Your Chamber Working For You Terri Kimble, President/CEO @terri_kimble Summer in Phoenix, for most people, means a slower pace for families and businesses alike. Here at the Chandler Chamber we like to help our businesses promote themselves so they keep making an impression on potential clients, even through the less hectic months. Very soon we will start streaming our Hot Deals and Job Opportunities on the home page of our website and our social medial. So it is becoming increasingly more important for our members to keep those modules current on their profile pages so their opportunities get posted. If you don’t know how to update that section of your profile, please contact the Chamber and we can help you through that. Speaking of job opportunities, we have created new coalition here at the Chamber to advocate for education and workforce development. You will be hearing more about this in the near future, but we feel the nurturing of our potential workforce is detrimental to the growth of Chandler’s economic development now and in the years to come. We have set in motion some very exciting programs and information that will be showcased at our Education Forum in November. The month of July saw many programs with well attended events and benchmarks. Here are just a few examples of how the Chamber worked for you in July: 

Our Young Executive Series attracted over 150 attendees at Otaku Sushi where members made connections and enjoyed wonderful food.

We celebrated four ribbon cuttings and Videoloco created an incredible video for True Rest Float Spa. CLICK HERE to check out that video and contact them for information on how to have a video made for your company.

After finishing our How We Stand meetings in June, we started work on compiling and processing the information that will appear in our 2017 How We Stand document.

Our Chandler Chamber Foundation Leadership class completed their Healthcare issue day learning about Chandler Regional hospital and going “behind the scenes” in that incredible facility.

Wake Up Chandler was held at Studio Fit and Business After Business took place at the Radisson Phoenix/ Chandler. Over 200 people between both events made connections for their businesses.

Business Golf had over 20 people ripping up the links at Lone Tree Golf Club.

The Ask an Expert series featured eMail Marketing techniques for small business with expert Jill Gengler from Infusionsoft.

Chamber 101 packed the large conference room with over 70 people; many new and experienced members alike learned how to get the most out of their Chamber membership.

We are currently signing up foursomes for our September 16th Charity Golf Tournament. If you would like to donate a raffle item to promote your business, contact sarahm@chandlerchamber.com

We are ramping up to celebrated the top 100 companies in Chandler; save the date for October 26th—you won’t want to miss this year’s event. It will be full of surprises!

I hope you are keeping cool in the midst of this very warm summer. As always, if you need any ideas on how to promote your business, do business with the City of Chandler or the community, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Commentary from Mayor Tibshraeny @jaytibhraeny

City budget is one of Fiscal Strength and Low-Cost Service Chandler’s strong economic foundation is the product of careful financial planning that spans several decades. Policies that have been strictly adhered to by those you have entrusted with your hard-earned tax dollars. It’s one of the reasons that this year’s budget theme is: “Fiscal Strength and Low-Cost Services.” The 2016-17 budget, adopted by the Council in June, shows a slight increase from the prior year, and we again are able to fund new parks and amenities, develop infrastructure, deliver quality services and maintain our roads and utility systems. We continue to be among the lowest of all Valley cities for resident costs. This plan also contains a slight decrease to the City property tax rate and no increases in the City sales tax rate. We celebrated many successes over the past year including the dedication of the Downtown Stage, our Veterans Memorial and Citrus Vista Park, while rededicating Folley Park after significant upgrades. We welcomed many new businesses to Chandler including the FedEx Distribution Center near the airport, as well as the Ride Now, Porsche and Earnhardt Cadillac dealership at our Auto Mall. We also welcomed the Google Autonomous Car project in Chandler, joining just three other cities across the nation for the testing of the next wave of driverless car technology. We continue to construct and widen roads in south Chandler, aggressively maintain and improve others, while undertaking some significant new utility projects vital to the future growth of local commerce. Thanks to our management team and budget staff for their dedicated work to prepare a prudent, sensible plan. This financial roadmap is the product of a long and transparent process -- and many hours of work on the part of our City staff, the City Council, and you, the residents of Chandler. Through public meetings, surveys and our popular Budget Connect online forum, we have developed a sustainable fiscal blueprint that this community can take great pride in. All reasons why we have been able to maintain AAA bond ratings from all three rating agencies. Thanks also to my fellow City Councilmembers. They remain, as do I, committed to an unparalleled quality of life for our City and residents. We live in a tremendous community. One that exemplifies this year’s theme to its core. We truly are a city of “Fiscal Strength and Low-Cost Services.”

