1942 – The Rebbe is appointed by his father in law to direct the umbrella

1941 – Yeshiva in Montreal is established by nine Chabad refugee students, who escaped the holocaust via Japan and Shanghai.

1941 – The Rebbe - Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson arrives in New York escaping Vichy France via Portugal on one of the last passenger ships to cross the Atlantic.

1940 – The Previous Rebbe – Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson arrives in New York after escaping the horrors of Nazi Poland. He immediately announces “America is not different” and we will build Judaism in America to its fullest glory.

1959 – The first Chabad Houses established in California & Michigan – The Rebbe foresees it will spread like a franchise.

1952 – Chabad Youth Movement is established in Israel.

1951 – The Rebbe formally accepts Chabad Leadership.

1956 – Beth Rivka Schools for girls established in the USA and Canada.

Strengthens, Chabad’s Summer Merkos Shlichus – Peace Corps Program, sending students to smaller or underserved cities. Today over 600 students take part every summer.

Founds first Camp Gan Israel- today there are over 400 chapters serving over 120,000 children every summer.

Vocational trade School is established in Kfar Chabad in response to a terrorist attack where five students were murdered in cold blood.

1965 – Begins the Famous talks on Rashi in the Torah, in tribute to his mother during the year of mourning after her passing. The Rebbe revolutionized the study of Rashi, and delivered over 800 intricate discourses on Rashi over the years.

1964 – Establishes fund to aid teachers and School expansions in memory of his father the sainted Rabbi Levi Yitzchak.

1968 – As many neighbourhoods see their Jews

After Six Day War reclaims Chabad Tsemach Tsedek Synagogue in the old city – the only synagogue not destroyed by the Jordanians after 1948.

He publicly declares in front of 20,000 people during the Lag B’omer (May 28) parade in New York that Israel will emerge victorious. This becomes headline news in Israel bringing hope to the beleaguered state.

1967 – Launches the Tefillin campaign in the run up to the Six day war. In the first year alone over 400,000 men don Tefillin, many for the first time.

1960 – The Rebbe launches Tanya (the Chassidic classic) class on the radio, heralding this as a new stage in spreading the teachings of Chassidic Philosophy founded by the Ba’al Shem Tov.
