RG&E Awards $25,000 to Rochester Startup Little Black Buddha

Grant will enable career services software develpment to support skill cultivation in underserved communities RG&E announced it has awarded a $25,000 economic development grant to Rochesterbased startup Little Black Buddha (LBB), a black- and womanowned career services software company.

The funding will support the company’s efforts to develop a new software to assist job candidates with moving between industries as the job market demands fluctuate and change. The grant is part of RG&E’s Innovation Zone - Ignition Grant Program, one of the company’s many economic development funding assistance programs.

LBB is a career services and software development company that helps individuals determine their next major career move. The company’s software under development will help job candidates assess and develop their innate talents and skills to help them become more adaptable and desirable candidates in the job marketplace.

“I’m grateful to RG&E for believing in the potential of LBB to make an impactful change in our community,” said Ahlia Kitwana, LBB owner and founder. “LBB’s focus is to support those in our community who have been overlooked and underserved in the past. There is a large population of our community that needs help nurturing and growing their potential. Our services will be that resource and help people develop skills that will allow them to thrive.”

RG&E’s Innovation Zone - Ignition Grant Program is designed to spur development of high growth potential business by awarding funds to early stage startup businesses.

Youth Soccer Clinics Will Take Place at Tyshaun Cauldwell R-Center for Hope The City of Rochester’s Department of Recreation and Youth Services, in partnership with Rochester City Soccer, will host a series of soccer clinics at the Tyshaun Cauldwell R-Center for Hope, 524 Campbell St., for youth who are high school age and younger. The clinics will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning November 10 through December 17.

The soccer clinics are designed to provide youth ages 5 and up with training in a variety of skills, including dribbling, fast footwork, 1-on-1 moves, passing and receiving. Participants will also learn the importance of sportsmanship, leadership, training, teamwork, communication, confidence, hard work and responsibility.

Clinics will be arranged by age groups and will take place at the following times: Tuesdays 6 -7 p.m. Ages 11-13 7 - 8 p.m. Ages 14 - 16 and 17 - 19 Thursdays 6 – 7 p.m. Ages 5 – 7 7 – 8 p.m. Ages 8 – 10 All of the soccer clinics are free and open to the public for both boys and girls. Bills Crush Seahawks 44 – 34 Bills QB Josh Allen is starting to show he can elevate his game against poor defensive teams. Josh must continue to be accurate and improve against the best defensive teams in the league. It's obvious he has come a long way in three short years in accuracy and self confidence, allowing him to use the techniques taught to him. His footwork and throwing motion have changed for the better and must continue once pressure is put on him.

The Seahawks did not put much pressure at all or cover Bills receivers throughout the game.It was the worst defense I’ve ever seen from a 6 – 1

team. The good news is the Bills continue to play suspect defensive teams in the coming weeks and the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins are the only teams left on schedule that have dominating defenses.

The Bills will have an opportunity to rack up several wins in the coming weeks.

Bills offensive lineman Jon Feliciano is a difference maker on the line and hopefully depth won’t become a problem since the sudden release of Quinton Spain. Bills Defensive Coordinator Leslie Frazier had his unit gamble more by using various blitz packages forcing Seahawks QB Russell Wilson to get rid of the ball quickly and hit him an NFL season high 16 times. That led to turnovers and Tre Davis White getting the first interception of season and a forced fumble by Jerry Hughes led to a White recovery. The Bills defense must force their will on upcoming opponents which can lead to more turnovers.

Bills safety Jordan Poyer had a very strong game including his first interception

of the season. The Bills embattled line backer AJ Klein had two sacks and one of them was a strip sack leading to a Bills field goal. The Bills have several veteran players over 30 years old on defense and they can be more reliable because they know their assignments better in a very aggressive defensive scheme.

This could bode well for them as the Bills face quick throwing Kyler Murray to future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald, and DeAndre Hopkins will be a formidable challenge for them in the desert. I see Bills defense being able to slow them down, while Josh Allen and his crew will have time to make plays; especially with Rochester, NY native and Arizona Cardinals best pass rusher Chandler Jones done for the season with a torn pectoral muscle. As I’ve said before, today’s football players are too bulked up with muscles and less body fat. These guys need more body fat instead of mostly muscles, and this is

why so many players are getting torn biceps and pectoral muscles almost completely torn off the bone. Yes, it’s a very painful injury that you really can’t play with and Bills outside linebacker Matt Milano is another example of this injury. You can still play at a high level without massive muscles. Did anyone see Seahawks receiver D.K. Metcalf warming up before game; massive muscles looking like a Superhero! We will see with so many muscle injuries , whether or not training regimens might be more of a balance between muscles and body fat.

