Our state made great progress this legislative session. Working collaboratively for more than three years to fund roads improvements, our legislators let businesses and residents know that they were heard.

Safe, efficient and effective infrastructure will ensure that our economies prosper now and in the future. The Charleston Metro Chamber thanks the hundreds of business leaders who have worked with us tirelessly to share their voices with our leaders at the State House. We also express our thanks to the leadership of the South Carolina House and Senate for successfully pushing this issue through and to the members of our Tri-county legislative delegation who almost unanimously supported the measure and helped to override the Governor’s veto of the bill.

• New one-time $250 out-of-state transfer fee (active

• Institutes $120 fee on electric vehicles and $60 fee on hybrid vehicles • New Infrastructure Maintenance Fee upon purchase of a motor vehicle, capped at $500

• Tax rebate for preventive maintenance, capped at $114 million, sunsets after seven years • Adds one at-large seat to the SCDOT commission appointed by the Governor • Commissioners in the congressional districts to be appointed by the Governor and approved by the delegation

• Earned income tax credit, two wage earner credit, increased tuition tax credit • Increases biennial vehicle registration fees by $16 • Decreases manufacturing property tax assessment ratio from 10.5% to 9% • Makes donor CTC (County Transportation Committee)

50 participants graduated from the 43rd class of Leadership Charleston in June. Graduates join a group of more than 2,000 prestigious alumni.

Trip Highlights:

Volkswagen Academy Training Center Educates high school students on Volkswagen’s campus four days a week, earning 40 credit hours toward an associate degree in Mechatronics upon graduation. Several attendees are exploring how to apply the Academy model to our community.

Lamp Post Group Venture incubator that provides both capital and mentorship to growing startups. Also toured a recently renovated property, the Tomorrow Building, which is providing micro unit co-living space in the innovation district.

Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers Glynco

Houses 10 agencies under one roof. RTMC demonstrated the importance of focusing on consistency in traffic management.

Firsthand look at how federal law enforcement is trained, including virtual gun range, training city and intermodal facility.

The Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) is awarding Monet McCarus a 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award for the Million Dollar Circle, given to individuals who have achieved sales of more than $1 million in chamber memberships throughout their careers.

Each year, ACCE holds a national sales competition with chambers grouped by their budget size, with the Charleston Metro Chamber being in the top tier group. Justin Lee finished 14th nationally in our group with $114,697 over that 12 month period.
