publisher's letter When we created and introduced the inaugural edition of Ceremony Magazine 12 years ago, we did so with two mantras in mind: weddings are visual, so photography is key; and collaborate with the highest quality vendors and the magazine will follow suit. Those principles still reign true today. Ceremony Magazine has always been big on pictures and short on words, and it seems social media is emulating the same. With the likes of Pinterest and Instagram becoming the go-to social media sites, the whole world can now communicate in a language that has no barriers: pictures. Now more than ever, it’s the perfect complementary platform to view the best-of-the-best of Ceremony’s thousands of timeless inspirational wedding and photo shoot images. We hope you will follow us and find inspiration for your own wedding. While we revel in the limitless amount of ideas we can digitally find, we know that the most beautiful image is no substitute for finding quality vendors who can execute your vision. That is why we indulge in the pure Wedding IngenuityTM from Ceremony’s own family of wedding professionals that are right here in The Bay Area. This Great List of wedding vendors contains not only many of the best in the San Francisco Bay Area, but also some of the finest in the country. It is their work that makes up a large part of this magazine, including 42 real weddings in this issue alone. Throughout the entire magazine, their web addresses are listed alongside their work as a helpful tool when you are flipping through Ceremony Magazine online. We are excited for what we know you are about to experience: meeting, collaborating with and perhaps even befriending some of the most creatively talented people you will ever know. As you travel along your wedding planning journey, preparing for life’s wondrous path of marriage and love, we encourage you to put extra special thought into the most significant aspect of the wedding celebration — the

John Griffin Photography

I love the camera. My desire is to capture life’s most important moments visually. When I photograph a couple’s wedding, I make every effort to ensure that my relationship with them is more “friend of the family” less photographer-client. At times, I have even been known to dance at the weddings I shoot and mingle with the guests. I often tell my clients that they need to “click” (pun intended) with their photographer. Simply put, the photographer is the one person that couples will see and be with the most throughout this important day. I encourage a consultation so the couple can view my work but also see if my personality is a good fit for them. I truly enjoy what I do and it would be my honor to work with you.

Mémoire Studio

Making memories last a lifetime is what drives Mark and Tammy Toung to create their beautiful art together. With photography backgrounds in landscape, food and people pictorials, this husband and wife team found their calling as soon as they married their soul mate. Realizing how momentous a wedding can be inspired them to become “storytellers of love” and share this passion with each couple they photograph. Mémoire Studio mixes a contemporary portraiture style with a photojournalistic approach, making sure to artistically capture your day as it naturally unfolds. Mark & Tammy specialize in wedding, engagement and boudoir, as well as family photography since the star of the studio is their daughter, Maddy.

I’ve had a camera in my hand since my dad gave me his manual Pentax when I was in 6th grade. I love to capture everyday things a bride and groom might miss. A quick kiss, a quirky item left on the gift table, an unusual angle. Unscripted moments are everything! For me, the story you get in a brief instant counts as much as the whole day. Capturing emotions are what I love the most. My approach is “as I see it” – I wait until that brief second when my bride and groom are completely in tune with each other and forget I’m there. Those are the moments you’ll treasure and the one I work hardest to get. I feed off the happy, positive energy of a wedding and delight in capturing it forever through images.

Hazy Lane Studios

Based in the East Bay Area, Karey is a nationally published and award winning photographer, specializing in modern and romantic documentary-style photography. She enjoys capturing true beauty, love, and those moments between moments. With a flawless wedding day workflow, Karey works quickly and efficiently to ensure couples can enjoy their guests and wedding day. After all, no one wants to be late to their own party. She is blessed to be married for the last ten years and has two beautiful daughters. When Karey is not busy with her family or brides and grooms, she enjoys spending her time cooking and never says no to a trip to Disneyland.

He loves what he does and is very grateful that he is able to do this as a living. Vicens enjoys capturing laughter, tears and cake cutting in real life settings. Once it cools off, he throws in a sprinkle of technical expertise and a dash of his secret ingredient hoping to deliver something that will warm your heart for years to come. how do you know? How do you know…he’s the one? You may have been asked this question by your parents, your friends, even yourself. The answer isn’t always perfectly clear; he may or may not be ‘ideal’ on paper; you may have known him for only two months or perhaps you’ve been hanging in there a good five years; he may be a cowboy while you were visualizing a business man. The so-called ‘signs’ aren’t always there, but somehow, you just know. At Ceremony, we feel the same way about our Great List of wedding professionals that we recommend and invite to join our family of advertising partners. We take this vendor collective very seriously, which is why we don’t put arbitrary consideration requirements in an antiquated form. We don’t have a scholastic checklist to help us come up with an ‘A’ grade. We don’t even have a job application type form to fill out. You see, when it comes to choosing our Great List of recommended professionals, we believe there is no specific formula for choosing who we invite to join our family. Probably not unlike you, we take a looksee at Facebook, we inquire with their friends and colleagues and, most importantly, we get to know them by social networking the old-fashioned way (in person). In the end, we go with our gut. We just… know. You will find that some of these recommended vendors have refined their businesses over the past twenty years, while others bring fresh ideas after having recently started their own businesses. Many of our recommended venues are on the AAA Five-Diamond Resort list; others include charming private estates and everything in between. Additionally, the esteemed planners on the following pages each approach weddings in their own unique way, and we have interviewed each of them in order to give you an up close and personal look at their backgrounds, their ideas, and their wedding ingenuity. We hope that you will find this varied Great List vendor collective to be helpful in finding your wedding day professionals. There is no single vendor that is perfect for everyone, but there are vendors that are perfect for you. And when you meet them, you will just know.

