National Small Business Week takes place this year May 1-7. The goal of this week is to bring attention to the small businesses and entrepreneurs within our community that have played a big role in bringing new ideas to life and growing our economy. Please support your local small businesses not only during National Small Business Week, but the entire year!

On May 25 we are honored to welcome the Arizona Restaurant Association to speak on the State of the Restaurant Community. As the industry is seeing a boom in customers, it is struggling to meet the demand with both staff and supplies. Come learn how they are hoping to overcome these trials.

I hope you will join the Chamber at the 35th Chandler Chamber Community Awards.

This is one of my favorite events of the year. It truly is a privilege to honor our incredible businesses, educators, public servants, and community. he Chandler Chamber has always been a leader in public policy, and that is not bound to change anytime soon!

Our Public Policy Committee and team continue to monitor many bills that are being worked through the legislative process. We also recently had a candidate forum for our City Council and Mayoral candidates. Stay tuned for the Chandler Chamber official endorsements being released soon.

The prestigious Community Awards dinner will be taking place back in person for the first time in two years! This year’s event will be held on Thursday, June 2nd at Gila Rivers Resorts and Casinos Wild Horse Pass. This prestigious community awards dinner is the Chandler Chamber’s largest and most colorful general membership event. Individuals and businesses

are recognized through the presentation of excellence awards. The evening includes socializing, light entertainment, dinner, and awards presentations.

Community leaders, public service officials, educators, and businesses ranging from small to large companies join together to celebrate the success within our Chandler Community. It is definitely an event you won’t want to miss!

As we look toward the future, we have plenty of great events on the horizon.

This month, our Women in Leadership program will be highlighting the 2022 City Lifestyle Women of Chandler. In addition, we will be hosting an insightful roundtable discussing Cyber Security through our Public Policy event series. There is plenty coming up, so be sure to check out our website or our newsletters for events and details.

CHAMBER NON-PROFITSPOTLIGHT Pregnancy Care Center provides resources Pregnancy Care Center is a resource center for all individuals in our community who are in an unplanned pregnancy. We offer FREE pregnancy testing with option counseling and FREE ultrasounds. Both parents can receive a wide variety of educational classes. The “Learn & Earn” programs equip parents to provide a healthy

home for their child. Attending allows parents to earn “baby bucks” or to be used to purchase new items in the boutique and Dad Cave.

The newly launched Fatherhood Program is designed to empower fathers to speak their voice for their unborn children and abundant life for their families.

FROM THE MAYOR Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke

One of the most important roles of city government is to foster an environment where residents can connect to the resources they need. The newly launched Golden Neighbors Program does just that.

The program connects seniors to resources for

cost-of-living assistance, home repair, maintenance projects, transportation, and everyday personal and household supplies.

Last month, through a partnership with Salvation Army and a grant from Amazon, the City was able to serve 70 senior residents at a kick-off event by handing out free personal hygiene items and cleaning products. Long-term, the program will facilitate a community of volunteer groups and donations for Golden Neighbors.

Another Chandler program, Let’s Pull Together, provides elderly residents, persons with disabilities, veterans, and families experiencing hardships with much-needed

assistance and will work in tangent with Golden Neighbors.

The City works with local faithbased organizations, businesses, employer volunteer groups and neighbors to help homeowners with minor issues such as alley maintenance and yardwork.

These community connections are a key component to improving the quality of life for so many Chandler residents. We invite you to take part. Chamber members interested in donating can do so by visiting chandleraz.gov/ GoldenNeighbors or texting “Golden Neighbors” to 44321. Offerpad to Plant a Tree for Every Home It Buys or Sells through End of 2022 Real estate tech company announces new partnership with the National Forest Foundation to aid in campaign to plant more than 50 million trees Offerpad, a leading techenabled platform for residential real estate, announced it is partnering with the National Forest Foundation (NFF) as a tree-planting partner in the nonprofit organization’s

50 Million for Our Forests campaign. Offerpad will plant a tree for every home it buys or sells now through the end of 2022. In 2021, Offerpad bought over 9,000 homes and sold more than 6,000 in over 1,700 cities and towns in 21 U.S. markets across the country.

