UNA VITA, Continua Vogliamo farlo questa volta, dopo il racconto ambientato nella sua UN INNO amatissima Napoli, con un suggestivo viaggio attraverso i luoghi di quello che era, senza alcun dubbio, il suo rifugio estivo prediletto: Capri, l’isola tra ALLA BELLEZZA le tre dell’arcipelago campano a cui attingeva maggiormente come fonte d’ispirazione in fatto di bellezza senza tempo e colta, sofisticata, mondanità.

SENZA TEMPO. Uomo autentico, genio visionario, da tutti riconosciuto tra i più grandi e ultimo, vero, grande Maestro d’Arte della scuola sartoriale partenopea.

Prima del grande genio, prima del grande Maestro dell’alta sartoria partenopea, celebrato in tutto il mondo, però, l’uomo. Autentico, passionale, generoso, ironico, umile nella sua grandezza, devoto anzitutto alla sua famiglia e poi alla sua arte, la sua amata arte dell’ago e del filo.

Un vero padre, straordinario per i suoi figli così come per ciascuno dei suoi sarti. Decine e decine di giovani artigiani napoletani che, grazie ai suoi insegnamenti, hanno potuto apprendere i segreti di questo affascinante, nobile, mestiere d’arte.

Erede naturale di Vincenzo Attolini, suo padre, creatore ad inizio anni Trenta dell’ormai mitica giacca destrutturata alla napoletana.

In assoluto, il più abile dei modellisti, dicono in moltissimi, capace sì di perfezionare e attualizzare la mitica giacca creata da suo padre ma, soprattutto, di disegnare e cucire decine di innovativi, unici, modelli. Un patrimonio incommensurabile, custodito oggi, e per le generazioni future, da Massimiliano e Giuseppe Attolini e dai suoi sarti.

“Mio padre Vincenzo osò mettere in discussione il modello inglese, portando a termine una vera e propria rivoluzione, riuscì cioè a rendere la giacca morbida e leggera come una camicia o un cardigan apportando numerose altre innovazioni tecniche. Io ho semplicemente messo a frutto i suoi insegnamenti rendendo la giacca di volta in volta sempre più adatta allo stile di vita contemporaneo". Così, con parole semplici, raccontava la sua arte Cesare Attolini. Tra i sei figli di Vincenzo, il più talentuoso e colui che sin da giovanissimo lo affiancò in sartoria, apprendendone le abili tecniche del taglio dei tessuti ed i segreti di modellatura e costruzione di quella giacca, tanto unica quanto innovativa, che dagli anni Sessanta in poi ha continuato a mietere nuovi ed entusiastici proseliti in tutto il mondo.

A soli ventidue anni lasciò la mitica sartoria del padre di Via Vetriera per raggiungere Torino e dirigere una delle più prestigiose sartorie dell’epoca. Qui riuscì a dar vita, per primo e con un enorme successo commerciale, ad una linea caratterizzata dal connubio perfetto fra le tecniche lavorative artigianali, apprese grazie al lavoro fianco a fianco con il padre e maestro, con quelle seriali, all’epoca dominanti. Organizzando processi e spazi pur tenendo intatto e autentico il saper fare sartoriale. Nel suo modello, all’epoca a dir poco avveniristico, ogni sarto inizia ad eseguire una fase manuale della costruzione della giacca, specializzandosi profondamente e, allo stesso tempo, preservando l’autenticità della lavorazione manuale. Una vera rivoluzione nel mondo della sartoria. Proprio come nel 1930, fece suo padre Vincenzo, Cesare scrive un nuovo capitolo dell’arte sartoriale.

Ancora una volta un’intuizione acuta, visto che questo sarà di lì in poi il metodo produttivo adottato da moltissime aziende del made in Italy e non solo.

"Ho sempre avuto un precetto, inculcatomi da mio padre fin da ragazzo: fare sempre seriamente il mio lavoro, senza cercare facili scorciatoie o scendere a compromessi che possono anche premiarti nel breve periodo ma nel lungo ti presentano sempre il conto", amava ripetere costantemente, con l’intenzione di lasciare in eredità il più importante degli insegnamenti.

The celebration of our beloved Maestro Cesare continues.

We do this following the story set in his cherished Naples, with an evocative journey through the places of what was his favourite summer retreat: Capri, the island among three in the Campania archipelago, was his most important source of inspiration because of its timeless beauty and cultured, sophisticated high society.

