ABCRA Central West Zone
The ABCRA Central West Zone’s ‘Gem Of The West‘ is a new concept commencing in 2025, with the aim of providing an additional competition for our Central West Zone members, as well as giving back to those members who support each of our events throughout the year.
West NSW. 14th - 16th March 2025.
Southern Riverina NSW. 14th - 16th March 2025.
West NSW. 11th - 13th April 2025.
The ‘Gem Of The West’ will be held at 5 locations across our zone, with the final to be held at Orange Campdraft 2025.
It will be a novice campdraft, with both maiden and novice horses eligible to enter. Horse status will be checked.
One horse/one rider combination only. A horse may only be entered in the ‘Gem Of The West’ once, and with one rider only.
Scores will be taken from each ordinary draft’s novice event, with all 5 scores of each combination being totalled, and the top 3 scores will combine to form an aggregate score.
The top 20 aggregate riders will be taken into the final, to be held at Orange Campdraft 2025.
There will be an additional entry fee of $100 per horse/rider combination, which will be a 100% contribution to the prize pool.
Round money to the top 5 placegetters at each event will also be paid. Top 5 will be based off those entered into the ‘Gem Of The West’, and prize pool for each event will be split if an event’s novice draft is split into Novice A & B.
Open to Central West Zone residing competitors only. Eligibility of riders is determined on address listed with ABCRA.
If a horse breaks Open Status before the completion of the ‘Gem Of The West’, that horse/rider combination will no longer be eligible, unless their aggregate score up until that status break qualifies them for the final.
The ABCRA Central West Zone’s ‘Gem Of The West’ will be overseen by the Central West Zone executive. There will be a list of competitors entered distributed to each event’s committee, to ensure riders get the opportunity to be accepted. As the ‘Gem Of The West’ will be run in conjunction with each event’s Novice campdraft, there are no extra physical or financial expectations for each committee involved, and results, point scores and financial payouts will be handled by the Central West Zone executive.
The ABCRA Central West Zone’s ‘Gem Of The West’ entries will be accepted through ABCRA’s iCompete portal, where entries will be open for a week. Entries will then be accepted, and all payments must be made prior to the first event. Official dates will be communicated as soon as they are available.
Competitors must ensure their horse status and residential address is up to date with ABCRA Head Office, as eligibility will be determined by these.
Competitors must also advise the Central West Zone executive of any horse status changes.
The total prizemoney pool is dependent on competitor contribution, as entry fees are a 100% add back to the competition prize pool. The Central West Zone will also contribute to the total prize pool, as will any additional sponsorship sourced.
Each of the 5 events will have allocated prizemoney once entries are confirmed, however we expect each of the 5 events to receive around 5% of the total prizemoney pool, totalling a prize pool of around 25% for the events, and therefore 75% of total prize pool will be allocated to the final, and overall top 20 placegetters.
The overall winner of the ‘Gem Of The West’ will receive a diamond (valued at approximately $2000), a trophy stockwhip, finalist shirt, and cash. All other finalists will receive finalist shirts and cash prizemoney.
Total prizemoney pool and breakdown of all prize money will be made available to all competitors prior to the commencement of the ‘Gem Of The West’.
