PRESIDENT | CEO UPDATE

PRESIDENT | CEO
This year the Chandler Chamber Chandler Businesses truly earned its title as leaders and innovators. Our business community came together to develop solutions and find new ways of conducting business to keep our community safe and thriving. I want to thank all of you, for the strength and support you have given us throughout the year.
We have hosted over 3,800 attendees at our monthly networking events, celebrated over 100 businesses openings and grew our membership by over 200 businesses and counting…. the year isn’t over yet! Our large events continue to host record numbers with sold out events such as our golf tournament and Chandler 100 events.
Our business community knows what it takes to be successful. Many of you raised money, provided job opportunities, and donated your time and resources to ensuring our local economy would withstand the pandemic. I applaud you for your flexibility and determination.
Terri Kimble CEO
Throughout 2022 Chandler was recognized as a top place to live, work, buy a home and raise a family. Moving forward we will continue to transform the way we work, and we are appreciative to keep connecting with you through new outlets like webinars and virtual events.
Above all, as a Chamber, you can count on us to continue to be there for you. We will remain committed to offering the tools you need to succeed because we are member driven and truly stronger together.
BOARD CHAIR

More than anything, the last few years have reminded me of the importance of community. We are lucky to have a growing and diverse city like Chandler to call home. The holiday season is a time that reminds us of our values, and what a beautiful time to give back.

While the holiday is a great way to support the local businesses in the Chandler community, it is an even better time to form a new habit that makes our community an even greater place to live. Small businesses need our support today and every day.
As the Chamber board chair, I work extensively within the community to help promote keeping your dollars right here in Chandler. Using your buying power wisely helps keep the
local economy running strong. When you “Shop Chandler,” you also support local schools and non-profits. Many of these organizations and agencies rely on our support and quite often donations from us as business owners. It is a great opportunity to educate and celebrate the generations to come.
Shopping locally has the added benefit of being a completely unique experience. You can find a thoughtful gift for your loved ones that you may not find anywhere else. You might meet new neighbors or even make new business connections.
I thank you in advance for your continual support of the Chandler Community and Chandler Chamber! Happy Holidays!
CHAMBER NON-PROFITSPOTLIGHT

FROM THE MAYOR
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Holidays from Mayor Kevin Hartke!

During this season of hope and joy, I want to thank our neighbors, businesses and City employees for their continued commitment to making the Chandler the greatest
city in the Valley. I will never stop marveling at the unwavering spirit of the people who live, work and play here.
As I reflect on 2022, there is so much to celebrate. In collaboration with our residents and businesses, we have taken action on a number of items this year that lay the groundwork for the future of Chandler. We welcomed new and expanding businesses and Intel announced its $20 billion expansion. We unveiled Chandler Flex, the city’s first on-demand transportation service that connects riders to several popular destinations and employers. We celebrated the cultures of
our community with a variety of festivals and events. And we passed the Chandler Embracing Diversity, Equity and Diversity ordinance, further solidifying Chandler as a welcoming city for all.

And through all these milestones, Chandler remains one of the safest cities in the nation, with a wonderful quality of life for all who live and visit.
I look forward to a new year filled with exciting opportunities, growth and innovation around every corner. On behalf of City Council, I wish you all happy holidays in Chandler!

Local Colleges Win at Governor’s Celebration of Innovation

Tuesday, November 8, 2022, the Arizona Technology Council and Arizona Commerce Authority announced the winners of the 2022 Governor’s Celebration of Innovation awards. Innovator of the Year for Academia was awarded to Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) and Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) for their Artificial Intelligence partnership with Intel.
This is the nineteenth year of the Governor’s Celebration of Innovation Awards, while this year’s academia distinction highlights a program that’s the first of its kind for community colleges. In fact, CGCC and EMCC are the first in Arizona—and the nation—to offer an associate degree (AAS) and certificate of completion (CCL) in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
A main component of the project is the new AI incubator labs at CGCC and EMCC, designed to support Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) students enrolled in the program. The AI labs were paid for in part by a grant from the Intel Corporation. In addition,
Intel partnered with the American Association of Community Colleges and Dell to launch the AI Incubator Network, which will select ten new community colleges to support the design and development of AI incubators. But as the foremost institution
a certain point in most fields, you need to do some kind of research and that requires data. And AI has a large hand in data and how we analyze it and process it in a nontraditional way.”
CGCC and EMCC are very grateful to the Arizona Technology Council and Arizona Commerce Authority for the honor.
to launch the program, CGCC and EMCC are already seeing students from a variety of backgrounds choosing to study Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. “We have students who have been working in the semiconductor industry for 30 years,” according to Habib Mater, CGCC AI instructor. “We also have traditional high school students coming through. We have students who major solely in AI. And we have CS students. Once you get to
“It is such an honor to be awarded the Governor’s Innovation Award for the joint accomplishment between CGCC and EMCC,” said Matar. “Our crew was sitting in the crowd listening to the announcers mention the great work of ASU, NAU and UofA. I remember feeling a tinge of disappointment as our community college system was overlooked multiple times in announcements of great work being done in education. However, when it came time to announce the winner of the academic award, CGCC and EMCC came out on top as winners! It was heartwarming to know we are being recognized for the hard work we do.”
