Welcome to Domus Zamittello, Valletta’s leading luxury boutique hotel. You are residing in a family property, dating from the 17th century. The palazzo was originally named Casa Pensa, and the knights of the Order used the same stairs and path to the ones you walked on.

Today, after many years of work and refurbishment, the hotel is an award-winning, luxury boutique hotel. We pride ourselves on offering the best service to our guests. Welcome

A Glittering Tribute To Generations Past

Built around 1580 during the construction of Valletta, the palazzo became the residence of the Knights of the Langue D’Italie in c. 1633. In 1805, it passed on to the family of the present owner, Count Alfred Manduca. Here is a hint of its incredible history.

This elegant 17th Century home had originally been part of the earlier estate of the Auberge D’Italie, one of the langues of the Order of St John. Recent research dates the palazzo back to 1633, when it was used by various knights of Italian descent, and was then known as Casa Pensa. In 1805, after the departure of the Knights of St. John from Malta, the British Governor granted ownership of the palazzo to Sir Giuseppe Nicola Zamitt, for services to the Crown. In recent years, the present Count of Mont’Alto, a descendant of Sir Giuseppe Nicola Zamitt after whom the palazzo is now named, embarked on

a project to enlarge it and restore the entire property to its former glory.

Sir Zamitt was a Superior Judge of the Law Court as well as a Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George. Besides being an acclaimed legislator and man of letters, he was also Pro-Secretary to Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the chief secretary to Sir Alexander Ball, Malta’s first Civil Commissioner. Knighted in 1818, Sir Giuseppe Zamitt was held in high regard by Sir Thomas Maitland, who at Zamitt’s death commissioned a monument to honour him which still

stands in the Upper Barakka Gardens, Valletta. This fine gentleman is one of the very few Maltese gentry to be interred in St. John’s Co-Cathedral amongst the Knights and Grandmasters of The Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

Among his other achievements, Sir Giuseppe Zamitt commissioned the construction of the magical Castello Zamittello, an enchanting castle in its own grounds on the outskirts of the quaint village of Mgarr. He was married with one daughter Maria Theresa, who married the third Baron of Buleben and whose lineage later merged through marriage in 1889 with the Count of Mont’Alto family. The palazzo has remained in the family until this present day.

Rooms are equipped with international plugs and USB wall chargers. The voltage in Malta is 230 volts, 50HZ. Electric razor sockets are available in the bathroomthey have voltages of 230 and 110.

AIR CONDITIONING & CENTRAL HEATING

Your room is equipped with an air conditioning and an underfloor heating system. The temperature in your room may be controlled with the control panel located on the wall.

PETS

The policy of the hotel management is to prohibit the admission of pets for health and safety reasons, with the exception of guide dogs.

LUGGAGE

Porters are available to assist you. Please use this service for storing your bags and cases if necessary. Please contact the Reception for luggage pick-up and storage.

CREDIT CARDS

We accept all major credit cards. All credit arrangements must be clearly stated upon registration. Guests wishing to charge their accounts to others than themselves, must have this arranged prior to arrival. Kindly note that personal cheques cannot be honoured. The hotel will seek pre-authorisation on all credit card payments. A credit limit is established for all our guests on arrival. Should this limit be exceeded during your stay, we will require further pre-authorisation, which can be taken at the hotel’s discretion.

If you are feeling unwell and need medical assistance, please contact the Reception desk. Kindly note there is a call out charge for doctors’ services.

Our Housekeeping team will be pleased to provide you with whatever you may need to make your stay more comfortable. Kindly contact the Reception desk if you have a request.

• Bathrobes, slippers, extra pillows, coat hangers and extra blankets are all found in the wardrobe, more can be provided upon request. Bathrobes are available to purchase for Є80. If this is of interest, kindly contact Reception for availability.

• Laundry and dry cleaning - you will find appropriate forms and information in your wardrobe.

• Our team will also offer Turndown service daily until 20:00hrs. Should you have a preferred time for this service, please contact the Reception desk team.

OUR COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT

All of us are both guests of our planet and caretakers of the environment. At Domus Zamittello, we invite you to join your fellow guests in conserving water and reducing the use of harmful chemicals by choosing not to have your towels changed daily. Should you accept our invitation, please rehang your towels on the rail. By leaving your towels on the floor, you will indicate that you wish to receive fresh towel.

For your convenience, an iron & ironing board are available in all rooms. Should you require a handheld steamer, kindly contact reception who can arrange for one to be brought to your room.

If you would like to have your room cleaned at a specific time, please call the Reception desk.

If you prefer not to be disturbed, please hang the “Privacy Request” sign on the door.

OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION & SERVICES

• ICE: Should you require ice in your room, kindly contact our Front Desk team.

• SMOKING: The hotel is entirely a non-smoking area. If you desire to smoke, we invite you to do so on our Terrace, on level 3.

• WHEELCHAIR: We have a guest room which is wheelchair accessible. If you would like this room, please contact the reception desk; this is subject to availability. Our team can make arrangements for wheelchair delivery, subject to availability.

• SHOE CLEANING: A shoe cleaning set is available in the wardrobe. Should you wish to have your shoes cleaned, please contact the Reception desk team so that we can arrange pick-up and delivery from and to your room.

• CHECK-OUT: Check-out time is 11.00am. Should you wish to store your luggage, our Reception will be available to assist you. If you wish to extend your stay, please contact the Reception desk team.

