Instructor | Klaas Kresse What type of city will be born in the future when autonomous driving technology is deeply permeated into us? The development of autonomous driving technology allows us to envision a future in which ‘space’ moves beyond automobiles. With the development of digital technology, we are experiencing firsthand that most things are possible even if we are not in a specific space. If a new city is born with this background, what form and logic will it be created in? This project designs the logic and proposes an example that will result from it. “What platform will the city of the future provide for people? We start by building the ground up, leaving the existing ones as they are.”

Until now, cars have been used only as a transportation.

However, as autonomous driving technology expands, it is possible to imagine a space where various possibilities can occur for cars rather than moving. (It will no longer be called a car.) While on the move, you can sleep, eat, and shop. This means that autonomous driving “technolog y ” becomes an element of the city. In other words, it is possible to move the space where you can act. This makes things that we thought couldn't move within the city can move.

Change of Existing City

STEP 1 With the development of autonomous driving technology, new ‘moving spaces’ appear. Yet they only move on the ground.

STEP 2 Due to the advantage of “flexibility,” buildings change so that the spaces within them can move. This creates a lift that transports PODs to each floor.

STEP 3 ‘Connectivity’ is the most important thing for PODs to move according to changes in urban space. Accordingly, a bridge connecting the POD and the POD is created on the ground floor.

STEP 4 As buildings build bridges according to their needs, the bridges form urban spaces in more diverse forms.

STEP 5 Various types of bridges are no longer a straight path. They expand wider, and they connect to other bridges to create new land.

Programs of Pedestrian Layer

Charging Station

A charging station is a place that becomes the base of a city, from which the city begins.

Pedestrian Layer It is a layer only for people, not a pod, and the form was taken from nature.

Therefore, it looks like terrain.

Promenade

The promenade is a porous shape, allowing people to experience a long movement. It's a world that can only be moved by pods, but it's built to give people an exciting experience of the road. For smooth movement, it has the same slope as flat ground, and is connected to major nodes and programs.

Shortcuts

It is a shortcut that connects each point of the Ring, and since the slope is steep and inconvenient to move, an automatic movement device is used.

The middle node is the point where both the shortcut and the promenade meet, and it becomes a place where small units of people gather.

Programs and Green The upper part of the ring is green, and the lower part contains programs.

All the internals are connected and the necessary programs are included according to the size of the volume.

It is a platform that pods go around and settle, where people and pods coexist. In contrast to the pedestrian layer, it has a flat platform.

Platform Designer

Just as there are urban designers in the current city, there are platform designers who design pod layers in this city, and when a new platform is formed, they plan the location and size of the void, and the shape of the platform.

Shape and 3D Printer

Since the shape of the void and the overall shape of the layer are made with a 3D printer, the shape does not need to be a square or a circle, and it can have an organic shape, or a symmetrical, straight shape. This organic shape is an example of a city.

Lift

It is a lift that is one of the vertical circulations of pod. This circulation is used when moving many floors.

It is a spiral ramp that is one of the vertical circulations of pod. Each floor is connected.

Pods use electricity, so there are charging stations wherever you go,like these days. However, unlike now, it occupies a more impor tant point. Bec ause, if the current gas station is one of the points you can hear on the way to the destination, the charging station after wards is like a base while walking around.Pods that have been around f o r a l on g t i m e go t o t h e c h a r g i n g s t a t i on i n e ac h re gion to charge. This is the starting point for a new city.

It exists as a base for not only charging Pods, but also for people to take a break and meet other people. Finally, it becomes a structure for fixing the subsequent platforms.

Currently, in most apartment complexes, there is a lack of communication to the extent that you do not know who lives next door. This promotes human alienation and shows the contradictory image of a society where we live together. To this end, we introduce a space for everyday encounters in the direction of promoting the community. The daily encounter space becomes the roof, which is the key point of this design. Through the expansion of the Slavs to see the whole, people freely walk and talk in this place. The extension of the road to the roof allows a wider view and you can feel another charm different from the monotonous space of everyday life. Through the 'extension of the road', the building becomes a single town or village, and residents can walk around the town. Neighborhoods that are connected as one unite the residents. In addition, the main community facilities within the complex are extended to the roof of the building to secure physical space for the community and open space, and also to improve the quality. In addition, this space presents people with a different perspective. Through unusual stepping on the roof, people have a new experience, which expands the field of vision for residents or outsiders.

