Kaleidescope captures the elements of surprise and cultivates different perpective, colours and patterns that is uniquely playful. My portfolio carries the theme of kaleidescope,

spark joy.

I believe in designing spaces for people for ahappier lifestyle and good architecture affects the emotions fo users.

Happy to me means celebrating the spaces, human movement and architectural elements. In this portfolio, the expression of happiness, transitioning into chapeters of curating my architectural journey, hoping it can one day spark joy and entertainment in people. The curation of my architectural work narrates each concept that suits either the site context or user inclusitivity. My architectural work consist of both academic and professional involvement in work projects.

There were many concepts during the self-exploration projects. From duality, to dynamic form making, to subtle designs following the site context, with the contrast of bold wild design ideas. These are some of the surprise that required much research to cater for different projects that was carefully thought of. I am amused by the unlimited ideas that resonates with different projects.

Act of Togetherness

Skyline

Inspired by the river, the act of togetherness in Johor Bahru is where people gathered and interact with each other along the river. The act of togetherness is common to exchange ideas or information that heavily influence the community of Johor Bahru as it was a trading port for pepper and gambir.

The presence of tolerance and acceptance among the community helps strengthen the relationship between the diverse and multiracial communities. With this city lobby, the community can help in exchanging trades among the younger generation of enlightening them the good ol’ days there was once on site by the older community. This vibrancy of the port is no longer active and community spread across the city which brings segregation. This city lobby is aimed to provide a platform for gathering spaces to exchange ideas, talents and bringing people together.

RICH MULTICULTURAL UNNOTICED

GOES

The lack of cultural appreciation on site creates undesirable spaces with homeless people and less pedestrians walking on foot. This increases the safety risk on site as it does not have proper management and development. The gouvernment’s initiative to heighten the spirits of this town also brings communities together on site.

‘City Lobby’, which will engage and re-engage the city’s local population and visiting tourists from other towns or countries. A quality public place and building where its architecture can create great opportunities to build and strengthen the people’s connection. The project addresses earlier studies and researches on the sociocultural issues related to the architecture of Johor Bahru, namely: Ethnicity (segregation of multi-racial community, Demography (segregation based on age and social status).

The idea is based on a ‘Market’ concept where it is a place for meeting and concentration of people. A gathering point where if offers the need of the people in the city but offers opportunities for cultural exchange.

Site Considerations

Ipoh to represent a community sharing group in single parent families support center. Situated at a site closer to the community, this community center represents the single parent families to provide a platform for them to interact and have a support group to help those in need. calls for the design within an urban park environment.

With a few aspects from the shophouses and historical background of Ipoh, there are a few elements that was considered during the ideation process

DIAGRAMMATIC APPROACH Vertical versus horizontal circulation

While the facade provides the wide view towards the site, it also helps to provide ventilation into the building where it is shaded at the exterior facade to bring in air into the spaces of the building.

The visitor centre is designed to encourage walkability inside the building. Horizontal circulation is arranged following the linear arrangement of spatial organisation.

Stairs and lift helps to bring visitors to the floor above in between or interstitial spaces.

Dependable on the community This project calls for the design in an urban park environment and to consider communityrelated programmes that could tackle many sensitive and personal issues. This project is to be able to tackle issues on site and the sustainability of community centre in the long run.

Landscape

The prominent terracotta facade of the building connects the three axes that are segregated into a whole. The screenings function to screen out the unpleasant views then acts as a partition on the outside. This is to block and avoid disturbance to both commercial activities and residents on site.

With many different species of trees on site , the building also integrates with the landscape to include into the design of the building. The open rooftop introduces a natural shading from the large foliage of the canopy of the trees. The river is also considered to allow the building to fit right beside the river

EX + CITE Owned by a pair of retired couple whose husband is an active hiking and climbing member along with his adventurous wife, the weekend lodging serves the purpose of creating a double volume space with prominent structural walls to fit the intention of rock climbing in the lodge. Incorporating light weight steel structures to lift up the structural column.

