ART & MUSIC

Over the last several years, I have made relationships with several small music producers and have worked with them to create cover art. What I find most interesting about these projects is how they exemplify the different ways visual art and music relate to and influence each other. I was given complete freedom to design what I wanted for Image 1 and was inspired by listening to the album. Whereas in Image 2, I had made the art first and the musician was inspired by and made a song based around the piece. Then there's examples like Image 3, where the musician had a very clear concept in mind and my job was to simply make that idea a visual reality. For Image 4, the musician had a vague

concept in mind for the cover art, so my job was to interpret and develop that concept into a a fully fleshed out design. I have also worked on logo design as seen in the examples below. The top row shows the evolution of the logo as early concepts and back and fourth conversations with the musician develop into the fully fleshed out design shown beneath. I believe this logo is a good example of my attention to detail. I heavily researched the concept of 'Dantian' and its history in order to come up with the best design I could. The 7 rainbow orbs on top represent the 7 chakras, while the 3 green orbs represent the 3 localized seas of chi within the body, also known as 'Dantians.' In addition to the logo design, I also helped the artist with marketing such as developing business cards, profile pictures for social media, and sticker designs like the ones below.

ART & COMMUNITY

I have always been interested in the idea of art and collaboration. The first example shown is my house's beer die table senior year of college. I wanted the whole house to contribute to the project, but since none of them are visual artists, I had to come up with a way to allow them to contribute given their skillsets. So, I designed and painted a geometric mandala-like base so everyone could just color within the lines. After graduation, I dismantled the table so I could keep the tabletop as an art piece: it now greatly aged and full of memories. In the second

example, I took a 4x6 sheet of plywood and cut/painted it to look like a giant piece of notebook paper. My objective was to make a non-imposing medium anyone could doodle on. I interviewed everyone who participated to ask why they drew what they did and how often they draw. I found for many of them this was the first time they had drawn anything in years. Art also has the ability to create spaces that allow and encourage self-expression. A few of my friends and I decided we wanted to create a structure that we could host small intimate art/music events in. With a very limited budget, we were able to design and construct a geometrical dome structure over the span of about 4 months. With other friends helping contribute to adding decorations, we were able to create a lively, inclusive, and mobile space. I hope to take this idea to greater heights in the future.

[IN]ARCH

Over this last summer, I attended the [IN]ARCH program at UC Berkeley to further develop first assignement, we had to take two simple rectilinear solids abstract them by different processes. What resulted is 4 solid from 2 simple rectilinear solids. We were also given the freedom to so I used color to highlight different relationships between my two through the negative space of one half to the other.

[IN]ARCH PART 2

For our second assignment, we had to take our 4 solids and combine them back into 2 objects. I wanted to experiment with angles and try to create objects that look unique from every angle and that create different moments of visual interest. I believe Union Object 1 captures this best: looking almost rectilinear from some angles and completely abstracted from others. I also experimented again with color: using it to draw a relationship through different faces to create the illusion of one face from one specific angle.

[IN]ARCH PART 3

The final assignment for the [IN]ARCH program was to take our two objects from the last assignment and combine them to create a folly that would be theoretically constructed somewhere on the UC Berkeley campus. We also had the additional constraints of having to fit our folly within a volumetric bounding box and to have a functioning bathroom. One aspect of UC Berkeley I noticed while I was there was the many different ways to access and move throughout the campus, and the many different vantages from outside to look in

and from inside to look back out onto the rest of campus, Berkeley, and the greater San Francisco area. I aimed to explore these concepts with my folly. This project is all about movement and the ways you look into the folly and back out at the campus. That is why I created the base I have shown in my rendering: to allow one to fully access this folly from any vantage. I also continued to explore a concept I explroed in my previous objects in creating an object that looks different from every angle and creates different moments of tension and visual interest. want to note that all the supplemental drawings

MISC. ART

These last pages show some of the miscellaneous works of art I have created over the years that I believe help showcase my range of artistic experimentation and curiosity. This first page shows some of the many drawings, paintings, and digital art that I have made for various different classes at UCSB and in my free time.

I also have been making pottery and sculptures for a few years now and have some of my work displayed here. I have always liked to do arts and crafts projects as well such as making custom birthday/holiday cards for all my family and friends since I was a kid. As examples, I have shown some custom bookmarks I made, two pendants I custom designed for my grandparents, one of the festival 'totems' I have constructed , and some Vans shoes I hand drew on.
