People for

CHANNAHON PARKS FOUNDATION

The People for Channahon Parks (PFCP) Foundation was formed in 2009. A 501(c)3 not for profit organization, PFCP solicits support for the Channahon Park District through volunteerism, gifts and grants, memberships, and planned giving opportunities. Under a mission statement of “providing opportunities for the preservation of open space and the development of recreational opportunities within the Channahon Park District”, PFCP is an important asset to expanding the quality of life the area enjoys. The Foundation Board of Trustees includes President Michael F. Rittof; Vice President Scott Slocum; Secretary Charles Anfield; and Trustees Joanne Carnagio, John Cotter, Jane Devine, Rick Hofer, David Landahl, Ronald D. Lehman, Raymond McSteen, Tim Rissman, David Rumsey and Jeff White. Honorary Trustees are George Barr and George A. McCoy. The Foundation is working with the Park District to raise funds and develop the district’s newest park - Arroyo Trails, A Discovery Woodlands. It is expected that the unique project will attract youth, families, schools, scouts, camps and others. Preliminary features include trails, an outdoor classroom, interpretive stations, a shelter with

To receive these certifications, staff must meet specific criteria relative to education and work experience. Continuing education is also necessary to maintain certification.


Special Events Santa’s Mailbox

Santa’s elves will install a mailbox at Arrowhead Community Center December 1-10. Santa has informed the park district that he will write back to all children that put a letter into this mailbox. His only request is that all children include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Breakfast with Santa at Heritage Bluffs

All ages welcome Enjoy a buffet style breakfast with Santa including pancakes, sausage, breakfast potatoes, eggs and French toast sticks. Come join the holiday fun get a picture with Santa and do a holiday craft to take home. There are two seatings (9am and 11am) for this event. Call 815-521-2499 to reserve your seats. Candy Bar Bingo

Do you and your kids have a bad case of cabin fever? Are you looking for a fun night out with the family? Then join us for our third annual Candy Bar Bingo Night at Skateland. We will play 10 rounds of bingo and open the concession stand if you would like to purchase pizza, drinks, or other snacks. Pre-registration is not required for this event, but highly recommended! Santa’s Skating Party

Santa is coming to Channahon and is throwing a party to celebrate. The elves are picking all their favorite Christmas carols to skate to, Santa is ready to take down your wish list, and Mrs. Claus will have cookies ready to decorate. Winter Wonderland - FREE!

Start the winter season with us. Back by popular demand - live reindeer! You and your family will have the opportunity to pet and get a photo with the real reindeer. A roving juggler will entertain you from 1011:30am. During this event you will also experience carolers, horse drawn carriage rides, a candy cane scramble and more. Candy cane scramble will take place at 11 AM. You will also enjoy a nice hot cup of chocolate, decorate sugar cookies and make a winter wonderland craft. Bring your cameras! Ages 3-12 years with adult Tonight will be a night to remember for a long time. Little girls will enjoy an evening not only with their dates but with different princesses! The event includes dinner, dancing, and a special keepsake for each girl. There will be a photographer available with picture packages to purchase for an additional cost. Egg hunts aren’t just for kids! Bring your dog to the annual egg hunt. There will be plenty of plastic eggs stuffed with dog treats that your canine can chow down on. Spring Clean the I&M Canal Trail - FREE!

All Ages Welcome We are looking for groups to commit to help keep your I&M Canal Trail beautiful. Before the trees, plants and flowers bloom; before the hikers and bikers take to the path, we need your help to clean it up. Join in the fun as volunteer groups come together to beautify the canal. This is a great opportunity for scout groups, social organizations, churches and for you to give back to the community. Grab your family and friends and head out to the trail and be part of a great day. All groups will be assigned a section of the I&M Canal. Sections could be .5 – 1 mile in length. You don’t have to be Irish to enjoy St. Paddy’s Day! Come out and join in the fun at the first annual Heritage Bluffs St. Patrick’s Day 2-Person Golf Scramble. Tee times for this event will begin at 10:00 am. Lunch at the turn and prizes are included in the fee of $55 per person. Come start out the 2017 golf season with us! Come join us for the 2017 Spring Fling Golf Scramble! This is a 4 person scramble event which will be open to the first 32 teams that register. The “50 Forward” advertises all current trips, programs, services and activities geared toward active adults and senior citizens which are offered by the Channahon Park District. We are teaming up with Fancy Free Holidays to offer another overnight trip! Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of JFK’s birth with a visit to the family’s favorite places of Hyannis and Cape Cod. After the Bell

