“How can I not respond with the gift of my life?”

Australia: Perpetual Profession of Br. Justin Golding

I

n one of the first major calendar events for the new Province of Australia, the Chapel of the Annunciation at St Gregory’s College, Campbelltown, was filled to overflowing on Saturday March 2, as members of the Australian Marist Community gathered to witness and joyfully celebrate the perpetual profession of Brother Justin Golding, FMS. In the presence of his family, Brothers and friends, Brother Justin made his perpetual vows of chastity, poverty and obedience to Br Jeffrey Crowe, FMS, Provincial of Australia and delegate of the Superior General. The profession of vows took place during the celebration of the Eucharist, presided by Father Gary Perritt CP, and assisted by Father Brian Mascord (Diocese of Maitland) and Father Paul McDonald (Diocese of Lismore). Also on hand to witness the event was a large contingent of staff, students and ex-students from Trinity Catholic College Lismore, where Justin has been teaching for the past five years.

After professing his vows and receiving his Marist crucifix, Justin spoke to the congregation of the positive influence of a number of Brothers while a student at St Gregory’s College: “It was the beginning

of an amazing journey that has led me to this very day. A journey where I have encountered numerous Brothers who have inspired me and encouraged me to consider their life as my own.”

Brother Jeffrey took the opportunity to recall the significance of the vocation of the Religious Brother

After thanking his family for their ongoing support, Justin took the opportunity to express his gratitude to those in the Australian Marist Community who were present: “This is such an exciting time in our history and I'm so excited to be a part of all that is to come. I'm deeply inspired by those of you who aren't Brothers, but have been grabbed by our charism and long to live it in the world. Thank you for the witness you bring to those we serve.”

in the life of the Church and within the Marist Community: “The word ‘Brother’ is precious to us and to our identity. It describes not only our relationships within our communities but to people generally, especially to the young people who are at the centre of our mission.”

At the end of the Eucharist, Brother Jeffrey affiliated Justin’s parents, Ken and Jenny Golding, to the Marist Brothers Province of Australia, as a sign of strengthening the Marist family ties.

Contrary to the popular-held belief of Religious Life being a counter cultural choice, Justin shared an alternative perspective through the lens of faith: “When you look at this through my eyes, it seems a very ordinary and normal thing to do …

We congratulate and thank Brother Justin for the generous gift of his life in saying “Yes” as a Marist Brother, and wish him every blessing as he continues to make Jesus Christ known and loved among young people, in the way of Mary and St Marcellin.

Province of “Brasil Centro-Sul” International Course in Marist Administration

I

n partnership with the Institute, the Province of "Brasil Centro-Sul" is conducting, from 18 March to 28 April, the Ist International Course in Marist Administration. During this period, 18 brothers and lay persons from different Provinces of the Marist world will be accomodated at the Marist Centre Marcellin Champagnat, in Curitiba ; they will live in community and share their management methods, while learning more about the subject.

The course, in which Establish-

ment Heads and Directors of Latin America and Spain are taking part, treats of the principal aspects re-

lating to administration, as well as the possibilities of implementing them in the Marist Institutions.

During the 45 days of the course, the participants will take classes in the Business School of PUCPR and visit the Educational Centres of the Province, public organizations and "benchmarking" (evaluation) despartments in several organisations of the State of Paraná. They will also make a visit to the Province of "Rio Grande do Sul"

Directors of Marist works Venezuela: Defense of the rights of children and adolescents

rom 25 February to 3 March, almost sixty persons responded to the call of the XXI General Chapter and our Provincial Chapter : Marists in defense of the rights of children and adolescents !

The work was divided into two parts. For three days (25, 26 and 27 February), the directors of the Marist works of Venezuela met in the Formation House of Los Teques to learn more about the subject.

The work, reflection, and especially the sharing, were extremely enriching. Under the leadership of Prof. Ernesto Durán and Mme Carolina Caicedo, from the National University of Bogotá, we came to a fuller understanding of the rights of children and adolescents as presented by the Convention adopted almost 25 years ago. We benefitted equally from the presence of a team from the Metropolitan University of Caracas which presented

the situation of children in Venezuela and the legal aspects most directly related to it. This meeting resulted in the

serious commitment to work for the rights of children and young people. In the concrete and short term, to support the persons who are going to commence studies for the desired diplomas.

The second part of the work (1, 2 and 3 March) was carried out with the people who work or collaborate in the Marist works of Venezuela and whose interest in the subject has led them to undertake a process of serious formation.

There were thirty of them, teachers, group animators, collaborators in the Marist communities and Marist Brothers. The reflection was based on a similar schema, under the tutelage of the same professors and the Metropolitan University. A serious commitment was taken to work from our houses, with our computers and the human team of each institution present, to create projects of work capable of helping us in the task of the protection, the defense and the guarantee of the rights of children and adolescents.

Rio Grande do Sul: Perpetual Profession of Br. Luciano Barrachini

O

n March 23, after a 16-year journey, Brother Luciano Barrachini professed final vows, thus becoming a member of the Institute in a definitive way, in coincidence with his 33rd birthday. The celebration of his definitive consecration took place in the hall of the Pius XII Marist School, Novo Hamburgo.

A few weeks before consecrating himself as a Marist Brother in a definitive way, brother Luciano mentioned that one of the major inspirations he had to join religious life was the devotion to the Good Mother. A text of the Spiritual Testament of Saint Marcellin Champagnat has been his inspiration and point of reference: “That humility and simplicity may ever be the distinguishing mark of the Little Brothers of Mary; that a tender and filial love for our good Mother never fail you in all the changes of time and circumstance”.

Born in Santa Rosa, son of late Luiz Carlos Barrachini and Nadir da Rosa, he had his first contact with the Marist Congregation in 1995. He is currently Deputy Director of the Saint Marcellin Champagnat School, and collaborates with the Director of the Pius XII Marist School, both in Novo Hamburgo.

He has a BA in Philosophy from the PUCRS, a Bachelor of Theology from the Institute of Theology and Pastoral (ITEPA), in Passo Fundo. He is presently completing a postgraduate degree in Social Management, and attends the 3rd semester of Business Administration at Unisinos, a Jesuit university.

I

t is more than a year since we changed our web site quite a bit. It was not simply a change of image, but also a better organisation of the system as a whole : a change of "platform". Our intention was to construct a web site of the Institute more friendly, more accessible, indeed, more attractive. The objectives were clear and the new technological resources allowed us to achieve this change which went into effect on 8 December 2011.

More than one year has passed since, and the user, who was accustomed to the previous page, has become gradually familiar with the new way of navigating inside the page, of finding the

objects of his interest : news, images, documents…

But it is advisable to make an evaluation of the site, and only the USER, YOU YOURSELF, can tell us if we have succeeded in improving it and how we can make it still better.
