WEST HAVEN—As clubs and organizations are getting started up for the year, event programming is starting to get into full swing; students all over campus were able to leave their dorms last week to enjoy a week full of wellprogrammed events. Monday started it off with the Office of Residential Life’s “Munchies on Mondays,” a program which is hosted by the office the first Monday of every month. The program allows any student to come in and enjoy tasty, seasonal foods. Students this week were able to enjoy caramel apples, a staple for any college student during the fall. Going on at the same time was the giant games event in the quad. Stu-

a long way since students went home for the summer. Only a couple more months remain until the center is completed. With a new building comes a new department, and thus a new director. Mike Schneider is the director of new Department of Campus Recreation. Not only is he in charge of the
Rec Center, but Director Schneider will run the intramural sports programs as well. In an interview with Director Schneider, it was revealed the Recreation Center will be open as early as December. However, the grand opening of the center will not be until the spring semester, to make sure all the kinks have been worked out. The center will be open every day, but hours will vary depending on the day. From Monday to Thursday, the center will be open
from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. On Fridays, it will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. On Saturdays, it will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will also be open on Sundays from noon to 10 p.m. The Rec Center’s general recreation activities will be available throughout the center’s operating hours. There are two fitness rooms which contain cardio equipment, free weights, and circuit training equipment. Some machines will have personal viewing screens attached to them.
Besides the fitness rooms, the Rec Center has space for many other activities. There is a multi-activity court, multipurpose studios, and basketball/volleyball courts. The multi-purpose studios will house a variety of group exercise programs, like yoga, Pilates, spinning and body pump. A list of the offered classes will be sent out during the Spring Semester. Intramurals is now also controlled by the new DeSee RECREATION page 4