CEREMONY: Involve several key people with stories, poems and wishes as part of the ceremony.

MY DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: To create not what I want, but bringing to life our client's vision in a classy, timeless and fun manner.

DECOR: I see people pulling away from the neutrals only and adding just a blush or "vintage". A lot of companies are trying to bring glam back (as they should).

I FIND INSPIRATION IN: Myself and the people who surround me

BRIDAL PARTY GIFTS: I love the different ways brides are asking their bridal party to be part of their day, like having handmade signs, cards and such sent to their home.

YOU'RE ENGAGED! YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS: Enjoy your engagement! Don't rush.

BUDGET: Although money sometimes is or is not an issue, people are really prioritizing where money should be spent. DESTINATION WEDDINGS: I see a lot more exotic places such as Nicaragua. HOT: Hanging tabletop florals and lighting NOT: Shrubbery all over the place

In 2011, I began doing events and invitations for family and friends, as it was something I absolutely loved. I constantly had people telling me that I should start my own business, so I started off by creating a blog to showcase some of my work. It wasn’t after planning my own wedding in 2011 that my passion really grew into a profession and I founded Simple Little Details. The name of the company came easy as I kept finding myself repeating it’s all about those simple little details that truly make an event unique. - Taleen Shirikian A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MY BACKGROUND: Born and raised in Los Angeles, I graduated from Pepperdine University. I currently live in the Bay Area and am a happily married mother of two. - Christine Soussa

Idea Ingenuity CEREMONY: Having a refreshment station at the ceremony is a fun touch guests are sure to enjoy, especially on a hot day! Display a variety of beverages such as water with fresh fruit or specialty lemonade in drink dispensers and fun paper straws. -Taleen COLOR PALETTES: Black is a color not often introduced in weddings, but it is one of my favorites. Touches of it can really give a wedding a chic or edgy feel. -Taleen FASHION: Formal fashion is one of my favorites. There are incredible bridal fashions that are classic and make a statement. We see many luxurious necklines that aren’t strapless, including high necks, deep V, long sleeves and even capes. These add a remarkable element to your photos. You will also feel more comfortable in a look that isn’t strapless as you won’t have to adjust it throughout the celebration. I also love the remarkable options! We‘ve seen everything from bridal jumpsuits with magnificent detachable trains, peekaboo skirts and asymmetrical hems. The current bridal fashions are filled with options, each which will ensure that you make a statement while looking exceptionally beautiful. - Christine PHOTO BOOTHS: A selfie station is a great alternative to the photo booth that’s both affordable and fun for the guests. Just provide a backdrop, selfie stick, and instagram hashtag. - Taleen WEDDING TRADITIONS: I love wedding traditions! It’s a beautiful way to commemorate the unique background of each couple and their individual family culture. We do a lot of cultural and mixed culture weddings. It’s always endearing and heartwarming to see our clients keep alive the traditions of their cultural backgrounds. - Christine LOVE IT: Something unexpected. Sometimes the simplest or smallest detail is what people talk about the most because the surprise element intensifies and delights our emotion so the experience resonates. - Christine

36

All in the Details MY DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: Always keep it chic and elegant. Even when introducing fun elements into a wedding, it can be done in a classy way. Also, it’s all about the details! Those little elements truly make an event unique. - Taleen I LOVE WEDDINGS BECAUSE: Weddings embody everything I value deeply: love, faith, family, commitment, celebration, tradition, culture, beauty, etc. Weddings represent an incredible moment in time for the couple, their families, and their guests as they form this most precious union. It is a pleasure to be a part of such a memorable and important day. - Christine YOU'RE ENGAGED! YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS: Get ready for the most amazing time of your life. The unconditional love and support that you will get from your family and friends is absolutely amazing. Take the time to enjoy the wedding process because it will fly by quickly. - Taleen MY FAVORITE WEDDING VENUE: One of my favorite wedding venues is Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery. Not only is it a gorgeous place, but the staff and food are top notch. - Taleen MY FAVORITE PLACES TO SHOP: Open air markets. Surrounded by incredible finds, artisans, and inspiration, open air markets, especially internationally, are awesome. - Christine Soussa IF MONEY WERE NO OBJECT, I WOULD: Travel. - Christine 3 WORDS OTHERS WOULD USE TO DESCRIBE ME: Active, funny and reliable. -Taleen Shirikian MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE: When people “Cheers!” or “Toast!” and someone does not take a sip from their glass. - Christine MY FAVORITE HOLIDAY: Christmas! I love how it brings the entire family together and not to mention the glittery and festive décor. - Taleen