I see the Bills beating a depleted secondary of Arizona Cardinals 31 – 24. I see both teams having an outstanding offensive attack; with the Bills defense starting out getting key turnovers which might be enough to carry them to the playoffs and becoming a serious contender.

Biden Wins Big in City of Buffalo According to data from the Erie County Board of Elections Channel 7 reports that President elect Joe Biden won the City of Buffalo with 77% of the vote to President Trump’s 21%. He also won Amherst with 54% and the Town of Tonawanda with 54% of the vote.

President Trump won Clarence with 59% of the vote; Hamburg with 54%; Lancaster with 59%; and West Seneca with 53%. Trump and Biden were tie in Cheektowaga , each with 49% of the vote.

Umoja to Host “Person of the Year” 20th Anniversary Celebration UMOJA Inc. will host its “Person of the Year” 20th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, November 15 from 5-10 p.m. at the CAO Rafi Greene Center 1423 Fillmore Avenue.

ne of the last projects the iconic Herb Bellamy Sr. created before his passing in 2006 was a Black History Museum on the 2nd floor of 1490 Enterprises, recalled his son Herb Jr. Last Wednesday, Nov. 4, a beautifully expanded version of that vision was dedicated to the memory of the late Mr. Bellamy, “the Greatest Achiever” during a ribbon cutting to mark the grand opening of the Buffalo Black Achievers Museum RIBBON CUTTING: Pictured from left: Senator Tim Kennedy, Mayor Byron Brown, Herb Bellamy Jr., Lt. Among the dignitaries who participated in the ceremony was Lt. Gov. Kathy,Hochul, State Senator Tim Kennedy, Mayor Byron Brown and Pastor Arthur Boyd of 2nd Chance Ministries.

Mayor Brown called the opening of the Black Achievers Museum an example of the “great progress for East Side of Buffalo, of the City of Buffalo and for all of Western New York.”

He thanked Herbert Bellamy Jr., Governor Cuomo, Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, Senator Kennedy and Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes for providing state resources for the facility.

The mayor, who was a Black Achiever awardee in 1989, additionally praised Herb. Jr. for not only carrying on his father’s legacy but taking it “ to a new level for a new time for a new people.”

The Buffalo Black Achievers Museum features touch screen monitors and interactive exhibitions to highlight and educate visitors about achievements and contributions of African-American community members. It spotlights these achievers through photography, text panels, streaming video and three-dimensional artifacts. The museum also features a founder's room, media room/theatre and a Wall of Achievers with informational exhibits and panels representing every decade dating back to the 1970s. It stands at the spot where Bellamy Sr. founded 1490 enterprises, a nonprofit community center described by Mayor Brown as "one of the most vibrant, visited human services agencies in all of Western New York."

The Buffalo Black Achievers Museum is open Saturdays from 11 am. to 4 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students and free for youths 5 and under. The museum follows public health and safety standards and will have limited hours due to COVID-19. For more information, call 716-884-1490.

"It would have been great if we could have invited our sponsors, achievers and the general public to the ribbon cutting ceremony, but we were unable to do so due the NYS Museum Guidelines and our concern for public safety in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic."

He continued: “Equally as important to our continued success are the contributions and support we receive from our faith community and elected officials.

“Our founder’s vision and teachings continues to surpass our expectations and imagination! In addition his legacy continues to impact many Black American lives in Buffalo and around the world every day. To God be the glory for the best is still yet to come for us!"

The museum was made possible in large part to a $200,000 grant as part of Governor Cuomo's $50 million East Side Corridor Economic Development Fund, a Buffalo Billion initiative.

Yaa Asantewaa

"If you the men of Ashanti will not go forward, then we will. We the women will. I shall call upon you my fellow women. We will fight the white men. We will fight until the last of us falls in the battlefield."

Yaa Asantewaa was the queen mother of the Edweso tribe of the Asante (Ashanti) in what is modern Ghana. She was an exceptionally brave fighter who, in March 1900, raised and led an army of thousands against the British colonial forces in Ghana and their efforts to subjugate the Asante and seize the Golden Stool, the Asante nation’s spiritual symbol of unity and sovereignty.

Yaa Asantewaa mobilized the Asante troops and for three months laid siege to the British fort of Kumasi.