In the master plan divided into 4 parts, he was in charge of the part in contact with Geumnam Market. It faces Geumnam Market to the south, a large road crossing the master plan and community facilities to the north, and a high-rise apartment complex to the west across the road.

It is also in a position where mass on a human scale is required rather than a huge mass that crosses in front of the eyes when approaching Geumnam Market. Therefore, the highest height of the mass was planned to be 4 stories. This site is lively because it faces a rather noisy market, but it is a place where privacy is required due to the large influx of people. Accordingly, the mass was lifted up one level, and the part of the ground connected to everyone, while at the same time planning a personal route that could lead to each individual's residence. Accordingly, residents or outsiders can enjoy this space together, but their approach and utilization are different.

Landscapes

The rooftop is the main promenade and circulation of the residents. This place is particularly characterized by a lot of green space, and it was designed so that residents can experience nature in the city while walking around. The basic path is planned with a geometry similar to the unit, and everyone can meet along this path. The surrounding area is green, and the floor space of the void is made of green, so it looks like the entire site is green from an aerial view. D ue to the continuous fine dust and air pollution, people are more inclined to seek green spaces in the city. On this axis, residents living in this communal dwelling can fully enjoy the green space in their own homes.

Facade

Kepler's Fractals The units are surrounded by a void, and the pattern was d e s i g n e d s o t h a t t h e m a i n ro o m s c a n re c e i v e s u n l i g h t and light in consideration of the residential environment.

Because this project utilized the entire site, it was necessar y to create a repeating pattern, which had to be put t o ge t h e r l i k e a p u z z l e. T h e re f o re, K e p l e r ' s f r ac t a l w a s used to make the units infinitely expandable. The large unit surrounding the void was planned to have windows (facing to the void) on all sides, and flexible deformations were made within it to satisfy the three size units given the conditions given dur ing architectural design.

The façade of ‘ Walking on the sky’ is basically a curtain wall str ucture. D ue to the beam structure, the facade of the building is free, and the whole is planned as a window, and a louver is inserted as an architectural element instead. The louver is composed of a width of 30cm, and it is characterized by a three-dimensional moving louver, not a fixed louver. Residents can create a three-dimensional space by a d j u s t i n g l i g h t i n g a n d pr ivac y according to their needs. In addition, the window is a window that cannot be opened and c losed by default, but an Awning W indow is installed at a medium height. In addition, the louver changes ever y hour according to the user.

A s a re s u l t , t h e e l e v a t i o n becomes three-dimensional and has the effect of bec om i n g v a r i e t y. I t w i l l b e a different sight for those who have always looked at the same facade, and it will give a different shock to the current apartment in Korea, which is criticized for being a matchbox apartment.

Avoiding the existing wall-type structure, this communal dwelling consisting of a beam structure provides the residents with a basic frame of residence. In this space, when residents move in, they individually design the interior according to their economic situation, the number of family members, and their tastes. The space designed by residents extends beyond the existing design elements of interior design to partitioning rooms. Such In the process, residents can design plans that suit their tastes, and they feel affection for their place of living. In addition, the noise between floors, which is a major problem in apartments, is expected to be resolved to some extent through the beam structure.

Therefore, in the case of this shared residence, the beam structure is expanded to the entire household beyond the existing mix of beam and wall structures or wall structures.

Instructor | Chang soo Ryu Poetry and music are closely related. The resemblance between poetry and music has long been debated since the ancient Greek philosophers Plato and Aristotle argued that music depends on language because melody and rhythm depend on language. According to the theme of poetry and music library, it is not only a place to read books, but also a space where you can listen, touch, see, and enjoy them through various types of information delivery elements such as books, music, and sheet music. The interior space composition is characterized by creating a more open feeling by visually connecting each space using the mismatch of floors and voids. A characteristic of poetry and music is that the length of the content is short.

The purpose is to increase accessibility so that you can sit for a long time or listen to a poem or a song while passing by.

Design Concepts The access road approached from level 25, the main entrance, is composed of a gentle ramp, and it gives the feeling of foreseeing the entrance from afar, and the urgency of the space and the direction of the user by gradual adjustment of the surrounding mass. The rapid urbanization of Seoul, which began in the 1950s, led to Panjachons in the former Seoul. The Panjachon was not a proper dwelling, but a poor dwelling made of materials available in the vicinity, and it was difficult to cope with fire and flooding, and even life was not easy in it. Here, we assume how the architects would react if they intervened. We uncover the strategies with which citizens have been provided refuge in the past. We took these as inspiration for the design of refuges that are appropriate today.

