Sovereign & Sovereignty
A leader is best when people barely know that he exists. Less good when they obey and acclaim him. Worst when they fear and despise him. Fail to honour people and they fail to honour you. But of a good leader, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will all say: “We did this ourselves” Lao Tzu
The CENTROFIN Newsletter
Mankind now needs to acknowledge the primacy of the individual and to emphasise the importance of strengthening trans-national organisations and international law.
How can mankind, today, effectively address the challenges we are facing? From the environment, the existing gap between poor and rich, the financial crisis, to epidemics, regional wars, nuclear weapons, international terrorism, piracy, earthquakes, tsunamis, et cetera? The current concept of sovereignty, which is widely thought to mean
national sovereignty, made significantly the twentieth century the bloodiest in human history. It has stood in the way of a better planet and has been the cause of a large number of conflicts. The wise leaders of this abused planet indicate that the best solution are the International institutions to which governments / states -representing different social systems and historical and cultural traditions -- voluntarily delegate some of their sovereignty and work together to solve common problems faced by all mankind, under a genuine & earnest dialogue. We are in need of some Leaders; skilled and courageous, with integrity, that think and look beyond their nose. So what is Sovereignty and for this reason Sovereign? “It is worshiped like a god, and as little understood. It is the cause of untold strife and bloodshed. Genocide is perpetrated in its sacred name. It is at once a source of power and power's abuse; of order and of anarchy. It can be noble and it can be shameful (Alan Cranston)”.

Potential for big spill after oil rig sinks NEW ORLEANS - The oil rig that exploded, caught fire and then sank 36 hours later could lead to a major oil spill, officials said Thursday 22 April, and as a result a remotely operated vehicle is surveying the seas and assets ranging from aircraft to containment booms are ready to be deployed. At a press conference, the officials also said hope was running out for 11 workers still missing after the blast Tuesday night off the coast of Louisiana. The Coast Guard said its search
would probably continue into early Friday. Crews searching for the workers have covered the 1,940-square-mile search area by air 12 times and by boat five times. The boats searched all night. Carolyn Kemp said Thursday that her grandson, Roy Wyatt Kemp, 27, was among the missing. She said he would have been on the drilling platform when it exploded.