The British colonizers had to bring in several thousand troops and artillery to break the siege, exiling Queen Yaa Asantewaa and 15 of her closest advisers to the Seychelles. She lived in exile until her death in October 1921. Yaa Asantewaa’s War, as it is presently known in Ghana, was one of the last major wars on the continent of Africa to be led by a woman.

Buffalo, Parts of Erie County Under New COVID Guideline In a Monday morning conference call, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he is placing parts of Erie County into his micro-cluster action initiative “yellow zone.”

In addition to the City of Buffalo, the affected areas include Clarence, Lancaster, Elma, Aurora, Amherst, Cheektowaga, West Seneca, Orchard Park, Tonawanda, Lackawanna, Hamburg and Grand Island.

In a “yellow zone” or “precautionary zone”: √ Houses of worship are limited to 50% capacity. √ Mass gatherings are 25 people maximum, indoor or outdoor. √ Businesses remain open. √ Indoor and outdoor dining is restricted to four persons maximum per table. Bars and restaurants must close at midnight. √ Schools are open, but with mandatory weekly testing of 20% of students and teachers/staff for in-person settings.

Erie County was among the state leaders last week in total number of new coronavirus infections. On Friday, the Department of Health confirmed 385 new coronavirus cases.

That was the highest daily case total among residents since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and exceeded the previous high total of 277 new cases set on May 4.

Western New York also was tops in percentage of new cases, at 4.3% Friday and 4.8% Saturday. Per New York state reporting, Erie County hit 5.8% Saturday (271 positives among 4,678 tested). The ECDOH stated the rate was above 6%.

James Harmon “Jimi” Lyons, Jr. Talented Visionary Creator, Producer and Director

J

ames Harmon “Jimi” Lyons Jr., the son of Buffalo’s first full-time African American disc jockey, the legendary James Harmon “Jimi” Lyons, Sr. and Ruth Frink Lyons, made his transition on October 15 in San Antonio, Texas.

A talented visionary creator, producer and director, Jimi was 70 years young.

He grew up on Northland Avenue in a home filled with music, laughter, lively family banter and most importantly, love. His parents cultivated a nurturing environment for him and his three sisters, JoAnne, Gail and Gwen - that honored education and encouraged their development as visual and performing artists.

However it was the purchase his parents made in the early 1960’s of an 8mm Bell & Howell camera, projector and screen that unleashed a passion in Jamie that grew and strengthened with each year of his life; opening a world of creativity that he explored and refined for decades. He began shooting, splicing and editing films before he was 14 years old.

During his Bennett High School days, his moniker changed from Jamie to Jimi.

His future as a visionary creator, producer and director was cemented while attending Temple University in Philadelphia.

He was the recipient of many honors including the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame Award.

Jimi had an indomitable spirit. He was not a glass half-full or a glass half-empty kind of guy. His glass was always overflowing!

He leaves to cherish his beloved memory, his sisters JoAnne and Gail, his uncles, aunts, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews throughout the U.S.A. and in Mexico; his SGI family (Jimi was a devout, practic-

ing Buddhist for more than four decades); his beloved partner, Gina, and many friends as he joins his parents, Sister Gwen and ancestors in another dimension.

Scriptures to Prepare Your Heart for Thanksgiving

•Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Anxiety might be one of the biggest things that detracts us from a heart of thanks. When the heart is full of concern, uneasy feelings, and worry about the future, it is difficult to hash through the struggle to see all we have to be thankful for. Perhaps this is one of the reasons the Bible reminds us to first not be anxious about anything, for then the heart is prepared for giving thanks.

• Psalm 28:7 “The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.”

Until the heart is surrendered to the Savior, offering up praise and thanks will be difficult.

But when the heart fully and completely trusts in the Lord, it’s well conditioned to lift and magnify God. This is when the heart sings, the mind is free, and life feels better. When we trust the Lord in all things, we recognize Him helping us through all things.

•Lamentations 3:22-23 “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning: great is your faithfulness.”

Here in the Old Testament we find a nugget of truth tucked into a book full of grief. The beautiful reminder we hold is that even in the darkest of times, even in the hardest of circumstances, God’s love doesn’t stop. His faithfulness doesn’t pause. Every single day we wake up, there is fresh mercy ready to be received. So we say, “Thank you, Lord!”

lack Panther’s conspicuous debut in Captain America: Civil War was an exciting confirmation for local socialite DQ Grant and community activist John Washington, that their favorite comic book superhero would finally get his story on the big screen. Before the cultural explosion that resulted from Marvel’s Black Panther film, both Grant and Washington were long-time comic book readers who took pride in pushing Black art and entertainment forward.