Chandler Chamber City Council Candidate Forum

August, the doldrums of summer are beginning to wane and we begin to see neighbors and friends returning home from time spent away escaping the heat. School is gearing up to start the new academic year flush with new infusions of cash from the implementation of Proposition 123, checks began going out to districts across the state last month. The Chamber was actively engaged in promoting passage of Prop 123 and we are excited to see the impact these dollars will have on our local districts. Though summer can be slow, this year is an exception as Arizona prepares for the August primaries for federal, state, and local elections. As you saw in last month’s magazine, the Chamber has put out our endorsements of candidates for local, county, and statewide offices following an intensive interview process and analyzing of candidate positions.

We are confident that our committee and board selected candidates that embrace the Chamber’s pro-business attitudes and will serve our interests well in the offices they are seeking. We wish them all the best of luck in their upcoming primaries on August 30, 2016. On Tuesday July 19, 2016 the Chamber, in conjunction with our partners at the East Valley Chambers of Commerce Alliance, hosted a candidate forum for Congressional District 5. The seat currently held by Congressman Matt Salmon is up for grabs after he announced this past spring that he will not be seeking reelection. The race currently has six candidates vying for the primary nomination, four Republicans (State Senate President Andy Biggs, Representative Justin Olson, Former Maricopa County Supervisor Don Stapley, and Christine Jones) and two Democrats (Talia Fuentes and Kinsey Remaklus). The forum was moderated by Jim Small of the Arizona Capitol Times. Candidates were asked 12 questions plus a yes/no answer lightning round. You should expect to see the Chamber’s endorsement in this race early this month. The Chandler Chamber would like to encourage all members to vote YES on Prop 493! This proposition asks voters to ratify the City Council’s adoption of the Chandler General Plan 2016. Registered voters will have the opportunity to let their voice be heard on this matter on August 30, 2016. City Council candidates will also have the chance to be elected in the primary if they receive a majority of the votes cast. August 1, 2016 is the deadline to register to vote to be eligible to vote in this primary election. Public policy meetings end their summer hiatus on August 12th where we will have Senator Jeff Dial, Rep Bob Robson and Rep Jill Norgaard all of LD 18 speaking about the upcoming session and wins from the previous session. August 26th we are honored to have Chief of Police Sean Duggan of Chandler PD speaking about the changing landscape of policing in the wake of national tragedies and taking your questions. As always, we encourage you to register ahead of time a www.chandlerchamber.com and we hope to see you there!

For Your Information . . . ADA Compliance Lawsuits You may have seen this article “Hotels, bars, restaurants face waves of ADA compliance lawsuits” a few months ago in the Phoenix Business Journal. We’ve been made aware that lawsuits related to alleged ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) violations are now being filed in surrounding Valley cities targeting hotels, bars and restaurants. It’s highly possible that a law firm could contact Chandler-based businesses on behalf of disabled plaintiffs. If you own/manage a hotel, bar or restaurant, you are encouraged to proactively learn about ADA compliance. Below are several resources for your review: Introduction to the ADA: https://www.ada.gov/ ada_intro.htm. ADA Links and Resources: https://www.ada.gov/ ada_info.htm ADA Mediation Program: https://www.ada.gov/ mediate.htm The ADA Web Search Portal is a focused search of important websites that contain information about the ADA and could be a great starting point. Its purpose is to connect individuals with high quality information about the Americans with Disabilities Act and to assist individuals in answering ADA questions. Chandler City Council Unanimously Passes Huge New Office Park For Price Road Corridor Allred Park Place II To Help Chandler Stay Hotspot For Technology Companies The Chandler City Council unanimously approved the Douglas Allred Company’s latest development project in the Price Road Corridor, Park Place II. Specifically, the City Council approved a rezoning to Planned Area Development (PAD) and a Preliminary Development Plan (PDP) for an employment business park campus, which will allow the Allred Company to build the Park Place II development. In addition to the project’s proposed conference center hotel that will serve as the “HUB” of the master campus plan, the Park Place II development will bring approximately 928,000 square feet