A sincere man, a visionary genius, recognised by all as one of the greatest and the last, true, great Master of Art of the Neapolitan school of tailoring.

But before the great genius, before the great Master of Neapolitan haute couture celebrated worldwide, however, the man himself. Sincere, passionate, generous, ironic, humble in his greatness, devoted above all to his family and then to his art, his beloved art of needle and thread. A true extraordinary father to his children as well as to each of his tailors. Dozens and dozens of young Neapolitan artisans who, thanks to his teachings, learnt the secrets of this fascinating noble craft.

A LIFETIME, AN ODE TO TIMELESS ELEGANCE.

He is the natural heir of his father, Vincenzo Attolini, the creator in the early 1930s of the now legendary Neapolitan-style unstructured jacket.

By far the most skilful patternmaker, many say, capable not only of perfecting and updating the legendary jacket created by his father but, above all, of designing and sewing dozens of innovative, unique models.

An immeasurable heritage, preserved today and for future generations, by Massimiliano and Giuseppe Attolini and his tailors. "My father Vincenzo dared to question the English model and brought about a true revolution, managing in other words to make the jacket as soft and light as a shirt or a cardigan, introducing numerous other technical innovations. I simply put his teachings to good use by making each version of the jacket more suitable for contemporary lifestyles.” These are the simple words that Cesare Attolini used to describe his art. Of Vincenzo's six children, he was the most talented and the one who, from a very young age, worked alongside him in the tailor's shop, learning the skilful techniques of fabric cutting and the secrets of shaping and constructing that jacket, as unique as it is innovative, which from the Sixties onwards has continued to reap enthusiastic new fans all over the world.

When he was only twenty-two years old, he left his father's legendary tailor's shop in Via Vetriera to go to Turin and manage one of the most prestigious tailor's shops of the time. Here, with enormous commercial success, he was the first to conceive a line characterised by the perfect combination of craftsmanship techniques, learnt working side by side with his father and master, and the serial techniques that were dominant at the time. Organising processes and spaces while keeping his sartorial knowhow intact and authentic. With his pattern, futuristic to say the least for its time, each tailor begins with a manual phase of the jacket construction, in-depth specialisation that at the same time preserves the authenticity of manual workmanship. A true revolution in the world of tailoring. Just as his father Vincenzo did in 1930, Cesare wrote a new chapter in the art of tailoring.Acute intuition once again, given that this was to be the production method adopted from then on by many companies, not only in Italy.

"I have always had this precept, instilled in me by my father since I was a boy: always take my work seriously, without looking for easy shortcuts or compromises that may reward you in the short term but will always make you pay for it in the long run,” he loved to repeat constantly, with the aim of handing down to me the most important of teachings.

Ci sono molte strade che sono delle vere e proprie icone. Simboli di un luogo intero, di un’epoca o, ancora, di un accadimento storico.

Strade che diventano miti scolpiti nell’immaginario collettivo.

Una di queste è Via Tragara. Una stradina suggestiva e panoramica che traccia il cammino verso l’omonimo, celebre e infinite volte celebrato, belvedere dal quale si possono toccare con un dito gli iconici Faraglioni mentre lo sguardo si perde fino

allo Scoglio delle Sirene, indugiando sulla piccola baia di Marina Piccola.

Qui tutto è bellezza senza tempo, capace di attivare tutti i sensi: l’udito è catturato da un silenzio etereo, rotto esclusivamente dal canto degli uccelli; l’olfatto è costantemente sollecitato dai profumi dei policromi, danzanti, fiori che ricoprono una buona parte dei muri antichi; la vista, abbagliata da una natura lussureggiante che in modo prepotente fa incontrare la pietra al mare.

Some streets are truly iconic. They are symbols of a place, an era or historical event.

Such streets become myths and are carved into the collective imagination.

One of these is Via Tragara. This evocative and panoramic narrow street traces a path towards the famous and endlessly celebrated belvedere of the same name, from where it is possible to touch the iconic Faraglioni, while the gaze wanders towards the Scoglio delle Sirene (Sirens’ Rock) and lingering over

the small Marina Piccola Bay. Here, everything has a timeless beauty that activates the senses. The ethereal silence is broken only by birdsong. The multicoloured, dancing flowers covering most of the ancient walls intensify the smell. Vision is dazzled by luxuriant nature that forces a meeting between sea and stone.