Already spearheading Afrofuturist collective Panthfrica, DQ partnered with John and many other creatives in Buffalo to celebrate the premiere of Black Panther.

Selling out theatres, hosting art exhibitions, and conducting multi-media workshops across the city, the duo recognized the unifying power of the film, especially among youth. Building an educational framework for children based on the Black Panther comic books, DQ and John created what would soon become The Wakanda Alliance Program.

“We want to inspire the youth. We want kids to be able to be kids again,” mentioned DQ Grant.

The success of the duo’s initial Black Panther-centered events was in part by their significant connections. Working with influential, high profile artists like Edreys Wajed and Drea D’nur to community leaders like Geovaira Hernandez, they were able to bring different groups of people together. With that said, the early brainstorming stages of the Wakanda Alliance Program brought in eager, recur-

“We have lives, we have different businesses, jobs and kids and family and so really we try to move together in a way where we try to fit each other's weaknesses...and hopefully not only does it lead to the freedom of our community but also ourselves,” mentioned Da’Von McCune.

To many, Wakanda is the physical manifestation of Afrofuturism. It reimagines the African diaspora, history, and culture as a prime catalyst for developing bright, technological societies. Coined in the early ’90s, Afrofuturism was a movement that encouraged Black Americans to broaden their horizons and reimagine Black modernity. Considering that Black Panther comics were created and introduced in a Civil Rights-era America, Afrofuturism also challenges the socio-political tendencies of first-world countries and the often understated contributions of Black people.

“How often as black people do we think unapologetically; And without the context of what’s happening right nowthinking about our future?

What does the future look like for black people in 100 years? ” explained John Washington.

as the foundation for their workshops, The Wakanda Alliance strives to provide an imaginative, yet holistic

experience of Afrofuturism.

Working with professors, ecologists, and environmental justice leaders for the program, the group is not only focused on reimagining blackness but providing a progressive perspective to current issues in our world Touching on topics of trauma, mental health, climate change, and equality, the Wakanda Alliance uses the trials of Black Panther to educate youth on solutions.

“Children are our present and our future, and I believe that wholeheartedly right now… Ever since the founding of our country, there have been teenagers who have fought up and offered their rights that we have no idea about. Every time they give our heroes, they give us the George Washingtons, Abraham Lincolns, and Martin Luther and Malcolm X and Harriet Tubman, which what do they all have in common?

They’re all adults...That is the trick. That is the lie,” explained Da’Von McCune.

n November 7, 2020 at 10a.m. the Cemetery and Foundation Board Members of the Historic Concordia Cemetery located at 438 Walden Avenue hosted a Veterans Day Program.

Foundation Board President Diane Pesch-Savatteri welcomed all in attendance which included telling the History of the Historic Concordia Cemetery. Foundation Board Member Claudette Rogers said a Prayer and AMVETS Post 24 post member Andy Finley played TAPS on his bugle at the end of the ceremony in honor of the brave men and women that served this country!

District 1 Erie County Legislator Howard J. Johnson Jr. also a military Veteran and Fillmore District Council Member Mitchell P. Nowakowski participated in the ceremony along with Scoutmaster Randy Siejak and members of Saint John Kanty Church's Boy Scout Troop 104 by placing United States Flags on the graves of the soldiers that served in the various wars honoring the veterans for Veterans Day. Proud family members of veterans interred at the cemetery were able to place a United States Flag on the graves of their loved ones. Some family members while placing the flags did so with tears in their eyes. Members of the Johnetta R. Cole AMVETS Post No. 24 also proudly placed a United States Flag at the grave of Johnetta R. Cole, the post’s name sake. Due to the Covid-19 virus social distancing was in place and face masks were worn.

The lovely young ladies, the initiates, dressed in African attire, participated in an African pre-adulthood ritual. Their parents ceremoniously presented them to the community with maternal-daughter expressions and gifts.

The 2020 initiates are: Timesha Austin (Andriertte) Theresa Banks (Mara) Kamya Cox (Ziemba) Kierra Cox (Ziemba) Camryn Davis (Arjana) Kendell Jelks (Audre) Na'Kya McCann (Alika) Sydney Robinson (Safara) and Angela Samuel (Malaika).

