Bringing the Chandler community together is what our Chamber is all about, so we are excited to offer a month of exciting events, from tips on developing a positive mindset, to how referendums & initiatives are placed on your ballot.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, our Chamber partnered with the City of Chandler to provide businesses with free PPE equipment. We helped stop the spread of the coronavirus, and now, four years after the initial outbreak, healthcare is facing a different challenge: workforce shortages that impact every level of the industry.

We will be hosting a free event on February 27th - “Flatline: Addressing The Healthcare Shortage”, where medical staff and higher education professionals will share their plans for fixing this issue, along with how you and your business can help. Register HERE. The Ostrich Festival is one month away, and it is coming fast! We are proud to host two weekends (March 8-10 and 15-17) of entertainment, family fun, and music for everyone.

Meet Grant: Our Newest Intern Grant Thompson is a University of Arizona student immersed in the world of Public Management & Policy, & he is driven by a sincere desire to create positive change through public service. His academic pursuits have equipped him with a solid understanding of government & policy frameworks.

Complemented by practical experiences while currently working at the Chandler Chamber of Commerce as a public policy and government relations intern, he is skillful is translating classroom knowledge into tangible results.

Originally from Lodi, California, Grant graduated from Lodi High School where he was in the top of his class & participated in both men’s water polo & the swim team. His career ambition revolves around contributing to the greater good through impactful public service. Rooted in a commitment to equality & inclusivity, he aspires to shape policies that resonate with the diverse needs of Arizona communities.

LETTER FROM THE MAYOR

Amending Codes to Foster Infill and Redevelopment By: Mayor Kevin Hartke Infill and redevelopment are an important part of Chandler’s long-term economic vitality. As a City Council, we have proactively established policies and programs to encourage desirable redevelopment activities. And, we’ve experienced the fruits of infill and redevelopment in parts of Downtown Chandler and Uptown Chandler.

This past November, we amended Chandler’s Infill Incentive Plan and Infill Incentive District, both of which were established in 2009, to support future development projects.

The Infill Incentive District encompasses all areas of Chandler north of the Loop 202 Santan Freeway. The Infill Incentive Plan considers Class C office buildings and retail centers as eligible projects. We also adjusted incentives to align with recent changes in state law to comply with the Arizona Constitution’s Gift Clause.

This month, Chandler will take another step to consider code amendments that facilitate targeted uses of adaptive reuse, infill, mixed-use and redevelopment tools that support the vitality of commercial centers and neighborhoods.

To act upon feedback from the business community and residents, we have been evaluating proposed code amendments for the past 10 months. City staff obtained input from various stakeholders, resident subcommittees and City Council work sessions. Those recommendations will now be considered for approval in February.

The proposed amendments maintain high development standards, while incorporating innovative aesthetics and amenities in our built environment. And, they’ll further our business-friendly approach by providing a predictable development process with exceptional customer service.

A few of the proposed amendments that reflect our infill and redevelopment goals, while addressing neighborhood concerns, include: • Reduce setbacks for infill or redevelopment • Establish queuing requirements for online order pick-up windows • Establish permitted uses and conditions for home-based businesses • Allow buildings constructed of shipping containers that maintain the character of the surrounding area and adhere to building safety codes These amendments are one way to offer flexibility with small businesses and reinvestment by the development community. Recruiting Connection, LLC Beth Brizel has lived in Chandler, Arizona for the past 29 years.

She is from the Bay Area and has lived in Denver, NYC, and Chicago.

Beth has been a successful small business owner since 2004 owning a recruiting firm that specializes in Commercial Property Management/Commercial Real Estate nationwide.

Beth served on the Kyrene Governing Board 2010- 2014 and CoChaired the Tempe Union High School District successful Bond and Override elections in 2017, 2019, and 2022.

Beth has been a member of the DEIB committee since 2001 and believes in the mission and goal of this important Chandler Chamber committee.

Dr. William Crawford DW Consulting Group

Dr. William Crawford is an Executive Vice President with DW Consulting Group and oversees educational services and community partnerships. Additionally, he is employed as an adjunct professor with Northern Arizona University.

