks and handles we also supply and fit all Pvc external boards and guttering.

Being my own boss is probably the most enjoyable, as well as pushing my business in the right direction and doing things how I want them done.

What inspired you to start your business?

I wanted to do something different and felt the area needed a local business supplying this service. The aim is to offer top quality products with top quality fitting, whilst being competitive on price.

What type of service do you offer?

We offer Fully FENSA registered, 10 year Insurance backed guaranteed service on all our windows and doors, plus the manufacturers guarantee of 10 years on the frames, 5 years on the glass and 1 year on the handles and hinges.

It’s all about the after service as well as the initial service. Also free quotations and you won’t get anyone phoning and hassling you afterwards.

What area do you cover?

Realistically we would travel anywhere the work is.

What do you find the most challenging about your work?

Probably the paper work and the computer (ha ha). Its never ending, I had to get a new computer as the old one was so old it took an hour to start up. But I’ll get there.

How could people benefit from using your services?

Just the quality of service before during and after.

What plans do you have for the future?

Mayor Lights up Builth As the Mayor of Builth Wells, it is a pleasure to be asked to write about what Town Council is organising for the Festive period.

The Christmas Lights committee and team of highly valued volunteers have been working throughout the year and with heightened determination in the last few weeks, preparing existing and new lights ready for the Christmas period.

This year we are working towards having the largest display of Christmas lights that Builth has seen in recent years!

As Christmas is a special time of year especially for the children, Town Council have decided to put on a Santa’s grotto on Friday 13th December at 6pm on ‘The Groe’. Primary school aged children and under will be able to meet Santa and receive a gift for (FREE).

These gifts will be bought from the Mayor’s allowance.

Celebrity farmer Gareth Wyn Jones will be turning on our Christmas tree lights, we will also be joined by Builth Wells Ladies Choir who will be getting us in the festive spirit with Christmas Carols.

Fingers crossed the weather will be kind to us, and everyone can join in with all the festivities and make our Christmas grotto feature a success.

Hopefully we will have a great turnout, and this can be the start of a new Christmas tradition in Builth Wells.

Thank you to all of those who have given their time and helped organise this event.

Ingredients 225g fresh spinach Juice of ½ lemon 4 tbsp fat-free natural fromage frais 1 tbsp chopped fresh tarragon 4 slices wholemeal toast from a small 400g loaf 4 slices ham, visible fat removed 4 poached eggs

1. Place the spinach in a large pan with the lemon juice and cook for 2 minutes until wilted. Drain off any juice and keep warm.

2. Meanwhile, make the sauce. Season the fromage frais with the tarragon and a little salt and black pepper. Heat gently for 1-2 minutes until warm. Don’t boil or the fromage frais will separate.

3. To assemble, place a slice of toast on each plate and cover with a slice of ham. Pile on the spinach and top with a poached egg. Spoon over the sauce and serve immediately.