Coordinator Spotlight

I STARTED MY BUSINESS IN: 2012

THIS IS HOW IT CAME TO BE: I was the wedding specialist at the Westin St. Francis on Union Square and had been the wedding specialist at the Sir Francis Drake before that. I had been commuting a long distance for many years. Basically, I fell asleep at the wheel of my car one night on my way home. I was fine, but it was quite an eye opener! I resigned the next week and began work on my business plan. I wish I had done it many years ago!

Make It Happen! ROBIN L. LEWIS

MY FAMILY: I live on a small ranch, When Pigs Fly Farm, with my husband. It was always my dream to have my horses at home! I am an avid equestrian and have three horses, one pony, one rescue goat, one rescue pitbull, many feral cats and just about any animal who finds its way to me has a home!

MAKEITHAPPENWEDDINGS.COM | 209.895.4598

Idea Ingenuity CAKE: A wedding cake is no longer mandatory at weddings. However, wedding cakes have also changed over the years, and bakers are creating fabulous (and delicious!) works of art. I have had several weddings this year offering assorted pies or assorted mini desserts. This is a little different, and each guest can select something that speaks to him or her personally. It also provides interesting décor in the room! ENTERTAINMENT: More and more weddings are hiring specialized musicians for their ceremony and cocktail hour. I have had an Irish trio, a street saxophonist, and an amazing rock violinist flown in from Atlanta! When music represents the couple and can add a personal element to the ceremony and reception, it is super fun! I have also hired samba dancers, henna artists, painters, belly dancers, and fortune tellers. Guests really enjoy this part of the wedding! VIDEO: Video continues to be a hot button for me. This is something that many couples elect to do late in the planning process if they have budget remaining. The technology is so improved with drones that can get tremendous views! Having a DVD in which you can hear your voice, your family’s toasts and watch your friends dancing is something to cherish for many, many years. FAVORS; I always give the same advice about wedding favors. Couples spend so much time agonizing over what to do. If you need to really think about doing favors, don’t do them. I wish I had a dollar for every generic favor I have packed up at the end of a wedding! A donation to your favorite charity or pet rescue is a great idea as well! WEDDING TRADITIONS: As we all know, there are no rules for weddings any more. Many couples plan unique aspects for their wedding that have meaning to their lives. However, my best advice would be to honor the traditions that may be important to your parents or grandparents as well. Yes, your wedding day is supposed to be all about you, but the actions you choose for that day have long time ramifications. If your mother really, really would like to see you dance with your father, why not! Parents and grandparents aren’t around forever, and there may come a time you wish you had included that one little tradition.

38

All in the Details MY DREAM WEDDING: If money were no object, I would take my family and closest friends to France for a dream wedding in Provence, “La Vie en Rose!” It would be an outdoor wedding complete with a view of wild flowers and the neighboring cows. A local caterer would feature family style country food to include locally made goat cheese, charcuterie, crusty French bread, and assorted patisseries. Only the best champagne would flow all evening! Oh, and it wouldn’t be my dream wedding without accordion music and an Edith Piaf impersonator! MY DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: I like a pure, sophisticated, and uncluttered feel. This doesn’t mean you can’t go all out with color and texture, but it all needs to make one unified statement when you’re finished. 3 WORDS THAT DESCRIBE MY STYLE: Classic with eclectic tendencies, elegant with outdoor touches, and traditional San Francisco with a unique perspective I FIND INSPIRATION IN: Being true to oneself and the goodness of the human spirit and great dance music! MY FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP: Take me to a cooking store any time! I love to dream in Williams Sonoma or look at cookie cutters in Sur La Table. The kitchen is my favorite room in my house! THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE WAS: The first time I spoke French to a Parisian and they answered me in French. IF MONEY WERE NO OBJECT, I WOULD: Buy a thousand acres and rescue every animal I possibly could! SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT ME: I overcame my claustrophobia by learning to scuba dive. I became a master scuba diver instructor and worked in the Cayman Islands for two years teaching people to dive! ON MY BUCKET LIST: A safari to Botswana, Africa with my closest friends.