Dr. Crawford retired from the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) after a distinguished career of more than 24 years. Prior to MCCCD, William Crawford was employed by the Phoenix Police Department where he held numerous leadership positions and served with distinction for over 23 years.

William Crawford holds both Doctorate and Master of Education degrees from Northern Arizona University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Justice Studies from Arizona State University.

Salt River Project (SRP) Erika Castro is the Supplier Diversity Program Manager at Salt River Project (SRP) and carries out SRP’s Supplier Diversity strategies and activities by connecting small and diverse businesses to the business and to the purchasing teams responsible for SRP’s business units. Erika has been with SRP for 15 years and enjoys being able to lead a team that makes a difference with Arizona’s small and diverse businesses.

An active community leader, Erika is a board member of the Chandler Cultural Foundation Board and Commission and WBEC-West (Women’s Business Enterprise Council West). She also serves as Co-Chair for the Public Policy Committee at the Chandler Chamber of Commerce and quad chair for Chandler Leadership’s Class 40.

Education & Workforce Committee Linda Qian Intel Corporation

For more than a decade, Linda Qian has helped define Intel’s corporate social responsibility vision, strategy and outcomes for investors, customers, employees, and community stakeholders.

As Communications Director for Intel’s Arizona Community Relations team, Linda is focused on helping important community stakeholders understand the value Intel’s semiconductor manufacturing and R&D investments benefit Arizona, and how the company is advancing a more inclusive and sustainable future for our community.

Linda serves on the Board of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce.

She holds a BS in International Sustainable Development and Policy from the University of California, Berkeley. Linda lives in Gilbert, Arizona with her husband, two daughters, and elderly cat, Cocoa.

Chandler Chamber Board Highlights Robert Sinkule Yoga’s Arc

Robert grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and would travel to Arizona every summer to spend time with his family in the Phoenix area. Robert had the opportunity to play college football, but after a serious knee injury, he moved to Arizona to attend ASU. After school, he was hired at Intel Corporation, and in 2020 celebrated his 25th year of service. Robert continued his passion for fitness, becoming a cycle and boot camp instructor for Mountainside Fitness Ocotillo where he met his wife Kary. In 2018 they combined their passions and founded Yoga’s Arc, a mobile-based yoga company with the motto, “Yoga for Everyone, Anywhere, Any Time!”

Richard M. Amoroso Squire Patton Boggs

Richard Amoroso is a trial lawyer who has extensive experience successfully litigating complex products liability cases particularly in the automotive and trucking industry.

Richard has more than 30 years of experience handling commercial and business litigation matters, including arbitration and asset recovery. Along with his product liability expertise, he has a thorough understanding of the insurance industry. He has litigated countless coverage disputes, assisted several large private equity fund clients with insurance due diligence and planning related to large merger and acquisition transactions, and served for more than a decade as the CEO of Republic Western Insurance.

Additionally, Richard works with commercial and real estate clients managing all aspects of their commercial litigation and business litigation matters.

Dr. Banton is the Founder and CEO of AVID Consulting, LLC. She is a transformational business leader with more than 25 years of experience designing, developing, and implementing enterprise-wide workforce optimization initiatives. Her firm, AVID Consulting, specializes in providing results-oriented organizational development solutions that optimize workforce performance and create work environments where talented people thrive.

Dr. Banton holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, a master’s in organizational leadership, and a doctorate in management from the University of Phoenix.

Ryan Moyer

Gila River Resorts & Casinos Originally from northern Ohio, Ryan and his family moved to Phoenix Arizona in the late 80’s at the age of 10. He has been an Arizona resident ever since and a Chandler resident for just under the past 20 years. Ryan graduated from Arizona State University in 2001 with a degree centered on the Hospitality Industry which has been his career since 2000. He has spent the past 10+ years with Gila River Resorts & Casinos in Sales making sure the Resort and meeting space stay full. He has been married for over 20 years to his wife Vanessa and they have 3 teenage children. Jack is 19, Dylan 17 and Kamryn is 15.

Ryan loves to Golf, watch all things sports and route for his beloved home town Ohio teams as well as his adoptive Arizona home teams.

