THE NEWS IS FULL OF COUNCILS ANNOUNCING HUGE JOB LOSSES AND SERVICE CUTS. Your Conservative Council has frozen the Council Tax and protected services.

RESIDENTS CAN DRAW UPON EXPERIENCE WHEN THEY GO TO THE POLLS IN MAY. Major local boundary changes means some new faces in the Tory line-up but with experience being the theme.

Councillors deliver on value for money pledge

COUNCIL TAX FREEZE IN 2011 and probably 2012 as well

Demolition teams have moved in to knock down a block of semi-detached houses built without consent in Weaverham. Conservative run Cheshire West and Chester Council have taken the drastic action following a five-year legal battle over the properties at 14-16 Village Close. The original Developer repeatedly failed to comply with an order to pull down the block, constructed in 2006, after it was built too close to neighbouring properties and in defiance of approved plans. They unsuccessfully appealed a planning enforcement notice, failed in a legal challenge in the courts and unsuccessfully appealing a conviction for not removing the building. The company got into financial difficulties and the site passed into the control of receivers who pledged to remove the houses. But after months passed with no action, the Council, in response to community concern, resolved to carry out the demolition. Local Cllr Alan McKie, said: “Following a long and costly series of challenges by the original developer, the Council has exercised its default powers. Our residents and neighbours in Weaverham have been more than patient with the developer and more recently the receivers, who were both given ample time to comply with the enforcement notice.” Cllrs Ralph Oultram and Lynn Riley, agreed, Lynn said “Local residents have put up with this situation for too long. The Council is not prepared to tolerate this blatant disregard of planning requirements any longer. Planning controls are in place to protect the local environment and the public and we will not allow them to be ignored.”

CONSERVATIVE CONTACTS until boundary changes in May the current Weaver Councillors are; Ralph Outram Alan McKie Lynn Riley 01606 853543 01928 724960 01928 734938 Due to Boundary changes started by the previous Labour Government, the current Weaver ward is changing into 3 new wards: Weaver & Cuddington, Kingsley and Gowy. Elections for these new wards will take place in May.

Cllrs Grimshaw, McKie, Johnson and Oultram announce the good news

News that your local Council is to freeze the 2011 Council Tax has been welcomed across the borough. A Mr John Simcock wrote to the local press and said, “I understand why we are in the economic climate and understand that we have to fight the national deficit but I feared a 5% hike in the tax like we seemed to have every year under Labour. A freeze is both welcome and needed.” Cllr Ralph Oultram said, “We promised to cut waste and that is what we have done.” So how has this been achieved without cutting frontline services. Councillor John Grimshaw added, “We have saved over £46 million by cutting waste. The move away from County Hall has also saved millions. The Council Tax was a stealth tax under the old Labour Government. It doubled over ten years. We first pegged it below inflation leading to this freeze.”

O% Asked about cutting waste Cllr Eleanor Johnson tells of a mobile phone contract the Conservatives inherited. “We were paying £175,000 a year for phones we didn t have. Of course we put an end to that.” The Council Tax freeze applies to the charge set by the local council and not the Police, Fire and Parish/Town precepts.