Coordinator Spotlight THIS IS HOW IT CAME TO BE: Jutta, born and raised in Germany, is a physician by training and worked in her own office until relocating to San Francisco with her family. She decided against going back to medical school and starting over, but instead followed her second passion: design! Jutta lives on the SF Peninsula with her husband, and when she is not designing weddings, you’ll find her outdoors, walking her beloved dog, or in the kitchen, whipping up a meal or baking a cake for her family, all the while listening to classical music.

Idea Ingenuity

All in the Details

CEREMONY: I still prefer a traditional style of ceremony. After all, a wedding ceremony in itself is a time-honored tradition! My idea of a perfect ceremony would also include personalized vows, not long, not simply read off a page, but spoken from the heart. Especially for smaller weddings, I love to have the guests sit in a circle or semicircle around the couple and their officiant, literally surrounding them with their love and support.

MY DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: Simple, streamlined elegance with personal touches.

COLOR PALETTE: Again, the traditionalist! Pastels grounded with neutral tones for summery and outdoor weddings; and a classic combination of midnight blue, champagne or blush pink and a tiny dose of sparkle for more formal affairs. I'm currently in love with rustic/elegant: bare wooden tables, sequined runners, romantic centerpieces and gold accents. PHOTOGRAPHY: Never try to save on photography. These will be your most treasured and tangible memories of your great day! And pick a photographer whose personality fits with your own. Your photographer will witness your most tender moments, so make sure you feel comfortable in his/her presence. Your photographer should be like a trusted friend to you. The same, in my opinion, holds true for videography.

A FAVORITE WEDDING THAT I HAVE PLANNED: My own son's. I went over budget within a week. 3 WORDS THAT DESCRIBE MY STYLE: Modern, elegant and glamorous I FIND INSPIRATION IN: Art history, interior design, nature and classical music I LOVE WEDDINGS BECAUSE: They make people happy! And they allow me to crystallize vague ideas into a complete design and atmosphere. A year's work for a half day of perfection. MY FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP: Gucci, Tiffany's and Bulgari

THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE WAS: The day my son was born. IF MONEY WERE NO OBJECT, I WOULD: Retire to Bora Bora

TRANSPORTATION; I am a great fan of a fantastic getaway car, preferably a treasured, one-of-a-kind vintage limousine. It's not getting more stylish than that!

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO ME: My family

FAVORS: I firmly believe that favors should be chosen with great consideration, not just as an afterthought. They should reflect the couple's tastes and interests and should be of such quality and usefulness as to be kept and used for a long time to come. It might cost more time, effort, and money to come up with favors and gifts that fit this bill, but it reflects the consideration and gratitude of the couple towards those who have been with them on this special day.

MY FAVORITE DRINK: Rose champagne

LOVE IT: Elegant tableware OVER IT: Mason jars

MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE: People's rudeness

Field of Dreams

nearby destination weddings and honeymoons at rancho la puerta rancholapuerta.com

COURTESY OF RANCHO LA PUERTA

In 1940, wellness gurus Edmond and Deborah Szekely had a revelation, “If we build it, they will come.” And so began the modern fitness evolution. Rancho La Puerta became the first health spa as we know them today, and over the past 75 years they have earned a healthy resume, including the #1 ranking by Travel + Leisure as the top destination spa in the world four out of the past five years. What started out in a windowless adobe “house” amongst the vast desert fields of Baja California with a wondrous view of Mt. Kuchumaa, a mountain held sacred by Native Americans for thousands of years, is now a 3,000-acre world-renowned destination for those seeking health, fitness, relaxation, and notably romance. The Ranch is still operated by the Szekely family today and is richly ingrained in Mexico’s deep-rooted traditions of family and hospitality. Notable areas of The Ranch’s growth include the 83 sprawling casitas decorated with fine folk art and authentic Otomi textiles, La Cocina Que Canta culinary center and cooking school, an unparalleled 6-acre organic farm, a top-notch spa, several gyms, structures and pools that seamlessly blend into its exquisitely manicured acres, and lucky for you, its new offerings for weddings and special events. The options are seemingly endless for The Ranch’s truly special experiences that take you from pre “I will” to post “I Do.” Destination Wedding Weekend Rancho La Puerta is the ultimate in destination weddings! If you are looking for an intimate destination wedding with your closest family and friends, without the added time and costs for travel, the three or four night stay for you and your guests would be a perfect option. Your wedding weekend may be one of the few times in your lives where you have everyone you truly love all together in one place at one time. The Ranch’s inherent qualities help to make that experience all the more special. With its “unplugged” mantra, all-inclusive amenities, family style dinners and variety of activities offered, there is something for everyone to do and yet still be together. You and your guests can partake in the array of fitness classes available for any level (including the popular cardio drumming); attend the Salsa y Salsa event where you will not only learn to make delicious salsa, but dance it as well; enjoy an exhilarating morning hike to La Cocina Que Canta for a healthy and tasty organic breakfast; hone your cooking skills in a hands-on cooking class and delight in the fruits of your labor; luxuriate in a hot stone facial followed by a rooftop outdoor spa dip and shower; indulge in wine tasting of the surprisingly phenomenal wines from the Valle de Guadalupe with sommelier Alberto Cortez; enjoy select breakfasts poolside during the splendid, gorgeous mornings; and best of all, revel in Manuel’s dance classes for the most fun you’ve ever had exercising. Perhaps you are dreaming of a destination wedding with a larger guest list and unique weekend activity options. The less- traveled, clean and somewhat sleepy border town of Tecate and its neighboring Valle de Guadalupe beckon. Guests may choose to stay at nearby Santuario Diegueno Hotel and visit The Baja’s magnificent wine region in the days before or after. While wine touring, dinner at Finco Altozano is a must. The outdoor country setting of Tijuana Chef Javier Plascencia’s restaurant is brilliant with a menu to match. For an ultra-casual meal, the tacos at El Amigo alone are worth the trip.

