This nationally acclaimed non-credit program was designed by attorneys, judges and paralegals, and is taught exclusively by practicing attorneys and judges. The hands-on program distinguishes itself by its focus on real-world skill sets most in demand by law firms and legal divisions. It is designed with the working student in mind and provides the education you need to begin a paralegal career or advance an existing career in the legal field. Students who earn this certification are eligible for ODU undergraduate credit.
You will learn legal processes, court structure, interviewing, investigation, document preparation, file maintenance, correspondence, research, writing and analysis, as well as substantive topics of law, such as Tort Law, Contract Law and Civil Procedures. Our students also learn LexisNexis and Westlaw, two powerhouses in legal research. Our instructors are all practicing attorneys or judges, which means not only do they hold advanced degrees, but they also have real-world experience and show you how to put theory into practice.
The Executive Certificate in Financial Planning prepares individuals for success in the demanding but highly rewarding financial planning industry. The courses in this program cover the areas of expertise that are needed to develop comprehensive, effective financial plans for a variety of individual clients. Those who successfully complete the program are awarded a certificate of completion by Old Dominion University. Students who earn this certification are eligible for ODU undergraduate credit.

The Certified Medical Assistant Program will prepare students for an exciting and rewarding career in healthcare! Medical assistants perform clinical and administrative duties and assist a variety of providers including physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Your career pathway starts with THREE indemand healthcare certifications: Clinical Medical Assistant, EKG Technician, and Phlebotomy Technician. Students who earn this certification are eligible for ODU undergraduate credit.
Common duties include:
Checking patients in and out upon arrival and departure
Answering phone calls and questions
Assisting providers with exams and procedures
Administering injections or medications
Working with electronic health records (EHR)
Performing EKG, phlebotomy, and laboratory procedures
Taking patients' vital signs
Draw blood from patients and blood donors
Evaluate patients' ability to withstand procedure
Explain blood-drawing procedure to patients and answer questions
Perform basic point-of-care testing, such as blood glucose levels
Prepare blood, urine, and other specimens for testing

The Data Analytics Bootcamp is a part-time, flex, mentor-led Career Bootcamp that covers a variety of tools used to drive and guide complex, big-data-oriented decisions. Learners will become experts in analysis, cleaning, mining, synthesis, and decisionmaking in order to influence key decisions within an increasingly complex business environment.
Over 24 weeks, you will learn how to build, test and deploy software applications using JavaScript on the client- and server-side of an application (front-end + back-end). Starting with fundamentals, you will quickly move into more complex programming concepts that are solidified through challenges, such as: pair programming, weekly projects, lab exercises, and code reviews
The Digital Marketing Bootcamp is a parttime Bootcamp that teaches the essential skills necessary to launch a digital marketing career. Learners will start with the fundamentals and progress through a variety of strategies/topics to solve complex marketing challenges within the evolving tech space.
Starting with the fundamentals, students will quickly advance through topics of increasing complexity, applying creative problem-solving skills to design and iterating designs based on research. This program provides professionals and students in the community with the opportunity to learn more about play therapy or to receive the training necessary to become a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). The Play Therapy program is offered as a series of eight (8) weekend workshops worth 19 continuing education hours each (16 contact CEs and 3 non-contact CEs). Individuals can attend one or all of the workshops.
To become a Registered Play Therapist (RPT), individuals must accrue a total of 150 continuing education hours in play therapy per the Association of Play Therapy (APT). Weekend workshops include the content required by APT for any mental health professional interested in attaining the RPT credential. This course examines how ethical principles can be used to guide effective leadership practices. They will also explore the connections between individual ethics and workplace behaviors, in addition to leadership strategies that promote ethical behavior by workers.
This course addresses leadership in public, private, and non-profit organizations relative to laws that impact such organizations. The Department of Homeland Security has a vital mission to secure the nation from threats. In a larger sense, those responsibilities include coordinated efforts to minimize, address, and respond to terrorism, natural disasters, and other large-scale threats to human life, property, and natural resources.
Due to the nature of homeland security work, candidates pursuing opportunities within the field must meet a criterion not generally required of other professionals. By earning a Graduate Certificate in Homeland Security, you will be equipped to address key areas of homeland security planning and organizational imperatives relative to emergency management. Courses within the Graduate Certification in Homeland Security will help candidates develop key skills like leadership, critical thinking and analysis, logistical planning, communication, and problem solving.
