Riziki Hai, meaning “adaptable sustenance,” embodies the market’s role as a dynamic space sustaining the community’s economic and cultural needs. Located in Kisii, Kenya, Daraja Mbili Market serves over 20,000 traders and visitors daily, acting as a vital hub for livelihoods, particularly for women and youth in the informal economy. Despite its importance, the market faces significant challenges, including overcrowding, safety risks, inadequate infrastructure, and limited accessibility. These issues hinder its functionality and growth, yet Daraja Mbili remains essential for fostering economic resilience, cultural exchange, and social connection. Addressing these challenges is critical to preserving its role as a cornerstone of the community.
Riziki Hai is a living representation of the Harvest Cycle, embodying the stages of Anticipation, Grind, and Relief —just as farming moves from preparing the land to nurturing crops and harvesting. This cycle represents the journey of sustenance and growth, shaping the market’s design and user experience. Anticipation symbolizes hope and preparation, seen in the entrance and exhibit areas, where visitors orient themselves before immersing in the market. Grind reflects hard work and resilience, mirrored in the bustling market stalls, where movement and trade capture the energy of a growing season. Relief represents the reward of the harvest, expressed in community and relaxation spaces, where people pause, connect, and celebrate their achievements. By weaving traditional and cultural practices with modern design, Riziki Hai becomes more than a market—it is a space where livelihoods thrive, connections form, and both body and spirit are nourished. Guided by the rhythm of the Harvest Cycle, it fosters continuous growth, resilience, and engagement, shaping a vibrant and dynamic marketplace that reflects the culture, hard work, and daily life of the Kisii community.

The Greenbriar Children’s Center, established in 1949, is a cornerstone of community support in Savannah, GA. Originally founded as the city’s first orphanage for African American children, Greenbriar has evolved into a multifaceted organization that uplifts local families and children through emergency shelter programs, affordable childcare, early learning, family counseling, and community outreach.
This portfolio highlights a collaborative effort between Greenbriar Children’s Center and SCADServe during the Spring 2024 Quarter, where eleven students from six diverse majors worked together to reimagine Greenbriar’s physical spaces.
Building on the success of the Summer 2023 rebranding project, this phase focused on redesigning three of Greenbriar’s five campus buildings. This portfolio highlights one of those buildings, where I served as one of two co-designers. The work on this project was dedicated to creating a space that embodies serenity, safety, and adaptability, empowering visitors while fostering a sense of community resilience.
The design focuses on creating serene and supportive spaces where individuals can escape stress and thrive. Three key concepts guided the project:
Oasis: A warm, welcoming refuge with natural elements and flexible spaces for community engagement.
Growth: A nurturing environment promoting confidence and development through inviting spaces and interactive displays that foster pride and belonging.
Play: A holistic, adaptable setting that supports wellbeing, skill-building, and collaboration.
These ideas were combined into a unified vision: A Haven for Cultivating Community Resilience, blending serenity, growth, and play into spaces that empower individuals and foster connection.
Greenbriar’s target demographic is families throughout Savannah GA, primarily focusing on the Midtown area. Their main campus is located at 3709 Hopkins St in Savannah, which houses their Emergency Shelter and Infant Care Center. In addition to this, a preschool and daycare are located downtown on Tattnall and Bolton Street. Greenbriar is available to help any family in their target area, regardless of age, race, gender, or sexuality.
This educational facility provides a comprehensive and inviting environment tailored to the needs of students, staff, and visitors alike. It features versatile classrooms, and administrative spaces including a director’s office and meeting room, as well as amenities like a breakroom and laundry facilities for staff convenience. Tranquil mindfulness rooms offer moments of relaxation, while communal areas like the lunch room and kitchen facilitate social interaction. Children can enjoy the indoor playroom with adjacent storage. Throughout the building, accessibility is ensured with conveniently located restrooms. This facility fosters a holistic educational experience, promoting learning, well-being, and community engagement.

This new proposal for a co-housing living design promotes inclusivity and the importance of community for artistic individuals. Contributing to developing a healthy living environment that allows artistic individuals to thrive and grow, this modern, affordable housing will offer interactive communal spaces as well as private living spaces.
This portfolio highlights key aspects of the site design, showcasing select elements of the Carriage House and the full design of the Communal Fusion Building, which I led. The Communal Building captures the project’s vision, blending functionality and community engagement, while reflecting my design leadership through all renderings.
The proposed site plan integrates four key structures: the Main Building, Carriage House, Rhythm & Blues space, and the Communal Fusion Building. These buildings are thoughtfully arranged around a central monumental fountain, serving as the focal point of the design and enhancing the site’s visual appeal. The plan includes 41 parking spaces and well-connected sidewalks to ensure accessibility and ease of navigation for visitors. A designated area for a small farmers market adds a dynamic community element, encouraging local engagement and interaction. The overall design creates a functional, vibrant, and inviting environment that balances practicality with a sense of place.
Inspired by Ardsley Park’s community and eclecticism, this concept combines classic charm with vernacular influences. Using natural materials, warm textures, and organic forms, it creates authentic, vibrant spaces that foster a sense of local connection and community. The design reimagines co-housing by blending modern facades with classic elements, creating a harmonious blend of past and present.