• COMPLIMENTARY BEVERAGES: We offer a bottle of Local Still or Sparkling Water, a selection of teas and coffees on a complimentary basis. These are replenished daily.

MINI BAR

The minibar offers a range of snacks, soft drinks & alcoholic beverages. Payment for consumption is at check out. Please contact the Reception Desk if the minibar does not stock what you need. BREAKFAST

We offer an A la Carte Breakfast Menu and your choice is prepared and served to order order, in Mezzodi restaurant on the ground floor. Should you have any dietary requirements or allergies, kindly ensure this is communicated to the hotel management for the neccessary arrangements to be made.

For those guests who have not booked breakfast as part of their accomodation package, a charge of €17.50 per person, per sitting, will be added to your room bill.

Your Safety

HOTEL EMERGENCY NUMBER: 0

EMERGENCY EXITS

We have taken every precaution to ensure your comfort and safety. However, in the unlikely event of an emergency due to a fire, it is best for everyone in the building to be familiar with basic life safety recommendations. Emergency Exits are clearly marked on each floor, however, in the event of thick smoke, they may be difficult to see. Therefore, we ask you to respect the following points:

• Check the fire extinguishers / hoses and alarm activators in the corridor of your floor.

• Count the number of doorways between your room and at least two exits.

• Check their exact position.

• Do you have to turn any corner? Are they left or right turns?

• Check the position of the nearest fire alarm.

• Check the controls of your room air-conditioning unit. Learn how to switch it off.

• Leave your key in a conspicuous place of your room. Take it with you if you leave the room. You may have to return in an emergency.

• Do not use elevators.

A fire/emergency evacuation drill can be found on the back of your bedroom door.

IF YOU DISCOVER A FIRE

In the case of fire or any other emergency, please contact the Reception (Dial 0).

• Please state your name, location and nature of the fire.

• Activate the nearest fire alarm.

If possible, leave the building by following the emergency exit signs which will lead you to the closest exit.

Should you be unable to leave your room, close all the doors to protect you from the fire. Place dampened linen at the bottom of the doors and on the air vents.

IF A FIRE STARTS IN YOUR BEDROOM

• Stay Calm.

• Turn off the air conditioning

• Leave the room.

• Take the key with you.

• Do not stop to take any other possessions.

• Close the door behind you to inhibit the spread of fire.

• Activate the nearest fire alarm.

• Walk to the nearest emergency exit and leave the building.

• Hold the handrail while walking down the stairs.

• Close the door behind you to prevent the spread of fire into the stairway.

• Do not use the elevator.

IF THERE IS SMOKE IN THE CORRIDOR

• Stay calm. Stay as low to the ground as possible.

• Crawl close to the walls. Count the doorways to the exit.

IF YOU SMELL SMOKE WHILE IN YOUR ROOM

• Stay calm.

• Turn off the air conditioning.

• Feel the door.

IF THE DOOR IS COOL: LEAVE YOUR ROOM

• Leave your room. Take your key with you.

• Do not stop to take any other possessions.

• Close the door behind you to inhibit the spread of fire.

• Activate the nearest fire alarm.

EVACUATION UPON SOUND OF THE ALARM

If there is a need to evacuate the building, the alarm will sound

YOU MUST LEAVE THE HOTEL IMMEDIATELY USING THE NEAREST FIRE EXIT. DO NOT USE THE ELEVATORS.

On leaving the building, please proceed going to Teatru Rjal, where the hotel management will conduct a headcount.

IF YOU ARE OBLIGED TO STAY IN YOUR ROOM

• Stay calm.

• Turn off the air conditioning.

• Feel the door.

IF THE DOOR IS HOT, STAY IN YOUR ROOM

• Dial the Emergency number on any telephone (0) and report your name, location, and nature of the problem.

• Stuff wet towels and sheets around door seals and air vents.

• Use the waste basket to bail water from the wash hand basin if necessary.

• Remove drapes from the windows.

IF SMOKE STILL COMES INTO YOUR ROOM

• Create a tent over your head with a wet blanket

• Look out of the window. If smoke is not rising up from a lower floor, open the window. Do not break the window unless the room is smoke filled and you cannot open it. You may have to close it again.

IF YOU REQUIRE SPECIAL ASSISTANCE

If you are physically disabled, please inform the hotel reception staff upon check in or as soon as possible thereafter.

REMEMBER

Most fatal accidents occur due to inhaling smoke and poisonous gases and not from burns.

• Always stay low on the ground in case of smoke.

• Do not use the elevator.

IT MAY NEVER HAPPEN TO YOU

You may never need to follow this advice, but always be vigilant. It is vital to check the position of the emergency exits and the recommended emergency procedures when entering a building. The hotel fire alarm system is checked for faults once a week. You will also hear, at times, the evacuation sounders. In such instances, we shall pre-advise all our guests by means of notifications in the lobby and breakfast area. The maximum testing time is five minutes and if the sounders can be heard beyond the five-minute mark, please evacuate the building via the closest fire exit.

YOUR SECURITY

Most locks are equipped with an additional security latch. This latch is activated from inside your room. We advise you to always use this latch when in your room, especially at night.

YOUR VALUABLES

The hotel declines all responsibility for any valuables left in your bedroom or the safe within the room.