The Wedding Day Whether you and your guests are staying at the resort or coming in for the day, the natural wedding setting is a true sanctuary. You can choose to get married and host your reception outdoors amongst the tranquil gardens with sacred mountain views, perhaps with a Mariachi band at dinner under the arbor of twinkling lights, or within the grand rancho ambiance of the tiled great room and courtyards. Either way, on-site wedding planner Maura Montoya and Chef Denise Roa will help make your wedding day a most memorable one. Chef Denise is as creative as she is talented. Of course, she reaps the fruits of their long-time gardener’s labor, but her innovation shows when she cooks and plates a radish to look like a scallop and taste as delightful. Healthy never tasted so delicious. She will cater to any allergy or dietary restrictions with finesse, and although sustainably caught seafood is magnificently prepared, it is often the organic garden-to-table produce that is the star on the plate. Honeymoons and Elopements Honeymoons aren’t only for the just-married. A pre-wedding moon allows you to de-stress and reconnect before the big day. Either way, a week at Rancho La Puerta will start your marriage off in a healthy and rejuvenating way – for both the mind and body, as well as romantically and spiritually. The unplugged life on The Ranch reminds guests to live in the moment, to seize the experience of being with our loved ones in all of nature’s beauty. There is wifi in some areas, if you are so inclined, but it is limited so that you won’t be all-consumed. Endless Experiences The opportunities are endless for events at The Ranch that give you quality time with a loved one or two, or six. Saturday at the Ranch is a great opportunity to spend a quality day with your mom or your bridesmaids. During the monthly scheduled events, guests are able to enjoy the amenities for a day, including spa time and massage, a nature hike, fitness classes and a culinary cooking experience. Like most of their guests, once you find your way to The Ranch the first time, you will return time and time again. From weddings to honeymoons, to engagement parties or a day with your maids, Rancho La Puerta is bar-none when it comes to fulfilling experiences that nourish the mind, body and soul and providing an environment for investing in each other. Getting There When people think of crossing the border, it is often assumed that means Tijuana. However, Rancho La Puerta sits just a few short miles from the clean and easy Tecate border crossing, which is only 40 miles from the San Diego Airport. You and your guests may drive across, or you may drive to the border and have resort drivers pick you up and escort you through. Another convenient option, especially for a bit larger weddings, is to arrange for Rancho La Puerta’s charter bus to transport your guests to and from the San Diego Airport or a designated San Diego hotel. Any option is extremely convenient and seamless, as Rancho La Puerta has been transporting guests for three quarters of a century. The Details Minimum 25 guests and maximum 120 guests for wedding-only packages. Minimum of 8 guests for destination wedding weekend packages at The Ranch. Elopement packages also available. Couple and all guests must have valid passport at time of travel.

love story

Shana and Joe met by chance at a pizza restaurant. She was eating alone when he came in by himself to grab a slice. They started chatting and the next thing Shana knew, Joe had paid her bill and offered to walk with her to the candy store around the corner. Chocolate covered gummy bears turned into getting coffee, and the rest is history.

love note

Shana’s favorite wedding moment was the first look with her husband out in the woods. It was just them two out in the woods for a very special and private moment. A close second was Lia Rose performing their first dance song that she wrote and Shana and Joe love. Having been to many of her concerts, it was surreal for them to have her there while dancing bare foot on the lawn under the tree Joe's great grandmother planted.

love story

Sarah and Isiah never thought that being at the right place at the right time meant meeting online. Or that they'd be one of those internet dating success stories that others shared with their friends. They met over coffee, or tea rather (Isiah hates coffee, as Sarah soon came to find out). They talked for a good 3 hours, and the conversation flowed so easily, full of laughter. The next few dates were just the same, over dinner, wine and movies.

love note

Isiah secretly arranged to have Ashanti Floyd, the "Mad Violinist", and his band come and play at their wedding after Sarah disappointedly thought their plans to do so fell through.