A pochi passi dall’immortal Piazzetta, si cela una delle gemme dell’isola. Un giardino che racchiude la storia di Capri, ma che diventa anche panorama mozzafiato sul cristallino Mediterraneo: i Giardini di Augusto, uno dei luoghi più amati dell’isola che ospita un belvedere da sogno, un vero tuffo tra i Faraglioni e la baia di Marina Piccola.

Un continuo susseguirsi di terrazze e stradine che si aggrovigliano intorno a una collinetta affacciata sul mare, i Giardini di Augusto nascono nell'antica

proprietà che l'industriale tedesco Friedrich Alfred Krupp acquistò nei primi anni del Novecento a ridosso della Certosa di San Giacomo per costruire la sua dimora caprese.

Fu solo dopo il primo conflitto mondiale che furono ribattezzati con il nome che è rimasto fino ai giorni nostri, continuando a custodire le principali specie di fiori e piante che si possono trovare sull'Isola di Capri.

One of the island's gems is hidden a few steps from the famous Piazzetta. This garden captures Capri's history and becomes a breathtaking panorama over the crystal-clear Mediterranean. The Gardens of Augustus are one of the island's best-loved places which hosts a dreamy belvedere to enjoy the view between the Faraglioni and Marina Piccola Bay. With their continuous succession of terraces and pathways winding around a hill overlooking the sea, the Gardens of Augustus were created on the property

the German industrialist Friedrich Alfred Krupp bought in the early 20th century near the Certosa di San Giacomo for his Capri residence.

It was only after the First World War that the Gardens were renamed as we now know them. They are home to the main species of flowers and plants that can be found on Capri .

Parte del fascino dell’isola di Capri è legatissimo al mito delle creature fantastiche delle sirene, personaggi mitologici noti per la loro insuperabile bellezza e dolce melodia del canto. Presenti fra le pagine del poeta Ovidio, sotto forma di sinuose creature che si libravano nell’aria, si narra che, distrutte dal dolore per una sconfitta musicale con le Muse, strappatesi le ali, si lasciarono cadere in mare, trasformandosi così in splendide sirene fluttuanti lungo le coste di Capri.

Proprio tra questi flutti sono presenti tra le righe dell’Odissea di Omero, quando, al passaggio del mitico eroe Ulisse, completamente noncurante

della magia del loro canto e legato all’albero della propria imbarcazione, il dolore, per l’ennesimo fallimento, le porterà al rifugio nella morte, annegando in mare e trasformandosi in scogli.

Il Genius Loci è lo spirito dell’isola, la sua vera essenza, l’identità molte volte dimenticata o tradita.

La cultura tedesca creò un vocabolo per narrarlo al meglio, “Capriwanderlust”, che esprime tutta la gioia di passeggiare per Capri. E sarà all’improvviso, nelle luci dell’alba o del tramonto, nelle volte di una villa storica, che si potrà capire che il Genius Loci è la bellezza, la bellezza senza tempo che qui regna indissolubile più che mai.

Part of Capri’s charm is that it is linked to the mythological Sirens, who were known for their unsurpassed beauty and sweet song. The poet Ovid describes them as sinuous creatures hovering in the air. It is said that destroyed by grief after a musical defeat by the Muses, they tore off their wings, fell into the sea and transformed themselves into the magnificent Sirens floating along Capri’s coasts.

The Sirens feature in Homer's Odyssey, where the mythical hero Ulysses was unconcerned about their song's magic because he was tied to the mast of his boat. The Sirens’ grief at yet another failure led them to take refuge in death, drowning in the sea and

turning into rocks.

The Genius Loci is the island’s spirit, true essence and identity which are often forgotten or betrayed.

German culture created a word to narrate it best, "Capriwanderlust", which expresses the joy of walking around Capri. Suddenly in the dawn or sunset light, in a historic villa, we realise that the Genius Loci is a timeless beauty that reigns here forever.

Via Krupp è considerata unanimemente uno dei sentieri più belli al mondo. Questa storica strada pedonale acciottolata a zig-zag, collega la zona della Certosa di San Giacomo e dei Giardini di Augusto con quella di Marina Piccola, nella zona meridionale dell’isola. Costruito tra il 1900 e il 1902, il sentiero si sviluppa per 1 chilometro e 346 metri e presenta curve strette che quasi si sovrappongono l’una sull’altra. Un sentiero descritto come “una strada che è essa stessa un’opera d’arte“, per le sue eleganti curve disposte in armonia con la parete rocciosa che offre un’immagine così bella allo sguardo da rendere inevitabile il susseguirsi costante di esclamazioni di sorpresa e incanto. La strada fu commissionata dal magnate industriale tedesco Friedrich Alfred Krupp che, all’inizio del