For your business, home, & community Valley first grader’s artwork earns spot on pizza boxes Valleywide

(Zzeeks Pizza)

A Valley first grader will have his artwork delivered to homes around the Valley thanks to an annual restaurant drawing contest.

Zzeeks Pizza hosts an art contest calling on children across the Valley to offer up a slice of creativity in exchange for $1,000 to help with future education expenses.

This time around, James R. from CTA Independence Chandler was chosen as the top artist. His pizza-themed drawing will go onto all 12” pizza boxes at all five Zzeeks locations.

“This was a lot of work trying to narrow the giant pile of amazing drawings for our 2024 pizza boxes,” a recent post read on the restaurant’s Facebook page. “We had such a good time going through all of them.”

What Every Small Business Needs to Know About the Corporate Transparency Act

The Corporate Transparency Act, which goes into effect in January 2024, may require your small business to report information about ownership to the government.

Knowing the intricacies of this act and its potential impact is essential for small businesses. Otherwise, they may incur criminal or civil penalties for not filing or updating this report.

What is the Corporate Transparency Act? Enacted in 2021, the CTA aims to combat illicit activity including tax fraud, money laundering, and financing for terrorism by capturing more ownership information for specific U.S. businesses operating in or accessing the country’s market. Under the new legislation, businesses that meet certain criteria must submit a Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) Report to the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), providing details identifying individuals who are associated with the reporting company.

The CTA was established to prevent individuals with malicious intent from hiding or benefitting from the ownership of their U.S. entities to facilitate illegal operations which, according to Congress, is a widely-used tactic that affects national security and economic integrity.

Who is considered a beneficial owner of a company?

According to the CTA, an individual qualifies as a beneficial owner if they directly or indirectly have a significant ownership stake in a company. This person either has a major influence on the reporting company’s decisions or operations, owns at least 25% of the company’s shares, or has a similar level of control over the company’s equity.

What information must be reported about a company’s beneficial owners?

The details that reporting companies need to include in the BOI report vary based on the date their business was established. Businesses registered or established post-January 1, 2024, must provide information regarding the business, its beneficial owners, and its company applicants — including owners’ and applicants’ (if applicable) names, addresses, birthdays, and identification numbers (such as a license or passport number), and the jurisdiction of the documents. However, businesses established before that date can omit information regarding company applicants.

New Ad Campaign to Bolster Voter List Maintenance, Empower Voters Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer launched a series of ads to increase ongoing voter list maintenance by encouraging voters to check their registration at BeBallotReady.Vote.

“We take our responsibility to ensure secure elections seriously with daily voter roll clean ups – but we need your help,” Recorder Richer said in the video and radio ads. “Just visit BeBallotReady.Vote to check your registration status, especially if you have changed your name, address, or political party. Thanks for your help in keeping our voter rolls clean.”

The Chandler Education Foundation (CEF) is delighted to announce that its much-anticipated Winner’s Choice Car or Cash Raffle fundraiser is now open. Building on over two decades of partnership with Big Two Toyota, CEF’s 2023 campaign resulted in the awarding of $76,000 in scholarships to graduating students from Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) high schools. An additional nearly $20,000 was allocated to CUSD schools’ Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTOs) and Booster Clubs.

In its 21st edition, the Winner’s Choice Raffle is embracing a digital format. Hosted through a specialized online platform for nonprofit fundraising, participants can explore raffle details, prizes, and sponsors, track CEF’s progress toward its fundraising goal, purchase tickets, allocate credits to specific schools, and witness the Grand Prize drawing - all online. Jennifer Hewitt, CEF’s Executive Director, expressed enthusiasm for the transition, stating, “The move to a digital platform aligns with the increasing confidence and familiarity with online payments. Chandler’s Microchip Technology Lands $162M in Federal Grant

Rotary Club of Sun Lakes 2024: Upcoming Golf Tournament

One of Arizona’s largest corporations has received preliminary approval for roughly $162 million in federal funding under the CHIPS & Science Act to expand the company’s domestic supply chain for semiconductor products.

The nonbinding incentives from the Commerce Department would allow the Chandler-based corporation Microchip Technology to create more than 700 new jobs at company facilities in Oregon & Colorado but not in Arizona.