of office and employment space, and will flank both sides of Price Road with high value employers and will expand upon what the corridor’s most prolific developer has already built on Price Road from the 202 Freeway down to Willis Roads and Park Place I. Park Place II will ultimately bring Allred’s total development space in Chandler to nearly three million square feet. Park Place I’s portfolio includes six office buildings with 2,400 employees that are fully leased. Current tenants in Park Place I include some of the Valley’s most notable companies, such as Healthways and Infusionsoft. “We are ecstatic to have the support of the Chandler City Council as we continue to grow Chandler’s technology corridor,” said Allred CEO David Allred. “The unanimous support that we received demonstrates the council’s belief that Park Place II will help Chandler stay a premier jobs center as it competes more directly with Tempe, Scottsdale, and Phoenix for the jobs of the future. Park Place II not only ensures Chandler’s competitiveness, but it will generate massive economic benefits and tax revenues for the entire region, state and school district.”

Transaction Privilege Tax - Upcoming Changes The Arizona Department of Revenue has made changes to Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT) licensing and reporting, as required by law. These changes affect all Arizona-based businesses as well as those located outside of Arizona that sell to Arizona customers. These changes will take effect with the June tax return that taxpayers file in July. Businesses can file TPT returns online at www.AZTaxes.gov. All businesses, regardless of geographic location, will be required to use location-based reporting when submitting TPT returns. All businesses licensed with the Department will receive a location code(s) identifying each physical location where the business operates. Location codes will be automatically populated by correct jurisdiction for taxpayers who file electronically, or taxpayers will need to enter the codes correctly on the city detail page using the new TPT forms (TPT-2 and TPT-EZ). The Department strongly encourages all taxpayers to file online for easier filing and faster processing. Businesses with more than one physical location in Arizona are now required by law to file their TPT returns electronically via www.AZTaxes.gov. Please know the Department has set a goal to eventually eliminate all paper TPT transactions. Questions can be directed to the Department at 1-844698-9176 or they can email AskTPT@azdor.gov.

Small Business Health Options: Can they Boost Your Bottom Line SHOP Options – Can they boost my bottom Line? The Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) Marketplace has been operating since 2014 helping small employers (those with 1-50 employees) secure affordable health plans for their employees. The federal SHOP Marketplace may be an avenue to help your business save money on premiums. Today, the number and type of health insurance plans available to Arizonans who purchase insurance as an individual or family has shrunk considerably and a much smaller percentage of people qualify for an APTC in Arizona than many expected.

Shelly Winson

The SHOP Marketplace has implemented many improvements to the system for 2017 and may be a viable choice for a business owner who wants to offer employees access to plans with the level of coverage and provider networks that used to be available in the individual market. Please join Shelly Winson of True Choice Benefits and Jim Brown of Fish Window Cleaning for a talk show style interview about the SHOP Marketplace, followed by a Q&A session where you will get the answers important to you: -Does your business qualify to participate? Will you receive a small business tax credit? -How many of your employees must participate? What plans are available? -What is the business’ financial responsibility? How easy is the system to use? Please check out your SHOP Options on Wednesday, 8/24/2016 at 9:00 am at the Chandler Chamber of Commerce, 25 S. Arizona Pl., Ste 201, Chandler, AZ 85225.

Ambassador the Month Congratulations

Dave Waltzer Combined Insurance I was born and raised in Wakefield, MA. I’m a wicked big Boston sports fan! I attended Babson College in Wellesley, MA for 1 year then joined the U.S.A.F and served for 4 years. 1998 was a huge year for me. I got out of the Air Force, I met my wife Sandy, and I started my career in sales. Sandy and I have been married for 15 years as of May. We also have a wicked awesome 10 year old son, Christopher. In May of 2013 I accepted a sales position with Combined Insurance.
