Chalgrove Airfield
What’s been happening? EbD preparation The HCA team has spent the last few months learning about this part of South Oxfordshire and developing our understanding of Chalgrove village and the surrounding area. We have heard from a number of local stakeholders about the facilities in the village, local businesses and local education provision. Business
Education
We have been talking to local businesses about the proposals and looking at where people are employed in the district. We have found that an improved public transport system is important to occupiers of business premises as this allows for a greater catchment to have access to the employment opportunities. We also heard that delivering high speed broadband infrastructure should be a critical part of future development.
At the centre of a proposal for Chalgrove Airfield will be getting the right community infrastructure in place early in the development. To understand more about local education needs, we have been talking to Icknield College, Chalgrove Primary School and Oxfordshire County Council about the types of education that could be provided on the Airfield site. This will be discussed further at the Enquiry by Design event in January.
Conversations have also started with the Local Enterprise Partnership about Community Employment Plans, which would explore ways to create local employment opportunities and build skills to support employment growth throughout the construction of a development and following its completion.
Students at Icknield College explained their journeys to school, what was important for them living in the area and drew ideas for the airfield.
Technical studies
Technical studies are being finalised in advance of the Enquiry by Design event. These studies look at: - Flooding and drainage - Ground conditions - Trees - Archaeology - Visual assessment - Ecology - Transport infrastructure A briefing pack with this technical information and plans will be issued in early January before the EbD.