XX secolo, chiese all’ingegnere Emilio Mayer come progettarla e costruirla. Krupp amava l’isola di Capri, dove risiedeva per diversi mesi all’anno presso l’Hotel Quisisana e voleva che la strada fornisse un collegamento diretto tra il suo hotel di lusso e Marina Piccola, dove erano ancorate le sue navi. Un’alternativa a Via del Mulo, molto più lunga e faticosa da percorrere. Era il 1899, quando propose ufficialmente al sindaco di allora, Federico Serena, la realizzazione della strada, rimarcandone l’importanza dal punto di vista turistico oltre che la sua utilità e mettendo a disposizione i fondi per la sua costruzione. I lavori terminarono nella primavera del 1902 quando la strada fu inaugurata e Krupp ricevette anche la cittadinanza onoraria dell’Isola.

Via Krupp is unanimously considered one of the world’s most beautiful paths. This historic, zigzagging cobbled pedestrian street connects the Certosa of San Giacomo and the Gardens of Augustus to Marina Piccola in the Island’s southern part. Built between 1900 and 1902, the path runs for 1.346 km and has sharp bends that almost overlap one another. A path described as "a work of art"due to its elegant curves arranged harmoniously with the rock face with such beauty that exclamations of surprise and enchantment are inevitable. The road was commissioned at the beginning of the 20th century by the German industrial magnate Friedrich Alfred Krupp, who asked the engineer Emilio Mayer how to design and build it. Krupp loved Capri and lived at the Hotel Quisisana for several months of

the year. He wanted the road to link his luxury hotel and Marina Piccola, where his ships were anchored.

It was an alternative to Via del Mulo, which was a longer and more difficult walk. Krupp officially proposed the road’s construction to Mayor Federico Serena in 1899, emphasising its touristic importance and usefulness and provided construction funds.

The work was completed in the spring of 1902 when the road was opened, and Krupp received honorary citizenship of the island.

In alto, sullo sperone roccioso nord-orientale di Anacapri, ai piedi del monte Barbarossa, si trova la bianca creazione del dottor Axel Munthe (1857-1949), al suo tempo uno degli svedesi più conosciuti nel mondo. La sua notorietà è dovuta soprattutto alla sua opera di scrittore, alla sua fama come medico di tutti e personale della regina Victoria di Svezia, come filantropo e amico degli animali e per le sue amicizie del mondo intellettuale internazionale di allora. Villa San Michele è circondata da un parco verdeggiante nel quale l’architettura, l’arte e la natura confluiscono armonicamente. La Villa è l’unica residenza privata di Capri, nello stato originario, aperta al pubblico ed evoca la vita del jet set internazionale culturale, aristocratico e reale della sua epoca. ”La Mia Casa Deve Essere Aperta Al Sole, Al

Vento E Alle Voci Del Mare - Come Un Tempio Greco - E Luce, Luce, Luce Ovunque”, scrisse Munthe ne La Storia di San Michele (1929) uno dei più grandi bestsellers internazionali dell’epoca.

L’intenzione del medico svedese non era di crearsi un'abitazione comoda, ma piuttosto quella di realizzare un’architettura ariosa che permettesse ai suoi pensieri e alle sue emozioni di esprimersi sulle grandi questioni della vita. Nel terreno acquistato da Munthe si trovavano tracce di epoca romana. I reperti antichi fanno parte della sua collezione privata e provengono soprattutto dal continente; eppure, siano essi originali o copie di marmo e bronzo, hanno tutti la funzione di suscitare quello stato d’animo che Axel Munthe, stando alle parole del libro, desiderava evocare. Tra tutti, la figura più iconica è la sfinge egizia che dall’alto sorveglia l’isola di Capri.

High up on the rocky north-eastern spur of Anacapri, at the foot of Monte Barbarossa, is the white home of Dr Axel Munthe (1857-1949), one of the world’s best-known Swedes of the time. His notoriety was mainly due to his work as a writer and fame as Queen Victoria of Sweden’s doctor. He was a philanthropist and animal lover with friends among the international intellectual elite. Villa San Michele is surrounded by a verdant park where architecture, art and nature combine harmoniously. The Villa is the only private Capri residence still in its original state. It is open to the public and evokes the life of the international cultural, aristocratic, and royal jet set of its time.

