THURGOOD MARSHALL US COURTHOUSE BEYER BLINDER BELLE ARCHITECTS VOA ARCHITECTS

Cerami provided acoustical and audiovisual design services for the rehabilitation of the Thurgood Marshall U.S. Courthouse complex. The 720,000 sf building is split into two towers; the lower tower and the upper tower both house the Large District Courtrooms, and the District Courtrooms and US Court of Appeals reside on the upper floors. Our acoustical consultants surveyed existing conditions in representative courtroom spaces to comply with the US Courts Design Guide. We then specified supplemental acoustical absorption for the ceilings and walls, as the majority of spaces consisted of primarily hard, acoustically reflective surfaces. Cerami also upgraded more than 20 Courtrooms with state-of-the-art AV systems. The functions of the Courtrooms include local audio reinforcement, local video presentation of evidence, audio conferencing and videoconferencing.

Video and data images can be easily viewed from several LCD monitors, strategically placed throughout the courtroom. Throughout the project, we have worked to ensure the AV systems being implemented will help simplify court proceedings, and that acoustical solutions would provide clarity of voice, making the courthouse an efficient house of justice.

GSA CHARLES R. JONAS FEDERAL COURTHOUSE BEYER BLINDER BELLE ARCHITECTS VOA ARCHITECTS

Cerami provided acoustical and audiovisual design services for the rehabilitation / modernization to the existing 134,428-sf Charles R. Jonas Federal Courthouse and the addition of a new 198,000-sf Annex. The renovated facility and addition will house three District courtrooms, two Senior District courtrooms, one District Special Proceedings courtroom, two Magistrate courtrooms, and two Bankruptcy courtrooms. The Project will provide space for the United States Circuit, District and Magistrate Courts, United States Marshals Service, United States Probation Office, Federal Public Defender, United States Attorney's Office, and GSA's Public Buildings Service. Design strictly followed GSA PBS-P100, USMS Pub 64, and US Courts Design Guide specifications for equipment, equipment product cut sheets, and configuring AV systems.

Cerami provided acoustical consulting services for the National Museum of American History’s West Wing expansion. This multi-phase renovation includes new exhibition space, innovative and immersive spaces including live theater, concert and film venues and a hands-on collections Object CafÊ.

Our acoustical team conducted studies and analysis of the acoustical conditions in areas of concern and used results to establish acoustical criteria and provide specification of acoustical materials for the various spaces.

Cerami was selected to provide acoustical and security consulting services for the GSA/FTC relocation to a new 205,000 SF space at Constitution Center. This office space houses approximately 1,000 employees and features private offices, open work areas, a conference center, and training rooms.

Cerami provided recommendations for final speaker suspension and mounting, as well as layouts for all speakers in coordination with HVAC, lighting, and other ceiling plenum systems. Our team also prepared a complete technical specification of the Sound Masking System describing components and system performance requirements.

Additionally, Cerami developed security system plans that addressed an Access Control and Alarm Monitoring System and a Video Surveillance System.

G S A G R E E N F E D E R A L B U I L D I N G C O N S O L I D AT I O N ERDY MCHENRY ARCHITECTURE, LLC

Cerami was chosen to provide acoustical consulting services for the GSA Green Federal Building space consolidation project, which effects multiple tenants including the FBI, IRS, DHS and DEA. The William J. Green Federal Building was built between 1970-1973 and is 10 stories above grade and 2 stories below. This project will affect all 10 tenant-occupied floors (approximately 70,000 GSF per floor) and provide tenant interior improvements as well as select building shell system upgrades in order to significantly improve utilization, free up marketable vacant space, and allow local offices to consolidate into a federally-owned facility.

Our team provided acoustical criteria to address background noise levels, Sound Transmission Class, Impact Insulation Class, Reverberation Time, and Speech Privacy Potential. Cerami also reviewed the need for a background sound masking system, and we provided recommendations based on our findings. We provided recommendations for interior finishes in special function areas such as conference rooms and lobby space. These recommendations addressed architectural shapes and the extent and type of sound absorptive finishes necessary.

Additionally, Cerami is reviewing the mechanical systems and equipment for noise control requirements. Our team provided specifications for high noise producing equipment to ensure OSHA requirements were met.

FA N N I E M A E MICHAEL GRAVES & ASSOCIATES

Cerami was selected to provide acoustical, audiovisual, IT, and security consulting services for a multi-phase financial agency project. The new buildings feature both visitor and employee experiences and a lobby, a sky lobby, an entry sequence, and route throughout the building. The West Tower lobby will serve employees, while the East Tower lobby will serve both employees and visitors. The project also consists of bridges and multi-story “town centers� at the terminus of each bridge, a market room/trading floor, a multi-purpose conference center, and dining/cafeteria space.

