My name is Christina Gallarello and am from Las Vegas, Nevada. Growing up in Las Vegas, deepened a curiosity about city behavior and how urban landscapes and the built environment influences human interactions.
am a fifth-year student at the University of Miami working towards a B.Arch degree. Throughout my education, I have immersed myself in Miami's diverse architectural landscape, studying the culture of those spaces.
To me, architecture is about designing environments that enrich human life and shape communities.

Program Adaptive Reuse Five - Star Hotel with Dining, a Spa, and Member’s Club London, UK Arc 509
Georgian 12 is an adaptive reuse development in Covent Garden that transforms seven historic buildings into one unified five-star hotel. The hotel maintains the character and historic significance of the original facades while introducing a contemporary design element through bold green tiles which undulate across the new additions, creating a clear distinction between the original structure and new innovations. This bold color choice serves as the unifying feature, harmonizing the diverse architectural styles across the block. An arrival through a carved main entrance and accent through a monumental stair create a journey through the hotel’s rich history and modern transformation. These features transform the act of movement into an experience, inviting guests to engage with the space in a memorable way.

IT’S GREEN!
It’s Georgian 12, an approved color in the historic guide for Covent Garden. This color will create a brand for the hotel, allowing the hotel to become an iconic symbol while remaining contextual to Covent Garden. Recognition will urge visitors to stay at this hotel over others in the area.

When thinking about Miami Beach, the focus tends to turn to the concrete art deco buildings of the mid-19th century rather than its earlier wood counterparts. To combat this idea, 8208 Collins poses itself as a wood construction seated atop a concrete base. The program is separated into three distinct buildings : a gym hall, entrepreneurship area, and commercial market. Each building is elevated at different heights, forming a physical acknowledgment of transition into different spaces. The structure features large overhanging roofs, operable louvers for sun protection and ventilation, and a radial skate park underneath, offering shade and allowing skaters to interact with the space.

This library, located in a residential community in Rome, is designed to harmonize with nature and cater to a theme of entomology. A radial plan allows for free circulation through the site with the main structure centrally planned around a reflection pool in the courtyard, offering a serene space for outdoor reading on steps that immerse visitors in the surrounding ecosystem. Elevated above ground, the building delicately interacts with its ecosystem, allowing for insect habitation beneath. The sloping bookshelves echo the roof’s continuous inclined canopy, creating a seamless relationship between interior and exterior design elements. A Flexbrick engineered facade creates a light form that mimics the historic materiality of Rome.

Reimagined Superblock / Urban Redesign
Brasilia, Brazil
Arc 305

Contradictory to the existing nature of Brasilia, this project redefines the layout of a typical block within the city. Inspired by favelas and other informal communities in Brazil and the rest of South America, this block emphasizes community and creativity while rejecting imposed rigid ideas of cities. Unlike traditional cites, the blocks of this proposed superquadra are laid out according to the topography on the site as opposed to the network of streets. Two main streets located on the north and south sides of the block are arranged near parking garages, located under residential buildings. The residences are compiled to appear staggered which gives more dynamism to the site section. Inspired by the market streets of morocco, the retail street of the block is integrated into the mixed use components of the residential units. The design also embodies adaptive reuse within the civic sector, where pre-existing retail buildings are converted into mixed-use civic buildings connected with a shed superstructure.