"My home shall be open for the sun and the wind and the voices of the sea – like a Greek temple – and light, light, light everywhere!" wrote Munthe in

The Story of San Michele (1929) in his international bestseller.

The Swedish doctor's did not want to create a comfortable home for himself, but an airy architecture that would allow him to express his thoughts and emotions on life’s great questions.

Munthe’s land had Roman traces. The ancient artefacts, mainly from the continent, became part of his private collection. Yet whether they were originals or marble and bronze copies, their function was to arouse that state of mind that Munthe wished to evoke. Among them, the most iconic figure is the Egyptian sphinx that watches over Capri from above.

C’è una spiaggia a Capri che rimanda direttamente al mito, alla storia che si intreccia con la leggenda.

Questa spiaggia ha un nome preciso: Marina Piccola. Si tratta di una conca, dalle acque cristalline, che si trova sul versante opposto di Marina Grande e affaccia sul lato sud dell’isola, protetta dalle ripide pareti rocciose del Castiglione e di Monte Solaro, il cui orizzonte va verso i mitici Faraglioni.

Arrivati al piazzale di Marina Piccola, a destra della Chiesa di Sant’Andrea, si scende per le ripide e brevi scale per giungere allo scoglio delle Sirene.

Tanti studiosi hanno infatti collocato qui l’arrivo delle sirene narrate nell’Odissea da Omero. Queste rocce dividono la piccola baia in due piccole spiagge: Marina di Mulo e Marina di Pennauro, utilizzate dagli antichi romani come piccolo porto.

There is a Capri beach that intertwines history, and myth. It is called Marina Piccola. The beach is a basin, with crystal-clear waters, that lies on the opposite side of Marina Grande and overlooks the south side of the island. Protected by the steep cliffs of Castiglione and Monte Solaro where the horizon goes towards the mythical Faraglioni.

Once arrived at Marina Piccola square, to the right of the Church of Sant'Andrea, descend the steep,

short stairs to reach the Sirens’ rock. Many scholars linked this place to the arrival of the Sirens described in Homer's Odyssey. These rocks divide the small bay into two small beaches: Marina di Mulo and Marina di Pennauro, used by the ancient Romans as a small port.

Dal Belvedere di Pizzolungo fino alla Grotta di Matermania c’è un sentiero lungo il quale si può vivere un percorso nella bellezza naturale senza tempo di Capri. Una passeggiata sospesi nel blu, perché il mare è sempre lì, con il suo blu ceruleo a sorreggere la ripida costa e ad indicare la via.

Si parte proprio da Pizzolungo dove la sensazione è quella di poter adagiare il palmo della propria mano sul pizzo lungo, appunto, dei Faraglioni, visto che da qui li si può ammirare dall’alto e da molto vicino.

Lungo il percorso, poi, d’improvviso, tra gli anfratti della costa, si lascia ammirare Casa Malaparte, adagiata con il suo color rosso sulla arrotondata

Punta Massullo. Questa è considerata uno dei capolavori dell'architettura moderna, senza dubbio per una tra le sue caratteristiche principali: quella di avere un'enorme scalinata che permette di salire sul tetto e da lì godere dell'incredibile panorama.

Continuando lungo questo sentiero si giunge poi, sul versante sud-orientale dell’isola, alla Grotta Di Matermania, un affascinante antro trasformato un tempo in un ninfeo romano, di cui ancor oggi sono visibili alcuni resti murari. Qui si celebravano i riti in onore della Dea Cibele, nota come Mater Magna, da qui quindi il nome.

From the Pizzolungo Belvedere to the Grotta di Matermania, there is a path along which it is possible to experience Capri’s timeless natural beauty. A walk is described as being “immersed in blue” because the sea is always there, and its cerulean hue upholds the steep coastline and points the way.

Starting from Pizzolungo, there is the feeling that you can rest the palm of your hand on the long edge of the Faraglioni. From here you can admire them from above and close up. Along the way, amidst the coastal ravines there is the red masonry Casa Malaparte snuggly placed on the rounded Punta Massullo. Casa Malaparte is considered one of the masterpieces

of modern architecture. One of its main features is having a massive staircase to climb to the roof and enjoy the incredible view.

Along this path, on the south-eastern side of the island, there is the Grotta Di Matermania, a fascinating cavern that was a Roman nymphaeum, of which some remains of the wall are still visible. This place was named after the Goddess Cybele, or Magna Mater, and where rites were performed in her honour.
