The Chandler Chamber of Commerce has partnered again with E&M Consulting, Inc. to produce our Business & Relocation Guide. The publication will be available in both print and digital formats. E&M will be managing the project, including advertising sales and layout/graphic design. They are extremely professional and produce a high-quality publication, and we ask that you give them a moment of your time. E&M will be contacting all members about the advertising opportunities available. The publication will be mailed to every member – a great opportunity to promote and give your company additional exposure.
That is not all, the Chamber is excited to host our 21st Annual Chandler Chamber Charity Golf Tournament on September 23rd. A portion of all proceeds raised go towards sending students to college. The tournament is already sold out, so don’t miss the opportunity to get involved and promote your business in other ways, such as donating raffle prizes, sponsoring, and volunteering!
The Chandler Chamber will celebrate numerous events throughout the month of September. We have some key policy updates and debates coming your way. On September 9th, our Policy Impact Series will feature updates regarding transportation that will impact us all. The Chamber will also host a 2022 CUSD Governing Board Candidate Debate on September 13th. Both of these events will present updates and insights you will not want to miss. In the middle of the month, key educational topics will be discussed at our September 15th CEO & Executive Roundtable regarding workforce pipeline through education/employer partnerships. Then, at the Women in Leadership Luncheon on September 20th, we will hear from Kristy Siefkin, former TV broadcaster, National Spokeswoman, and award-winning journalist. She will be covering her career journey and sharing tips and tricks on improving communication and public speaking skills.

On Aug. 2, the voices of Chandler residents were heard in the Primary Election. I am honored to have earned the trust and support of so many people. As your Mayor, I remain fully committed to building a better community and a stronger Chandler.Votersalso elected three councilmembers during last month’s election. I’m so fortunate to continue working with Councilmember Matt Orlando, who has been a pillar in this community for decades. His experience and insights are valuable assets to the Council. I’d like to welcome two new faces as well. Council-elects Jane Poston and Angel Encinas will be sworn in this January. They both worked incredibly hard throughout their campaigns, knocking on doors, rallying supporters and taking part in countless events and debates. Their fresh perspectives will enhance the City Council and I look forward to working with them over the next four years. I’d also like to congratulate all the candidates who were not successful in this year’s election. Campaigning is such hard work.
Anyone who runs for office –anyone willing to sacrifice the time and make the commitment to serve deserves our appreciation. I thank all of them for being so passionate about this city. Lastly, it’s important to note that something remarkable took place in this election. Prop 470, also known as Home Rule, passed by 86%, which is the largest margin in Chandler history. This is significant because it means the community recognizes how important it is for local elected officials to decide how local money is spent. In fact, had Prop 470 not passed, the City faced more than $200 million in budget cuts. Want to learn more about the August election? Visit chandleraz. gov/elections.

From September 15 to October 15, Latinx Heritage Month recognizes and honors the contributions and importance of Latinx Americans in the United States. The month celebrates the heritages and cultures of Americans from or with ancestors from Mexico, the Caribbean, Spain, and Central and South America.
Latinx Heritage month first began in 1968 as “Hispanic Heritage Week”, and expanded to a 30-day period in mid-September, this recognizes the anniversary of the independence of Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico and Chile also celebrate their independence days on September 16 and 18.

Dedication of the Michael Whitaker Buddy Bench
SRP Announces Leslie Meyers as New Chief Water Executive “Hola!” A buddy bench, inspired by Michael Whitaker, was dedicated at a ceremony at San Marcos Elementary School on his birthday, August 30th. Michael was everybody’s buddy and a mentor to many, including me. After Exchange Club Chandler held a fundraiser last summer for buddy benches at three local schools, Michael challenged me to fund one more. I agreed to use my Epicure sales, and, with the help of friends and family, we made this buddy bench happen – leaving a legacy of love! Thanks, Michael, and Exchange Club Chandler!

Yoga’s Arc is now officially in Tucson, bringing Yoga to service our Veterans at Montarre Veteran’s Recovery Center! Today, they are even more energized to keep changing the mindset of what yoga can look like. To them, yoga looks like coworkers sharing in morning rejuvenation. Yoga looks like a healing breakthrough for a stroke survivor in her own living room. Yoga looks like serving recovery groups at the local hospital or teachers at the local school. Yoga looks exactly how you envision it. With more than 70+ instructors across Arizona, Yoga’s Arc is growing fast, and they are excited to meet people wherever they are in their yoga journey.

The Chandler Chamber Community Foundation Leadership Institute Class 38 completed two successful issue days in August! The first issue day was Business & Industry and focused on business and economic growth in Chandler and the state. This day helped Class 38 understand how Chandler businesses interact with the community. The second issued day was Education which focused on the understanding of the diverse educational opportunities available in the Chandler area. As always, Class 38 received an in-depth review of how each of these sectors plays a key role in Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion through the DE&I discussion with Tyler Conaway, Chandler Chamber DE&I Committee Co-Chair.