SITE KL ECO FOREST PARK This reserved forest is located in the Kuala Lumpur city center at Bukit Nanas. It is a strategic location for tourists to visit the rainforest in the city center. This park is built with amenities and properly paved. As it sits beside the KL Tower, it attracts more outsiders to visit the place, to experience nature and a relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city lifestyle.

URBAN TYPOLOGIES Peri-urbanization The site of Kajang experiences dispersive growth and many fragments are developed due to commercial and residential development that creates a chaotic scene with congestion and clutter in the site today

Church of Immaculate Conception Methods of Documentation and Measured Drawings This module is to understand the principles of builing preservation and conservation by recording it in three documentation methods; measured drawings, written documentation and photographic documentation.

A Temporary Shelter

The Hermit Crab Shelter Concept of Ambivert by the personality of our user and biomimicry of a hermit crab. Ambivert shows the enclosure and exposure of the user’s behaviour. It studies on the anthropometry and ergonomics relate to the space and for. This shelter uses bamboo and bubble wraps using scout knots using strings.

A TEMPORARY SHELTER

A group work of 8 members to produce a temporary shelter at a selected site with specific function that suits a targeted user. We need to produce a 1:1 scale structure from a selection of materials. Finally it will be moved to our site at Port Dickson beach. We will assemble the structure there and present it on the spot.

Residential Yacht ROLE: This residential yacht consist of 289 metre vessel contains 117 private residences and a 500 square metre inflatable marina at the stern of the vessel, which features a number of foldout platforms. The interior design of the luxury residences is described as “homely, comfortable, smart casual and contemporary”. There are plenty of options for residents to customise their apartments to their tastes, choosing from a range of premium features, such as walk-in wine cellars, cheese rooms, humidors, safe rooms, private gyms, saunas and steam rooms.

Jeju Island Hotel & Villas Professional Project

Jeju Island project ROLE: Participaed in concept design and presesntation to client using Revit software and coordinated with the team with BIM system. I continued to assist in Preliminary Design and Design Documentation 1 stage, with requires technical and structural sysyems to be included. This project is a 9.1 hectares site located 390m-400m above sea level, commands a magnificent South view to the sea. The design calls for comtemporary Jeju culture and design elements.

Northwestern Coast, Saudi Arabia Professional Project

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This island project calls for masterplanning of hotel blocks, villas, palace, spa, wellness centre, performing arts center and a range of different facilities.

The island are zoned into three zones: THe Island Resort 1 (North Neighbourhood), The Island Resort 2 Country Club and the Polo Estate Resort (Central Neighbourhood) and the Island Resort 3 (South Neighbourhood)

Island Resort 2 Country Club and the Polo Estate Resort (Central Neighbourhood) PROJECT INVOLVED: Spa Pavilion ROLE: 3D Modelling and Design Documentation of Spa,Wellness Center and Spa Treatment Pavilion. I have also done the post poduction of the renders that are involved in the Resort 2 buildings. I was also involved in photoshop of the realistic render of masterplan of Resort 2 for presentation.

Island Resort 2 Country Club and the Polo Estate Resort (Central Neighbourhood) ROLE: Spa and Wellness Center consist of the hammam and spa treatment to cater for visitor’s ultimate comfort experience. I was involved in the 3D modelling and design documentation of the spa. The spa is located next to the country club and palace and surrounded with lush nature and landscaping. I have also been involved in detailing of the interior layout and landscape design along with interior designers and 3D post production team.

PERSONAL| 2021

Individual pods of Malaysian-inspired design. Cultivating the contemporary blend of culture and backgrounds of different races in Malaysia, shows the diversified use of colours and play of rhythm and pattern. The design shows the essence of a tropical setting with vernacular details of a Malay kampung house on the window. Palm trees standing tall up towards clear tropical weather. It narrates the chaotic scene of the expanding city of Kuala Lumpur trying to blend the modern and traditional architectural elements to preserve the nation’s culture. This leads to gentrification issues and many urban skylines that differ from one another. Should buildings stand out or remain mediocre? What can be a good representation of modern vernacular architecture?

Endless Illustrates the constant moving motion of the ever-changing and evolving activities of the community, represented using stairs.