Thanks to Ok Cupid!, Brittany and Corbin met online in October of 2012. Corbin suggested Bijan Bakery, a Persian bakery, and he didn't even know Brittany was Persian. They enjoyed cookies together and totally hit it off. He tried to sneak a kiss at the end of the date, but she turned her head. Corbin still denies this ever happened!

love note

The ceremony had creative touches like the palette board dinner menu and wedding day schedule board along with two junior sized ring security ring bearers.

love story

Jeff and Adam met on an online dating site and got engaged in Mexico during a long weekend getaway. They were discussing the idea of marriage when Jeff said something to the effect of being too busy to find the time to pick out engagement rings. Then, Adam pulled out a box with a ring for Jeff and gave it to him. Jeff proposed right then and there, and needless to say, Adam said yes!

love note

The couple had an intimate ceremony and reception of forty people. At dinner they invited anyone to get up and say a few words. They weren’t sure if anyone would get up to say anything, but as soon as one friend got up and told a story, everyone wanted the chance to speak. Their friends told hilarious stories about Jeff and Adam and had everyone laughing - it was truly a moment of pure joy.

Kristi and Kevin met via a mutual friend. Kristi is crazy about flowers so Kevin took her to her favorite place, Filoli Gardens, to propose on Valentine’s Day.

love note

Kristi’s favorite detail was the ice cream sandwiches they had catered by C.R.E.A.M., which was a substitute for wedding cake. There were four flavors of fresh baked cake cookies (including gluten-free) and three flavors of ice cream. Guests could create their own unique combination of ice cream sandwich. It was a perfect and fun sweet for a warm August wedding.

Jessica and Chris met while both visiting their families that live in the same small town on Lake Shasta. They went to a local bar and grill called the Basshole with their families and noticed each other right away. After a great night of talking over cocktails, they exchanged numbers and stayed in touch over the next 6 months over the phone. They finally went on their first date and have been inseparable ever since.

love note

Jessica’s favorite wedding detail was the flowers and the lighting that gave a romantic feel; the candle lit round rustic chandeliers were beautiful above the dance floor. The couple’s fondest moment, besides saying “I do” of course, was when the music started and they were able to mingle, relax, and dance with their friends and family.

love story

Gina and Kelechi had heard each other's names mentioned in conversation for about a year before finally meeting one Super Bowl Sunday through one of her college housemate’s brothers. It wasn't long before Kelechi started a conversation by asking Gina, “Can I have a pretzel?” Trying to be funny, Gina handed Kelechi one little pretzel rod. They didn't stop talking and laughing all night. Two weeks later, he asked her to be his valentine and they've been sweethearts ever since.

love note

The couple wanted to personalize the wedding for the guests as much as possible and let them know how honored they were that they attended. To do this, they had each guest pick up their seating during cocktail hour, which included a handwritten note individually written to each person or couple. The notes expressed their love, appreciation and impact that person has had on their lives. Throughout the night, guests continually approached them, some with tears in their eyes, to express how touched they were by the letters they wrote.

Kelly and Sean met freshman year of high school in 2003. They were nothing more than friends and always dated other people, even though all their friends always told them that they were going to end up together. As soon as they both moved away for college they began talking more and more frequently and realized that the friendship they had could be so much more. So, they made it official when they were 18 and have been together ever since.

love note

Kelly and Sean wanted to give their guests a true San Francisco weekend, since most of them were coming from out of town. They fell in love with the Golden Gate Bridge motif and decided to put it on their cake and all of their stationery. Kelly was initially excited for their bridal party to be transported to the church via cable car because of the amazing photo opp, but the cable car-turned party bus with their 20 closest friends turned out to be one of the most special and memorable parts of their wedding day.

Fernando carved a Disney themed pumpkin with Mickey on one knee proposing to Minnie. Megan had no idea until the end when he dimmed the lights, filled the room with roses and candles, and got down on one knee to pop the question.

Rebecca and Michael were college sweethearts who met through mutual friends at Stanford. After almost 9 years of dating, including 4 years of long-distance through graduate school, Michael proposed to Rebecca on a beach in Monterey, one of their favorite places to visit.

love note

The couple had an intimate, formal, Catholic ceremony the day before with just family, so the ceremony at Wente was a way for them to share their love in a more personal way. They were very excited to share their written vows with each other and their closest family and friends. Rebecca’s uncle lead the ceremony and surprised them by having family members come up and share how long they've been married and then had the bridal party and guests break out into singing Taylor Swift's "Love Story."

love note

Andrea’s fondest wedding moment was when she was standing there holding her soon to be husband's hands; he was shaking and sweaty. But as soon as she said her pretend vows of “I love you, mucho” they both laughed, and all of their nerves went away.

love note

Aaron's dad was the ceremony officiant. It was extra special, since they met in his class in high school. During the ceremony, Aaron's dad pulled out a box of love notes that they had collected throughout the years. But living 3 hours away from each other, they started off just emailing before finally connecting in person for a Patriots game. After the game, they didn't want the date to end, so they grabbed some coffee, played in the bookstore and ended up catching a movie as well.

love note

It was raining on and off the days before the wedding and Gwenevere was upset at the possibility of having the wedding inside since their biggest desire was to be outdoors in Tahoe. Paul turned to her and said, "Honey if it rains during our wedding, we will just have to find a sunny location to do our renewals." It was just what she needed to hear!