The virtual evening included AKA participants: the elder Patricia Baxter, Libation Giver Elayne Foster, special poem Sydney Johnson, Nija Libation by Tracy N. Garner , SABUTI Dance Performance by the initiates, directed by Janet Barnes and Instrumental Solo Joel Nicholas.

Janet Barnes was chairman for the Rites of Passage. Other committee participants were: Lori Adams-Mabry, Rev. Lillian Davis-Wilson, Sharon Amos, Josephine Cross, Hattie McCarley, Juanita Hunter, Denise Cobbs, and Carolyn Malone. Ottilie M. Woodruff and Teena M. Jones are respectively President and Vice-president.

Update On Nation’s First African American Veterans Monument

n Wednesday, Nov. 11, Americans everywhere paused to observe Veterans Day. This year, the African American Veterans Monument Committee celebrated Veterans Day quietly reflecting on the sacrifices made by African American Veterans while continuing to advance the Monument’s construction despite unpredicted challenges and setbacks.

As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, administrative delays have caused the construction schedule and dedication of the Monument to be pushed back to 2021. However, the Committee recently learned that New York State’s Finance Committee approved the release of construction funds that will be released once the New York State Dormitory Authority (DASNY) operations resume; a promising step forward.

“We’re still moving forward,” said Warren Galloway, chair of the African American Veterans Monument Committee. “Our plans for 2020 were dramatically shifted because of COVID-19, but we are confident about the Monument’s construction. Our committee has met virtually since March and are wholeheartedly working to make our vision a reality for so many deserving servicemen and women.”

The Monument will be located at the Buffalo & Erie County Naval and Military Park in Buffalo and will recognize the contributions of African Americans who have served and are currently serving in all five branches of the military, during war and in peace times. African Americans have fought in all 12 of the United States’ military conflicts, beginning with the Revolutionary War in 1775.

To date, approximately $1.6 million has been raised for the project, with significant donations from New York State, Erie County, the City of Buffalo and countless community-based organizations and corporate sponsors.

A committee of African American Veterans and historians have led the planning for the African American Veterans Monument with the support and convening of the office of New York State Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes.

“The American people have chosen decency over dysfunction, fact over fiction, truth over lies and empathy over cruelty. .. opportunities … lie ahead for America – from fixing a broken healthcare system, to repairing global alliances, to addressing wealth inequality and corrosive racial bias. " The above quote was part of a promo to urge readers to support an international news outlet. But it could not have been more on point and more truthful in regards to America’s current state of affairs in the wake of a presidential election that will be remembered as one of the most crucial in history, and the pivotal role the Black vote played in its outcome.

Black people voted for President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris in record numbers, leading America in the winning direction; proof that the power of the Black vote is undeniable.

For starters, Mr. Biden would not have even won the democratic nomination to run for president had it not been for Majority Whip Rep. Clyburn of South Carolina, the most powerful and influential Black politician in the state, who gave Biden his endorsement. The result, Black South Carolinians gave Biden a massive landslide victory that made him the consensus nominee. Then Clyburn went a step further and privately urged Biden to pick a Black woman as his running mate. Biden ultimately choose Harris.

-The Abrams FactorThen there was the Abrams factor. One columnist wrote - “Joe Biden can thank Stacey Abrams for his lead in Georgia.”

As Georgia still counts ballots to determine if Joe Biden or Donald Trump wins the state, Biden has the lead, flipping Georgia to possibly turn blue for the first time in nearly three decades. A major reason for the shift has to do with former state representative and voting rights advocate Abrams who started the movement to turn Georgia into a blue state.

After her failed bid for governor in 2018, Abrams formed the nonprofit Fair Fight to help combat voter suppression within Georgia and increase voter registration in marginalized communities, moves that made the state potentially lean more Democratic, giving Biden an edge.

-The Black Vote: Giving Credit Where Credit is DueWhile a projected 161 million Americans voted in the 2020 presidential election, more than at any other time in American history, Black voters are “taking a well earned victory lap,” having led Biden and Harris to victory. Early exit polls estimate that 91% of African American women voted for Biden and Harris. Black men gave them 80% of their votes…. again, ushering the Biden-Harris ticket to an historic win.

Can Court Challenges to the Vote Count Flip the Election and Make Trump the Winner?

Some Democratic voters are nervous — and some Republican voters, are hopeful —that somehow court challenges to the vote count will make President Trump the winner.

