I decided to join the "Less Than One" because its guiding philosophy aligns deeply with my personal interests in understanding the relationship between individuals, their built environments, and nature. The studio lead's reference to Joseph Brodsky’s essay, where human existence is explored as incomplete and multifaceted, aligns with my own belief that architecture should embody the complexities of human life. Our environments are never static they evolve with time, culture, and climate, and I am eager to explore how architecture can encompass this belief.

One of the primary reasons for joining this studio is the opportunity to work closely with practicing architects. As both studio leads are engaged in the industry, I believe I will gain invaluable insights into the practical realities of creating sensitive, site-specific architecture. This industry exposure will be critical in helping me navigate the theoretical and practical challenges of designing for a rapidly changing world. Moreover, I am fascinated by how architecture can serve as a medium that connects people with both the collective and the environment. There is rich ground for exploration when it comes to exploring design part-whole relationships whether between building elements, humans and spaces, or urban settings and natural landscapes.

My interest in neuro-architecture aligns well with the studio’s focus on the interplay between individuals and their environments. I am deeply curious about how people experience spaces and how architecture can influence emotions, behavior, and well-being. As societal trends push people to spend more time indoors, I believe it is essential to create spaces that remain connected to nature. Nature, in many ways, is the ultimate architect offering solutions that are sustainable, balanced, and aesthetically enriching. I hope to explore how built environments can mimic nature in form, materiality, and function to create spaces that not only accommodate individuals but also nourish their psychological and emotional well-being.

Another critical reason for choosing this studio is its commitment to addressing climate change and its impact on the human climate niche. I am particularly interested in how we can design environments that encourage sustainable living practices, such as integrating organic food production or fostering self-sufficiency within urban settings. By exploring how buildings and communities can harmonize with their natural surroundings, I hope to contribute to solutions that encourage low-energy use, reuse of materials, and the promotion of biodiversity. These personal interests seamlessly align with our project brief. ‘The great brewery’ situated in dundalk is a building that is dripping in culture and history which will be the perfect opportunity to use adaptive reuse strategies allowing me to capture the existing rich history of the existing building while upgrading them to be functional and purposeful for present needs

This studio’s emphasis on creating equitable, sustainable, and climate-resilient places speaks to my long-term interest in developing architecture that strengthens the connection between people and their environment. In a world where consistent stressors surround us, I appreciate this studio’s focus on socially aligned, context-specific and human centered methodology. I am excited by the opportunity to explore how architecture can create more meaningful connections, not just between people and places but between the individual and the collective. I look forward to investigating how architecture can accommodate individual needs while fostering a sense of community and environmental stewardship

In joining the "Less Than One" studio, I hope to deepen my understanding of architecture’s potential to foster sustainability, connectivity, and equity while learning from industry experts who are committed to these principle
