The Aim of Kinship with the Earth Kinship with the Earth is a curriculum framework which will support schools of the diocese to engage in sustainability practice grounded in a scriptural understanding of stewardship. Sandhurst schools are encouraged through this program to involve students in the establishment of systems and procedures that aim to reduce their impact on the environment. Schools are supported in the process of tracking their energy use, water consumption, waste production and increases in biodiversity in school grounds. This includes the development of a resource management plan for energy, waste and water and the improvement of school grounds and local biodiversity, broad curriculum development and engagement with regional agencies and resources. Most importantly, Kinship with the Earth provides schools and their communities with a sense of hope for a positive and sustainable future and a celebration of God’s creation through Catholic Identity and learning. Kinship with the Earth is aligned to the National Environmental Education Statement through ResourceSmart AuSSI Vic.