Charlie and Max met at the Pride festival in San Francisco. Charlie was wandering the streets by himself when Max stopped him and introduced himself. They got to talking and immediately discovered some amazing similarities, such as that they’re both Jewish and both lived in Santa Rosa at the time. Charlie decided to join him and his friend for the rest of the night. They ended up staying together the entire day after as well and haven’t separated since.

love note

The thing Charlie and Max enjoyed most about their wedding was the intimacy and down home feel to it. They found a bounty of wood and craft supplies at an estate sale two weeks before their wedding and used them to make most of the décor. They wanted their wedding to have a very rustic feel. The combination of the gorgeous setting of Sonoma County and the homemade details achieved just that.

love story

Dori and Joe’s love story began on August 5, 2013 when Dori "winked" at Joe on Match.com and Joe responded immediately with an email.

love note

Dori’s fondest wedding moment was during the ceremony when the priest started reading an email Joe secretly sent explaining all the reasons he loved Dori and how he feels like the luckiest man alive. Joe’s fondest wedding moment was seeing Dori walk down the aisle.

love story On a cold New Year’s Eve night, Ankita managed to get her parent’s permission to go out to a New Year’s Eve party with her uncle and aunt. As she was dancing the night away, she saw a handsome man dancing closer to her. She was instantly drawn to his amazing sense of humor. She knew Sunil was the one when 8 years later she still could not go a day without speaking to him, hearing his voice, and being with him.

love note

One of Ankita and Sunil’s favorite parts of their wedding was that they were able to repurpose all of their flowers through Random Acts Of Flowers. All of the bouquets were broken down and turned into separate arrangements to deliver to patients in local hospitals. Both of them work in health care and it meant the world to them that they were able to give back to the patients that make their days so meaningful.

The first time Joydeep came to visit Veni, they went to the Palace of Fine Arts and it was during a conversation there that they both felt a very deep connection and knew that this was it. Fast forward one year, Joydeep caught Veni by complete surprise when he proposed to her under the dome of the Palace of Fine Arts.

love story

Nicole and Matt met their junior year at UCLA. Nicole had just come back from volunteering in Tanzania for the summer. Matt happened to be wearing a hat (which he never does) with a map of Africa on it and a heart over Tanzania. This coincidence led to a conversation and they became fast friends. Nine months later they started dating and never stopped. Seven years after that, Matt got down on one knee in UCLA’s sculpture garden.

love note

Nicole and Matt’s favorite wedding detail was their dining room. They wanted the dinner at the reception to feel like a big family dinner. The small, 8 person tables allowed everyone to have a conversation, and it was easy to navigate the dining room to see their guests.

They were sure to set the date this time and got married 5 months later.

Jessica and Andrew met in a taxi cab on the way to the same party. They soon realized that they ran in the same circle back home in Seattle and never crossed paths until that fateful night in San Francisco.

love note

Jessica asked her wedding planner to use the extensive cocktail menu and the reception setting as her inspiration. Living in San Francisco, Jessica and Andrew have an assortment of riches to pull from the restaurant scene. They knew they had to create a cocktail and food menu that would keep people interested all night and an environment worthy of lounging in for an entire evening. One of the signature cocktails, the Caio Bella, was the inspiration for their wedding color palette!

Seven years ago, John saw James at a nightclub in San Francisco. He was supposed to be introduced to him by a mutual friend, but being too nervous, John decided to skip the introduction. The next day he sent James a lengthy message on Myspace.com and James simply replied, "here's my number, call me." Six years later, while vacationing in Los Angeles with some of their closest friends, James dropped to one knee and proposed to John at the Urban Lights Exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

love note

James and John had never attended a samesex wedding before and was also a first for most of their friends, family and guests. They wanted it to have a traditional feel, hence the timeless black and white color scheme, to emphasize that there is not much of a difference between a gay or straight wedding.

Rohan and Snigdha met at a college event through their mutual friend. Rohan first saw her from across the room but was too shy (or as he says, "having too much fun") to go and talk to her while Snigdha was hoping he would come by and talk to her. By the end of the night, he worked up the courage to ask his friend to introduce him. They immediately hit it off but could not meet again because Snigdha went to school in San Diego and Rohan in Berkeley. Refusing to let distance get between them, they went on their first real date when Snigdha came home for spring break. Six years later, they got married in their favorite city and new home, San francisco.

love note

Snigdha is a big Bollywood movie fan but unfortunately Rohan cannot stand them. So to demonstrate the sacrifices they were willing to make for each other, Snigdha wrote: "I promise to watch English movies with you..." and Rohan: "...and I promise to watch Hindi movies with you."