Urbanization of Seoul Since liberation, Seoul’s population has suddenly increased. However, people had to leave Seoul again because of the Korean War. Unlike the North Korea’s first occupation, about a million people fled during North Korea’s second occupation of Seoul. When the war ended, people returned to Seoul, and people began to build shanty houses on hills and riversides. As the scale grew, unauthorized shanty towns were formed. The government implemented various policies to eliminate these unauthorized shanty towns, such as the construction of citizen apartments, the formation of substitute housing, and the slum improvement and legalization.After the 1960s, Pyeonghwa Market and Sewoon Sangga were built under the Cheonggyecheon covering project, and Guro Industrial Complex was also established to develop Korea’s exports and industries. With more jobs, people began to flock to Seoul. The government tried to develop Gangnam and further create newtowns to house people, especially those driven to the shanty towns in Gangbuk area, north of the Han river.

Elements of Panjajib Rooms

Because of cramped space,they mostly use sliding doors.

He is making something. Panjajib people are doing additional works like folding boxes, making dolls etc. Because they always suffer from income deficit. So, they have to more work to earn money.

‘ondoll’system heats the floor, so they sit right on the floor.

Instead of a bed, they used bedding that can be folded and spread whenever they wanted.

When they come into their room, they have to take off their shoes.

It called ‘MARU’. Because they use ‘ondoll’system, Panjajib are raised above the ground. That’s why the ‘MARU’exists.

Kitchen

They mainly used briquettes, which served as both cooking and heating.

One kitchen was owned by each household or shared by several households.

There is no refrigerator.

The water needed for life was taken from the water supply in the ‘MADANG’ or from the well of a village.

Life at Panjajib In general, the Panjajib were ver y narrow.

Although there were variations from area to area, the size of one room was about 4 square meters. Most of the homes have at least two families living together, and people lived in very narrow environments. From the 1960s to the 1980s, as the population policy continued to change, the number of people living in one room gradually decreased, but the absolute narrowness of living rooms was always the same. They used movable furniture rather than fixed furniture to flexibly utilize a small area.

Process Diagram

Slums that sprout during urbanization are concentrated on riversides and hills, the most difficult conditions to live in. Riverside, in particular, has always been vulnerable to flooding.So we set up a site here and design a shelter that combines today's evolving flotation technology. Using pontoons made by recycled plastic waste, people can build their own housing easily and cheaply, and also public open spaces can be expanded combining them.By building "on the water" rather than riverside, one can build dwellings that can be settled temporarily and permanently by utilizing the characteristics of easy to move. Also, people will be able to safely respond to changing water levels, such as monsoon rains, floods and rising water levels caused by global warming.

The park is made of a collection of small pontoons, and they become a park with a unique topography. Since it is made of a pontoon t h at has the advantage of being able to move, if the pontoon does not function properly, it may be replaced or disappeared, and a new form of pontoon may be added. The park, a space for residents to rest, is designed by a park designer because of its unique shape.

All houses are connected by a bridge on the second floor, and the second floor becomes a public space. In this place, people do commercial activities, work, etc., so this place becomes the work place of each life. Therefore, the pedestrian street is always in good condition and b e c om e s a l i ve l y s p ac e by residents.

Architecture does not exist only in the real world. We explore the architecture of the virtual world beyond reality. How is the architecture of the virtual world created? In addition, we will study NF T that secures originality on the Internet.

1. The player lifts up on a platform that moves up and down from the outside.

2. The player indulges the space in the stepwell. In this space, players explore the space more deeply through the process of finding items. After collecting all the items, the path and door to the NFT gallery will appear.

In the real world space, architects cannot perfectly predict the user’s action range or their spatial experience. However, the architecture of the virtual world is different. Therefore, in the architecture of the virtual world, the direction given to users along with the storyline of the space is important, and interaction with the user is essential due to the characteristics of cyberspace that can easily lose interest. Therefore, in this design, we focused on coding that can realize user interaction as well as spatial experience.

- A strong building attracts people’s attention even as times change.

- A long time ago, stepwell in India was used as a well to collect water as well as function as a temple. For them, stepwell was to contain what is important in life.

- The space to be built in the metaverse is composed of stepwell, in which the elements that make up the world surround him. This is similar to the use of stepwell in the past.