2016-2017 School Year

Grades K-4th After the Bell is an after school program which provides the perfect inbetween location for kids once they leave school and before they go home. The program follows the Channahon District 17 school calendar. Busses provided by the District will transport students directly to the After the Bell location. If your child does not attend Channahon Schools, transportation will need to be provided. At After the Bell children will have the chance to have an afternoon snack and drink, have time to work on their homework and end the day with fun activities before they are picked up. Activities will vary depending on the day. Throughout the week, there are different activities planned for the participants. The program directors and staff are all CPR and first-aid certified, and most importantly full of fun energy! Everyone is welcome to sign up for the year! You are able to pay in full or have a monthly charge on an EFT. Otherwise you can pay daily for your child to attend. Friday at noon of the week prior is the deadline for daily registration.*If you register after the deadline, there is a $5.00 late fee. Don’t wait any longer, sign your child up today! Co-Ed Youth Spring Soccer

Ages 4-14 years (age as of April 23, 2017) The league is designed for participants to utilize fundamental skills of soccer in game situations. Records will not be kept and winning and losing are not the nature of the game. Each team will be directed by one or two coaches who will provide instruction on soccer fundamentals in a positive and fun environment. Teams will have either one or two practices a week. Practices begin the week of April 10 and one game every Saturday, starting April 22. Practices will be held at various parks around the park district area. All games will be played at Central Park located off Rt. 6 behind Arrowhead Community Center and Tomahawk Aquatic Center. Girls Spring Soccer League

Ice Skating Classes

In cooperation with the Joliet Park District, the Channahon Park District is able to offer our residents a special fee for all ice skating lessons at Inwood Ice Arena. The fee is equivalent to Joliet’s resident rate, plus a $2 per class, non-refundable administrative fee. From beginner to advanced, there are lessons for every level of skater, and not just for figure skaters. These lessons are valuable to inline skaters and hockey players as well. Teen Zone After-School Program 2016-2017 School Year

Grades 5th-8th Teen Zone is an after school program for 5th-8th grade students which provides the perfect in between location for kids once they get out of school before going home. At Teen Zone we provide a fun and safe environment for tweens to get their homework done, have a snack and drink, and participate in fun activities before being picked up. Activities will vary depending on the day but will include games, outdoor and group activities, and access to the Heritage Crossing Field House gym. Teen Zone follows the District 17 school calendar and busses will transport students directly to the Teen Zone location. If your child does not attend Channahon schools, transportation to Teen Zone must be provided. All staff are certified in first aid and CPR. Everyone is welcome to sign up for the year which can be paid in full or charged monthly on an EFT or pay daily for their child to attend. Permanent Court Procedures

Permanent court time guarantees your playing time each week and represents a 15% discount off court costs. The individual who is reserving the permanent court time must be present to play during that reserved time. The fee for the permanent court time is based on two players; if more than two players are playing an additional fee for the extra player will be charged. Two courts cannot be reserved by the same person at the same time. Present permanent court time holders have first priority between the end of their session and the start of the new session.

Special Recreation of Joliet & Channahon (SRJC)

Special Recreation of Joliet & Channahon (SRJC) is a cooperative extension of the Joliet and Channahon Park Districts, which provides year-round recreation activities for individuals who wish to participate in alternative Park District programs. These programs are designed to help participants who may have physical or mental disabilities, sensory impairments, or any other type of disability, develop leisure skills, independent living skills, and motor skills. In addition to all of these benefits, perhaps the most important aspect of SRJC’s programs is fun! SRJC staff members have experience in therapeutic recreation or related fields. SRJC does provide training sessions for all staff members. We will provide the appropriate staff to participant ratios. Transportation is available for some SRJC programs to residents of Joliet and Channahon, for an additional fee. SRJC Parent’s Club

Each room has a capacity of 30 people depending on the type of room set-up used. Rooms are available 12 months a year. Arrowhead Community Center is a non-smoking facility and alcohol is not permitted. A facility request form must be completed no later than two weeks before the event in order for the reservation to be verified. Rental must be paid in full at time of booking. To receive a full refund, cancellations must be made 7 days prior to the event.

What is Adopt A Flower Bed?

Adopt A Flower Bed is a volunteer activity where area volunteer groups “adopt” a flower bed in a Channahon Park District park. The adoptive group is responsible for planting and maintaining the bed during the spring, summer, and fall.

We provide all the materials you need

The Park District provides all planting materials and tools. Volunteer groups need to provide energy, time, and enthusiasm. This is an ideal service project for all ages, children through seniors!