Microchip Technology ranks among Arizona’s 100 largest nongovernmental employers with nearly 2,400 Arizona workers here as of the Republic 100 special report for 2023. In addition, the company is the third most valuable corporation based in Arizona after copper-mining giant FreeportMcMoRan & trash hauler Republic Services.

Microchip’s stock is worth about $45 billion.

With the preliminary agreement, the Commerce Department will begin a due diligence analysis of the proposed projects. When all that has been completed, the department may move toward a final award, subject to further negotiations with Microchip that could change the terms of the deal.

Black History Month provides us an opportunity to honor and celebrate Black Americans’ contributions, accomplishments, and endeavors in our country. National Black History Month origins date back to 1915 when Carter G. Woodson and others from across the United States traveled to Washington D.C. to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the emancipation of Black people.

Fast forward to 1986 when President Ronald Reagan issued Presidential Proclamation 5443, which proclaimed that “the foremost purpose of Black History Month is to make all Americans aware of the struggle for freedom and equal opportunity. It is also a time to celebrate the many achievements of blacks in every field, from science and the arts to politics and religion.

It not only offers Black Americans an occasion to explore their heritage, but it also offers all Americans an occasion and opportunity to gain a fuller perspective of the contributions of Black Americans to our Nation. The American experience and character can never be fully grasped until the knowledge of Black history assumes its rightful place in our schools and scholarship.”

The DEI&B Committee encourages you to reflect on and celebrate the numerous achievements and accomplishments of Black Americans and their contributions to the American experience. Consider some of history’s most influential African-American leaders in business and entrepreneurship such as: Annie Malone who in 1917 founded a commercial and educational business that specialized in African-American cosmetics and was recorded as the first African-American female millionaire; Arthur Gaston established the Citizens Savings and Loan Association and was one of the richest African-American men in the United States throughout the 1960s and a leading employer in Alabama; Madam C.J. Walker a self-made millionaire developed a special line of beauty and hair products for African-American women; John Johnson was the founder of Johnson Publishing Company, which published Ebony and Jet Magazines and was the first African-American to appear on Forbes 400 in 1982; Reginald Lewis, a graduate of Harvard Law School, founded the venture capital firm TLC Group LP and in 1987 bought Beatrice International Foods – at that time the grocery store conglomerate was the largest Black owned and managed company with more than $1 billion in annual sales.

These are just a few examples of the contributions of Black Americans to business and entrepreneurship in our country.

SRP Electric Customers Can Receive Two Free Shade Trees to Cool Their Homes & Reduce Energy Costs

SRP’s popular shade tree program returns in 2024 with a series of three shade tree workshops scheduled in January and February. After completing one of the virtual workshops, customers can receive two free shade trees.

When placed strategically around the home, these trees can help reduce cooling costs during the summer months while also needing less water than other trees.

The free, virtual workshops will educate customers on how to plant and care for the trees before receiving them. The workshops will be held on the following dates: • Saturday, Feb. 10, 10-11 a.m.

• Saturday, Feb. 24, 10-11 a.m.

Before planting a tree, residents are instructed to call Arizona 811 to find out where existing underground lines are located. One call to this free service notifies the appropriate local utilities, which send technicians to the requested site to mark the approximate location of existing underground lines.

Intel & UMC announce collaboration to develop and manufacture in Arizona Intel and United Microelectronics Corporation (“UMC”), a leading global semiconductor foundry based in Taiwan, today announced a collaboration on the development of a 12-nanometer semiconductor process platform to address high-growth markets such as mobile, communication infrastructure and networking.

The new process node will be developed and manufactured in Fabs 12, 22 and 32 at Intel’s Ocotillo Technology Fabrication site in Arizona.

The long-term agreement brings together Intel’s at-scale U.S. manufacturing capacity and UMC’s extensive foundry experience on mature nodes to enable an expanded process portfolio. Crystal grew up outside of Philadelphia, PA. Before she moved here to Chandler, AZ she lived in Beaverton, Oregon for 22 years.

Crystal started helping people with Arbonne in 2007. She enjoys helping people create and maintain healthy sustainable lifestyles with Arbonne.

She teaches easy health habits, educates on personal care products and creates plans for her client’s specific needs. She enjoys being the connector to people and businesses.