Chandler residents to decide on Prop 470, chose mayor and City Council members in August

On Tuesday, Aug. 2, registered voters in Chandler will have the opportunity to cast a ballot for Mayor, three City Council members and Proposition 470. Prop 470 asks voters to continue the Local Alternative Expenditure Limitation, also known as the Home Rule Option.

Prop 470 is not a tax increase or an additional request for funding. The Home Rule Option simply allows a municipality to make local decisions about how to spend tax revenues to benefit the community.

A “Yes” vote means you are in favor of giving the City Council — who are elected by Chandler residents — the authority to set its annual spending limit based upon available revenues. A “No” vote means you’re not in favor of giving the City additional expenditure authority and that you want the City to stay strictly within the State Expenditure Limitation Program.

If Prop 470 fails, it will mean that for the next four years, Chandler’s budget would be held to the state expenditure limitation from the 1980s. This could result in Chandler having to eliminate more than $216 million from its budget impacting areas such as public safety, street maintenance, recreation, aquatics, library programs and planned capital improvement projects.

Chandler voters have approved the Home Rule Option a total of 10 consecutive times since 1982 — most recently in August 2018.

The deadline to register to vote for this election is July 5. Publicity pamphlets will arrive at voter households in late June, with early ballots arriving after July 6. For more information about the upcoming election, visit chandleraz.gov/elections.

INSTITUTE The Chandler Chamber Community Foundation Leadership Institute Class 38 completed another successful issue day! April’s issue day highlighted Government at both the City and State level. The focus of this issue day was to learn about Government programs and services. Class 38 was able to get an in-depth look at the legislative process and how it affects our community as a whole.

The class visited the State Capitol and received a Tour and the House of Representatives and State Senate along with the Old Capitol Museum. In addition, they heard a very informative update from the Governor’s Office.

With more than 30 years in manufacturing, Greg Fontaine is committed to serving his customers, team members, and community. As an accomplished site manager of one of the largest U.S. based industrial gas facilities within the Air Products and Chemicals fleet, Greg remains focused on safety, integrity, continuous improvement, and managing a diverse work team.

With a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and in Leadership & Management, Greg is energized by opportunities to grow as a leader in a challenging Air Separation market. He has a tremendous passion for excellence.

Dr. Wendy Nance has worked in education for 34 years, the last 16 years with Chandler Unified School District. She has held multiple positions including teacher, principal, Director of Professional Development and Instruction, Director of Human Resources, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, and Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. She has served on booster club boards for both athletic and educational entities. Dr. Wendy Nance’s personal interests include reading, traveling, and grandchildren. Her professional interests include maintaining market shares, providing a future-ready workforce, supporting equity in education, and collaborating between schools and the community they work with.

RALPH GUARIGLIO Arizona Residential and Commercial Realty

Born in Richmond Hill, Queens, Ralph moved to the desert in 1971. Upon learning to drive, he cultivated a penchant for working on cars and building hot rods. In 1978, he began powerlifting, and in 1980 joined one of the world’s largest manufacturing companies that turned in to a 22-year career. In 2002 he married his sweetheart, Linda, and together they have two 4-legged Golden children, Bailey, 13 and Theodore, 7. In 2002 he did fix-n-flips, which launched his real estate career. In 2006 he joined the Chandler Chamber of Commerce, became an Ambassador in 2007, a Board member in 2013, and has chaired the Ostrich Festival for over 7 years. His work with the Chandler Chamber has afforded him the opportunity to give back to a community that has given him so much both personally and professionally.

David is owner and president of Commit Agency. A significant amount of his spare time is spent supporting charity boards including the Chandler Compadres and Boys and Girls Clubs of the Valley. David has been recognized by the ASU Spirit of Enterprise Center with the Monster Entrepreneurial Award, America’s top 25 Most Influential Minds in the Hospitality Industry by HSMAI, the Hospitality, Sales and Marketing Association International and was recognized by Phoenix Business Journal 40 under 40. David earned his MBA from Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business.

David enjoys spending time fishing, golfing and enjoying the White Mountains with his wife Deborah and two sons William (16) and Jackson (13).