Ari and Andrew met when they were living across from each other in the same condo complex, though they had been introduced before through mutual friends in college. One night, they both went to a local college bar for a mutual friend's birthday when they witnessed a fight break out across the street in the parking lot. Frustrated by the injustice of one of the guys running away, leaving the other one very hurt, Ari ran down the street to see where he went. Andrew followed closely behind. They were able to direct the police officers to the guy’s hiding place and got him arrested. Ari and Andrew had their first kiss the next night and have been partners in crime fighting ever since.

love note

Everything about the reception was perfect, from the speeches that made everyone laugh and cry, the magical room, and the amazing food. It was so wonderful, in fact, that Ari and Andrew didn’t even mind that a guest took a slice of the wedding cake before they cut it, or that a couple crashed the celebration, going so far as to sign the guestbook and leave a Polaroid!

Christina and Chris met in the fall of 2009 through mutual friends. They stayed in contact over the next year and began dating in October 2010. In November of 2013, they were vacationing in the mountains of Montana. On the last day of the trip, Chris decided to take Christina fishing, just the two of them. At first, it was not exactly her idea of romance, but as the fresh snow fell all around them, Chris dropped to one knee and proposed.

love note

Christina and Chris’s guestbook was a surprise from her maid of honor which included wine bottles that improve with age and peak at certain years (1, 5, 10, 15, and 20). On each of their anniversaries, they have a bottle to enjoy with their guests’ signatures so they can relive the special day.

Taleen and Vache have known of each other since they were little when they both grew up together in the Armenian community, but didn’t start noticing each other until they were teenagers. They were attending Armenian camp when they felt a spark at just 18 years old. Having gone to college and spent some of their best years in San Diego, Vache wanted to propose there. He took Taleen to La Jolla Cove and presented her with a book of memories containing items he had collected over the years: old movie tickets, photos, menus from restaurants, etc. At the end of the book, he wrote a poem in Armenian that ended in "when I'm with you my heart races, complete my life, please say yes!"

love note

Taleen’s favorite wedding moment was when she walked into the reception space. In Armenian weddings when the bride and groom enter they have everyone join them on the dance floor for a few dances. The love and joy that they felt surrounded by all their family and friends was unforgettable.

After working on the same sales team, Tyler asked Ashley out on their first date to a Giants game. For the engagement, Tyler planned a "relaxing" Friday afternoon getaway to a private beach in Half Moon Bay. After walking to a small cove just in time to watch the sunset, Tyler snuck a ring out of his pocket and kneeled down to ask Ashley to be his wife. On the drive home, they made the plans for how to tell their families. But they didn’t last long. The entire bride and groom families were waiting to greet the newly engaged couple when they arrived home to Tyler’s parents’ house.

love note

Ashley’s favorite wedding moments were having her father walk her down the aisle and seeing Tyler for the first time on their wedding day at the start of the ceremony. Tyler’s was seeing Ashley for the first time walking out of the barn to the Quail Meadows Ceremony.

love story

Petra and Branden met at a local bar in Ann Arbor. She was his bartender and he was a customer there. Her parents met the same way, except her dad was a bartender and her mom was the customer.

love note

Petra and Brandon rented a renovated cable car to take the whole wedding party around San Francisco and take pictures. Over half of their wedding party had never been to California, let alone San Francisco, so to be able to experience that ride with all of their best friends and watch them see their city was amazing.

love story

Katie and John met at a local brewery after “matching” on match.com less than a day after Katie had made an account. The sparks flew immediately, and the rest is history! John took Katie on her first cruise ever to the Caribbean. After finally arriving at the first port of the trip at St. Martin and halfway through enjoying a chicken sandwich at a shop on the beach, John asked an innocent bystander to take a quick photo. It was right then and there that he ended up popping the question!

love story

Simon and Jennifer met while building bikes for kids at the Boys and Girls Club in New York. The two had never met even though they both worked for the same bank. Simon had seen her from afar and was waiting for the right moment to make an introduction, so he asked to borrow Jenn's air gauge for the bike he was building. Jenn was intrigued by his British accent and so began their multi-city romance, from NY to LA and Durham, and around the world.

love note

The memory that is most vivid to Jennifer and Simon occurred at the end of the reception. It was the last song, "500 Miles" by The Proclaimers, and the bridal party gathered everyone into a circle around the dance floor. It was magical being surrounded by the most important people in their lives as they started their adventure as husband and wife. At the end of the song, Simon picked Jennifer up and spun her around as the crowd celebrated, a moment they will remember forever.