According to Amber Phillips of The Washington Post, that is highly unlikely. Why? She writes: •The Trump campaign is running out of time to stop ballots from being counted and so far hasn’t succeeded in any court case to do so. Even if they did stop counting, it’s not clear what they’d get out of it. Even without the few outstanding states, Biden has already won the 270 electoral votes needed.

•The Trump campaign has yet to provide evidence of fraud to overturn results. And they have shared no evidence of the kind of widespread fraud that would overturn an election by tens of thousands of votes in several states. That’s what they’d need to prove to win, and proving it would mean they’ve uncovered a historic, unprecedented level of corruption in America.

•A recount is expected in at least Georgia, possibly the closest state of all, where Biden is leading by almost 10,700 votes (at this writing). There could be other recounts. But recounts typically change hundreds of votes, not thousands.

NOTE: The New York Times reported this week that it called election officials in every state. The result - no irregularities or evidence of the president and his allies baseless false claims of Voter Fraud that affected the election outcome.

Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors sent a letter to President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris calling for the development of a “fully resourced” agenda that addresses the challenges Black people face.In the letter dated Nov. 7, Cullors called for a meeting with Biden and Harris to discuss the administration’s commitment to Black people, noting that, although Donald Trump’s demise is to be celebrated, it does not guarantee that conditions facing Black people will improve. Her letter follows: Dear President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-Elect Kamala Harris: Congratulations on your election to the Presidency and VicePresidency of the United states. Like so many, we are relieved that the Trump era in government is coming to a close.

As we celebrate his electoral demise, we also know that his political exit does not ensure an end to the intolerable conditions faced by Black people in America. A well-thought out, community-driven, fully resourced agenda that addresses the particular challenges faced by Black people must be a top priority. We are requesting a meeting with you both to discuss the expectations that we have for your administration and the commitments that must be made to Black people.

Without the resounding support of Black people, we would be saddled with a very different electoral outcome. In short, Black people won this election. Alongside Black-led organizations around the nation, Black lives Matter invested heavily in this election. ·vote and Organize• became our motto, and our electoral justice efforts reached more than 60 million voters. We want something for our vote.

We want to be heard and our agenda to be prioritized. We issue these expectations not just because Black people are the most consistent and reliable voters for Democrats, but also because Black people are truly living in crisis in a nation that was built on our subjugation. Up until this point, the United states has refused to directly reckon with the way that it devalues Black people and devastates our lives. This cannot continue. Black people can neither afford to live through the vitriol of a Trump-like Presidency, nor through the indifference of a Democrat-controlled government that refuses to wrestle with its most egregious and damnable shame.

President-Elect Biden and Vice-President-Elect Harris: both of you discussed addressing systemic racism as central to your election campaigns. Both of you also expressed regrets regarding your record on issues impacting Black people.

The best way to ensure that you remedy past missteps and work towards a more just future for Black people-and by extension all people-is to take your direction from Black grassroots organizers that have been engaged in this work for decades, with a legacy that spans back to the first arrival of enslaved Africans.

We look forward to meeting with you at your convenience to begin the immediate work of Black liberation. We would like to be actively engaged in your Transition Team's planning and policy work. Again, congratulations on your win.

Morgan Chase, will host “Road to Wealth,” a virtual event to provide resources and information about funding and 1-on-1 coaching opportunities for small businesses on November 19 at 3:00 pm. Officials Name New Road in Florida After Trayvon Martin

MIAMI— A section of road that leads to the South Florida high school that Trayvon Martin attended now bears the name of the Black teenager whose 2012 death sparked a movement for social justice.

The road became Trayvon Martin Avenue during a brief ceremony near Dr. Michael K. Krop Senior High, where the teen was in 11th grade when he was killed at age 17 in Central Florida in 2012. He was unarmed and walking back from a convenience store.

George Zimmerman’s acquittal under Florida’s selfdefense law in July 2013 sparked the Black Lives Matter movement.

Tim Kennedy, D-Buffalo, in cutting the ribbon in front of the exit to the platform of the new downtown $28 million Amtrak train station on Exchange Street recently. During the early planning stages there was a huge push by residents and some political figures to have the new station built on the site of the old Central Terminal on the East Side. The old Exchange Street station which was built in 1952 was torn down last August.

MBE/WBE PROJECT REQUIREMENTS: It is the policy of the New York State Department of Health to encourage Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprise participation in this project by contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers and all bidders are expected to cooperate in implementing this policy. The selected prime contractors must comply with the M/WBE goals and submit an acceptable MWBE Utilization plan reflective of this goal.
