Lori Gallegos, First Credit Union Board Chair, Chandler Chamber of Commerce As we prepare for our 2019 Community Awards event to be held May 31 st at the beautiful Ovations Theater at Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino, we are accepting nominations to ensure we recognize the BEST of Chandler. Many of you attended last year and recall the fun we had with our gameshow theme – spinning the giant sparkling wheel, grabbing cash in the wind-powered cash booth and hitting the giant red buttons to beat your opponent to the answer! But the most important aspect about that event is that it’s local and it’s all about supporting and recognizing Chandler’s businesses, educators and community. This event gives all businesses a chance to be recognized, whether big or small. It also provides an opportunity to focus on elements within Chandler and honor the people that strengthen our community: our educators, public servants and community members that give back. As an attendee, you’ll experience a sense of togetherness which creates an opportunity for collaboration. Being able to meet, network and celebrate success as a community is important for all businesses and may open a new door to future possibilities. We encourage you to actively engage through the nomination of your peers for these prestigious awards. Don’t forget, you can nominate yourself! Category’s include: James R. Snedigar Public Safety Award Community Cup Chamber Cup Educator of the Year Education Support Staff of the Year Education Administrator of the Year Micro Business of the Year Small Business of the Year Medium Business of the Year Large Business of the Year Business Diversity Award Nomination forms can be found by clicking here. Sharing these stories can be an inspiration to others to reach for the stars and grow within our community.
Terri Kimble, President/CEO Chandler Chamber of Commerce @terri_Kimble
We are gearing up for the Chamber’s biggest community event of the year, the Ostrich Festival, to be held March 8— 10th at Chandler’s Tumbleweed Park. Believe me when I say there is something for everyone at this fun-filled three day event that last year attracted over 95,000 attendees! Our main stage acts include Flo Rida on Friday night, the Commodores on Saturday night and Sunday, enjoy Andy Grammer! Plus, over 100 rides, the biggest bounce house in history, plenty of activities for the little ones, not to mention incredible food that just might expand your waistline! That being said, this is your chance to connect your business to the most beloved community event in Chandler! We wanted to make exposure at this event affordable for all of our businesses, and we are offering you the chance to put your banner at the Chamber’s Hospitality tent and VIP tent. Click here for more information on that, but jump on it, because there is limited space available! Also, on Friday, February 8th, we have a very busy policy day planned for you starting at 8 am at the Chamber office with our Policy Impact Series featuring our LD 17 Legislators. They will be introducing us to their priorities for this legislative session. Then, join us for lunch at 11:30 over at the Chandler Hilton for our Economic Update Luncheon when we look at the impact air travel has on the Valley. Both of these sessions will be filled with great information. You can register for both of these events by visiting the Chamber Calendar.

Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke City of Chandler @KevinHartke
Fostering premier development and business Recently, I had the opportunity to celebrate the grand opening of the six-story Class A office space at Chandler Viridian. It’s in a prominent location and establishes a template for a premier mixed-use development. What an upgrade to a site that had been an eyesore and monument to the recession of a decade ago! The contemporary design and features of the development are attracting leading-edge companies in the Price Corridor. Stantec located experts in the design and delivery of infrastructure and other projects in our innovation and technology hub. Workuity offers its unique co-working space to support our entrepreneurs, start-ups and small businesses as they scale and grow. This project is just one illustration of the development community’s confidence in our local economy. Chandler is one of the hottest submarkets in the region for speculative office and industrial construction. More than 700,000 square feet of office space is under construction for delivery later this year. Industrial development has been nearly as active with 600,000 square feet completed last year. While these investments facilitate the expansion and location of businesses, we also need business development programs to assist entrepreneurs and small businesses start, grow and thrive. The Chandler Innovations Business Incubator has become a critical asset in our entrepreneurial ecosystem with programs and services offered to early stage companies with high growth potential. It’s now serving nearly 40 clients and these companies are advancing through the program, with several generating revenue and preparing to graduate. The great success of the Startup Connection event and our leadership of the Angel Investor initiative last year enhanced Chandler’s regional visibility. I am confident that the strength of private investment combined with our favorable job market, pipeline of educated talent and outstanding lifestyle, we will see continued success throughout 2019 and beyond. I plan to share more details on the year ahead at my annual State of the City Address. This year’s event will be held Thursday, February 21, at the Chandler Center for the Arts, 250 N. Arizona Ave. The evening begins with a reception at 5 p.m., followed by my remarks at approximately 6 p.m. I hope you can join us as we continue to celebrate some fantastic achievements within our business community.
Meet Cori Garcia, Mayor and Council Communications Manager Cori Garcia joined the City of Chandler in January as the Mayor and Council Communications Manager to manage the administrative staff and communication functions of the Mayor and Council Office. Garcia will use her extensive background in digital communications, event planning and marketing to develop communication strategies that fulfill the needs of the City Council, promote City initiatives, produce communications and address inquiries. Garcia worked the past three years at the Town of Gilbert’s Office of Economic Development as their marketing and communications administrator. She also previously worked as the marketing manager for the Downtown Mesa Association. 5
POLICY IMPACT WRAP-UP January 25, 2019 Featuring Chandler Mayor, Kevin Hartke and Garrick Taylor, Senior Vice President of Government Relations & Communications for the Arizona Chamber. CLICK HERE to view this session. Garrick Taylor, Arizona Chamber of Commerce’s Senior Vice President of Government Relations & Communications, provided insight into the climate and priorities guiding the 2019 federal and state Legislatures. Concerning the Arizona Fifty-Fourth Legislature, Garrick outlined the makeup of the leadership and crucial committees that will lead Arizona’s closely divided House and Senate. Importantly, Arizona House Republicans cannot lose a single legislator’s vote to pass

legislation on a party-line vote—a challenge that must be overcome to achieve the Chamber’s 2019 legislative priorities. State-level legislative priorities for 2019 include (1) securing Arizona’s water future, (2) tax conformity, (3) ballot initiative reform, (4) civil justice reform, and (5) education. Chief among these priorities is approving the interstate Drought Contingency Plan by the January 31st deadline to avoid federal intervention. As to federal priorities, Garrick detailed the importance of (1) ratifying USMCA, passing immigration reform with a positive DACA resolution, (2) preserving existing tax cuts, (3) continuing regulatory reform, and (4) increasing infrastructure funding.
Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke shared the City of Chandler’s successes and accolades and provided updates for City goals and priorities in 2019. Mayor Hartke stated that the City of Chandler is known as a city of technology and innovation and has consistently received AAA bond ratings and received numerous City accolades, including Best Place to Work and Live, Safest City in America, and Lowest Municipal Costs. Mayor Hartke shared the City’s five priorities with constituents: (1) Fiscal Responsibility, (2) Water Preservation, (3) Transportation Infrastructure, (4) Safe Neighborhoods, and (5) Responsible Mayor, Kevin Hartke