Our team reviewed the design and established an appropriate acoustical strategy to ensure Class A office standards were met. We developed this strategy through a series of benchmark tests on three of the existing headquarters buildings. Cerami addressed requirements for acoustical separation, demising partitions, doors, the base building, mullions, and sound masking.

Cerami is worked with the project team and client to establish the nature and extent of the required IT infrastructure, systems, and networks. Our audiovisual team produced a program report that addressed audiovisual visioning, programming, design, and construction administration.

Additionally, Cerami is established security program requirements and internal security procedures.

In addition to the Washington DC project, Cerami has recently completed Fannie Mae Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Pasadena projects.

G S A CO N S T I T U T I O N S Q UA R E OFFICE BUILDINGS 3 & 4 HOK

Cerami was chosen to provide acoustical consulting services for the Constitution Square Office Buildings 3 and 4 project.

Office Building 3 is an existing 308,805 SF building that will be transformed into a 375,000 SF core and shell office building. Office Building 4 will be a new thirteen-story building consisting of 442,558 SF. Cerami met with each user group to discuss, evaluate and select a customized solution for each unique conference, huddle and boardroom space. Mock courtrooms were designed with stateof-the-art AV systems to accommodate a myriad of functions including, control room operation, AV recording, streaming, web meetings, annotation, etc. Several of the meeting and office areas were ICD705 protected spaces requiring special attention to the privacy in these suites.

U S O W A R R I O R A N D FA M I LY C E N T E R STUDIOS ARCHITECTURE

The USO Warrior and Family Center is a transitional facility allowing wounded soldiers with the support of their families to transition from their military role into their chosen future roles. Cerami provided Acoustical, Audiovisual, IT and Security design to support STUDIOS in developing an environment to support the core mission of a recovery and respite space where family can be part of the healing process.

The space is bright and open with a connecting lobby that allows easy access to healing, learning, music, entertainment and dining spaces. The acoustics of the space are controlled by enclosing spaces where needed, and providing acoustical finishes to control the space from feeling too busy when filled with families and activity. The IT system provides a great deal of connectivity, supporting mobile access to the network and internet as well as providing the basis for a well developed entertainment, music and video conferencing capabilities for both fun and career development needs of the soldiers.

NYPD POLICE AC ADEMY PERKINS + WILL

In 2007, the city of New York realized a need to modernize and consolidate the NYPD’s current training facilities, many of which were constructed over 40 years ago, that would allow for more tactical training which includes Counter Terrorism and Intelligence programs, and to create a new facility “to provide police officers and recruits with the most advanced law enforcement training facility in the world”.

To accommodate the immediate needs of the city, the new facility was constructed in two phases. The first phase was anchored by an eight-story academic and administrative support building which incorporates tiered classrooms, a large-scale physical training facility that also has tactical gyms simulating actual streetscapes for training purposes, a field house, running track, parking lot, and central utility plant with chillers and boilers for the entire campus.

The academy can handle 2,000 recruits at once, as well as train civilians, active duty officers, and visiting police officers. The campus is aiming for a LEED Silver rating.

GSA HARRISBURG FEDERAL COURTHOUSE ENNEAD ARCHITECTS

Cerami is providing acoustical and audiovisual consulting services for the Harrisburg Federal Courthouse located at 6th and Reily Streets in Harrisburg, PA. The 243,000 sf courthouse will house 8 new courtrooms, Judicial Chambers, Court Support, U.S. Attorney’s Offices, Grand Jury, Bankruptcy Clerk Offices, District Clerk Offices, Trustees Offices and Meeting Room, U.S. Marshals Space, and General Service Administration Offices. Design strictly followed GSA PBS-P100, USMS Pub 64, and US Courts Design Guide specifications for equipment, equipment product cut sheets, and configuring AV systems.

Q U E E N S FA M I LY C O U R T H O U S E GRUZEN SAMTON LLP

Originally the site of a public library, the Queens Courthouse was in dire need of renovation in order to compete with other state-ofthe-art judicial systems. The site of the old public library became the first new court in Queens in 30 years. The new facility now houses 23 courtrooms, waiting rooms, a child center, and numerous city agencies. Cerami & Associates was chosen as both the acoustical and audiovisual consultants for this renewal.

Our audiovisual consultants provided a speech reinforcement system, recording capability in the courtrooms, a paging system, a TV distribution system, and interview rooms equipped with video support to 40 rooms.
