Yuncken Freeman's BHP House, at 140 William St on the corner of Bourke Street in Melbourne's CBD was finished in 1972. It was A landmark tall building in terms of its structural system and its use of steel for the building skin and its structure. The enormous amount of steel employed make this building something that could not be built again today. As part of the analysis of the buildings facade construction there is also included a comparison with the Chicago Civic Centre, finished in 1965 and arguably the inspiration for BHP House's lost formwork composite columns and beams.
