Wellness Week upgrades to Wellness Month Staff Writers

In response to the popularity of previous years’ Wellness Week in March, as well as student responses on climate surveys, the Associated Student Body (ASB) decided to coin March “Wellness Month” and implement weekly Friday wellness tutorials throughout the spring semester. The results of the climate survey—a survey taken by students, staff and parents of the school—indicated that the majority of students felt an alarming amount of academic pressure and stress due to their rigorous courses. Although academic counselors advise students not to take more than three Advanced

Placement (AP), accelerated or honors classes at a time, students continue to exceed that limit, which leads to additional stress. “The school has a very stressful environment. Students are focusing more on APs and academics and less on school spirit and other non-academicrelated activities, which leads to an increase in mental health issues, not just in the school, but around the world. We decided ASB should do our part in addressing this global issue by providing wellness sessions for students,” Senior Sonia Savur, ASB President, said. Savur recalls that the school initiated wellness events in 2018. As the main organizer behind Wellness Month and the wellness tutorial sessions, she emailed the staff members a list of possible tutorial sessions to offer. Staff members can request to host those sessions or suggest a new idea. From going on a nature walk with Robin Wa l l a c e , Science
