Sponsor a Seminarian Redemptoris Mater Archdiocesan Missionary Seminary was established on October 29, 1990 in Kearny, New Jersey. The mission of the seminary is to form priests who will be ready to serve not only within the Archdiocese of Newark, but wherever the Good News needs to be proclaimed, so that the word of the Lord to “Go out and preach the Gospel to all nations” may be fulfilled.

This year at Redemptoris Mater we have 32 seminarians receiving formation, representing 15 different countries. On May 23 of this year, Jose Arturo Ortiz-Bedoya and Brian Orlando Gonzalez will be ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Newark, bringing the total number of priests ordained from Redemptoris Mater Newark to 100.

About half of our priests are working outside the Archdiocese of Newark in different mission areas such as Estonia, Puerto Rico, the Turks and Caicos Islands, Bermuda, Austria, France, Germany, Rome, Australia, Canada and of course locations throughout the US, such as Arizona, Boston, Brooklyn, Connecticut, Michigan and Minnesota. The rest are ministering in parishes and institutions in the Archdiocese of Newark.