Pavilion Reservations RESIDENT The Channahon Park District is accepting resident reservations for picnic pavilions at Central and Community Parks beginning Monday, January 9, 2017 for a $25 fee. Payment is required when the reservation is made. Reservations on that day will be accepted from 7:00am to 12:00pm on a WALK-IN ONLY BASIS at the Heritage Crossing Field House with a photo ID and current utility bill. Only one pavilion may be reserved per day. After 12:00pm on January 9, reservations will be accepted in person or by the phone. NONRESIDENT Nonresident reservations will begin at 8:30am Monday, January 23, 2017 for a $100 fee. Payment is required when the reservation is made. Pavilions are not available to nonresidents on the following holiday dates: May 27-29, July 4, Sept 2-4, 2017. ALCOHOL IS ALLOWED AT THE PAVILIONS ONLY WITH A PERMIT. Three Rivers Festival Committee

Channahon’s annual Three Rivers Festival is organized by a group of community volunteers. Two representatives from each of the four sponsoring organizations (Channahon Baseball League, Chanooka Braves, Channahon Lions Club and Channahon Fire Department) are joined by at large representatives. The Village of Channahon and Channahon Park District have non-voting committee memberships. The Festival Committee schedules events, arranges for entertainment and takes care of all aspects of the festival. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is responsible for several area parks: Channahon Access to I & M Canal (815-467-4271); the I & M Canal State Trail (815-942-0796); Goose Lake Prairie State Park (815-942-2899); Heideke Lake (815-942-6352); the Des Plaines Conservation Area (815-423-5326); Mazonia/Braidwood State Fish and Wildlife Area (815-237-0063).

Forest Preserve District of Will County

The Will County Forest Preserve District maintains McKinley Woods Forest Preserve located at the south end of McKinley Woods Road, the Rock Run Rookery on Youngs Rd south of Rt. 6, Lake Chaminwood on Shepley Rd west of I-55, and the Rock Run Preserve on Hollywood Blvd east of Channahon. The McKinley Woods Preserve includes the Four Rivers Environmental Education Center and Kerry Sheridan Grove, accessible from Blackberry Lane. The Channahon Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Channahon Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect participants’ safety. However, participants and parents/guardians registering for recreation programs and activities must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational programs and activities. You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ ward is physically fit and/or skilled for the activities contemplated. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity.

The Channahon Park District is continuously working to provide our residents with the highest quality programs available. Because you should always be satisfied with your program experiences with us, we guarantee our recreation programs. If you are not satisfied after attending two program sessions, we kindly ask you to fill out our Refund Request Form. Include your suggestions, ideas or changes to help us provide the best possible programs. Processing fees are not charged to program refunds under a Satisfaction Guarantee.

You can make a special memory by purchasing a tree or bench to be placed in one of your parks. Mark a birth, anniversary, any of life’s special moments, or remember a family member or friend. A wide variety of trees or a bench made with the use of recycled plastic timbers can be placed in almost any of your parks. WARNING OF RISK Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/program. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities/programs exist. Note: New accounts are defaulted to NONResident until confirmed in person at the Arrowhead Community Center with proof of residency. Some programs may not be available for online registration. Facilities and rentals are not available online.

Financial Assistance Program information available at www.channahonpark.org GENERAL INFORMATION 1. Carefully complete the Channahon Park District registration form on page 50. Registration forms are also available at Arrowhead Community Center, Heritage Crossing Field House or online at www.channahonpark.org. Include all names, ages, course names and numbers, phone numbers and address. Under 18? Waiver must be signed by parent or guardian. Waivers not filled out correctly may not be processed. Only one family per registration form. 2. Payment for all activities must be made at time of registration or registration is not complete. Payments can be made by cash, check or credit card (Visa/Mastercard). Returned checks will result in a $20 fee.

REFUND REQUEST PROCEDURE The Channahon Park District understands that schedules change and things come up that prevent participation in programs that have been registered for. It is our intent to refund your money whenever possible. We ask that you understand that in order to maintain the integrity of our programs that the following guidelines have been developed: 1. Patrons requesting a refund are asked to complete refund request form. Forms are available at Arrowhead Community Center, Heritage Crossing Field House or downloadable on our www. channahonpark.org website from the registration page. 2. All refund requests are subject to approval. Filling out the form does not guarantee a refund.

3. Incomplete registration forms will NOT be processed and may be returned to sender.

3. All refunds are assessed a $5.00 processing fee. The fee is waived if you choose to have a credit put on your account or receive a Park District gift card.

5. The Channahon Park District encourages individuals registering for Fitness Center membership or other strenuous/physical programs to obtain a physician’s approval prior to registering.

MULTIPLE CHILD DISCOUNT Families registering multiple children for Youth Sport Leagues, Ryuku Kempo Karate, After the Bell (monthly or yearly plan) or Day Camp Programs are eligible for the following Multiple Child Discount: 1. 10% off a second child’s registration fee for the same program or activity. 2. 15% off each additional child registered for the same program or activity, after the first two registered.

6. Requests for refunds made after the deadline or after class has started will be considered on an individual basis and are subject to approval. Refunds issued after program start dates will be prorated. Participants will be charged for classes that have taken place, attended or not, based on the date the refund request form was received. 7. No refunds will be granted after the third class meeting with the exception of a medical reason. Refunds for medical reasons must be requested within 10 days following completion of the program or activity and a doctor’s note will be required with the refund request. 8. Refunds will not be issued for the portion of the program fees paid for unrecoverable expense such as contractual instructor fees, tickets, trips, t-shirts, books, and other expense after the program registration/refund deadline.
