LETTER FROM OUR Senior Pastor

Dear Friends,

This month, we end our Lenten journey and begin our celebration of Easter. While Christmas gets all the commercial attention, Easter was the principal Christian holiday for most of Christian history. Hard boiled eggs and the Easter bunny may seem like supporting characters to Christmas gifts and Santa Claus, but the magnitude of what Jesus accomplished on Easter should help us see why Easter has such a central place in our faith.

Easter is the culmination of Jesus’ ministry on earth. In Advent and Christmas, we anticipate Jesus’ arrival in the world and celebrate the mystery that God became one of us and lived among us. On Easter we celebrate why Jesus came to earth in the first place. He died our death on the cross and three days later rose victorious from the grave, breaking the power of sin and death over us. God had been drawing creation toward the events of Christ’s death and resurrection, and on Easter we celebrate that the grave has no power over those who put their faith in Jesus. It is a celebration of Jesus' resurrection and the promise of our own resurrection to new life in Christ.

There is a reason we see overflow crowds on Easter Sunday—it has cosmic significance! Because of the resurrection’s central place in Christian faith and life, and the large number of people who attend worship on Easter, it offers us an incredible opportunity to invite people to see what worship at Central is like. We will have a sunrise service at 7:30 a.m. in addition to our regular Sanctuary and Well services at 10:30 a.m. Please prayerfully consider whom you might invite to Easter worship as we celebrate the good news that Christ is risen.

Last month, I asked you to do three things in preparation for Easter. I offer them again to you now:

1. impactful and meaningful to all who participate in them.

Pray for Easter worship – Let us be united in prayer that our Easter services will be

2. Pray for our guests – Let us be united in prayer for the guests who will be with us on Easter Sunday. Let us pray that God will lead people to Central and that they may be open to Jesus’ call to discipleship.

3. Pray for guidance on whom you might invite – Easter is an opportunity to invite your unchurched friends to see what worshiping God is all about. Ask God to lead you to people you can invite to church on Easter Sunday.

Yours in Christ,

Messagesfrom our Clergy

Associate Pastor

Dear Central Family,

I love hydrangea blossoms! I have loved them since before I understood them The variety in my yard flowers on dead wood When they are dormant, they look dead and worthless There is an urge to give up and cut the branches back like other plants in our garden that we cut all the way back at the end of summer or winter I remember going to the nursery and looking for a hydrangea plant about a year ago There was only one plant left It looked like a Charlie Brown Christmas tree version of a plant Just a stalk with some pitiful leaves, no flowers I would have overlooked it if I hadn't asked someone for help finding a hydrangea As she was describing the ins and outs of hydrangeas, she picked off the few leaves that remained She wanted me to give her money for an ugly brown stalk

The temptation was to give up on the plant. But now, if you look closely, you can see little green buds forming. These are the beginning of next season's stems and flowers. What looks like a dead piece of wood good for nothing but the compost pile is a living thing that will burst with pom-poms of flowers and big beautiful green leaves growing heavenward.

When you are faithful in your prayers and your belief that they are heard and seen by God, they will bear fruit. Even when it may seem like your prayers are dead and useless, when they seem like a lost cause, God is storing up life and energy and power to fulfill them in a coming season we cannot yet see. We are fighting against an enemy who wants us to believe it is pointless to pray. We are tempted to feel defeated, or drain the process of its power until we are just going through the motions. Take heart! Keep praying! Your prayers are a living thing that will bear beautiful blossoms. Our God is a God of Resurrection and we are Resurrection People! Hallelujah!

In Christ, Ann

Rev. Meg Bryce Jiunnies

Pastor of Faith Formation & Discipleship

DearChurchFamily,

This month we celebrate Easter on April 20, after a week of services telling the story of Jesus’s journey to the Cross and Resurrection. Everywhere you turn in Central (inside and out in the community) are opportunities to engage in spiritual practices, and a reminder that we are “Easter” or “Resurrection” people.

Let’s stop for a few moments as you read this and think about the meaning and significance of these offerings. These are all “means of grace” that serve as ways to grow in faith, answer the calling to be ever closer to God, and truly understand the love of Jesus.

These events and activities are such gifts to our lives. Lives that should bear witness to the God’s continued active presence within them, regardless of the challenges of life we face constantly. We receive that gift eternally in salvation through Jesus Christ, and we also receive that gift daily, moment by moment, as it makes this life joyful and full of hope.

This is no small thing. And we have to work at remembering, because we get so caught up in living our best life defined by humankind when nothing comesclosetolivingalifedesignedbyGod.

I encourage you to step out of your regular life’s work today. Be present in this time and intentionally choose a practice that opens your heart and mind to God. Notice who needs these opportunities and reach out in Christian love by being invitational. Stay in love with God, for God is aconstantlylovingpresencetous.

BlessingsandPeace, Meg

Central’s Generosity Update

Thank you for supporting the Sunshine Class Ministry!

On Sunday, March 30, Central celebrated our Sunshine Class, a group created and designed for adults with special needs. This group of Central and community members would not be possible without the time and financial support of this congregation. In turn, our Sunshine Class is one of the most active and giving groups here at Central, having supported a variety of ministries over the years. This is an example of the way that Christian generosity provides returns much beyond what we imagine. Sometimes we forget that our most generous God provides for our every need and more when we open our hearts to partnership with God and one another.

The ministry of Central’s Sunshine Class is one of the many ways your generous financial support makes Central’s mission and ministry possible. As we continue to follow Jesus by loving God and loving our neighbors, the need for financial support has become increasingly significant. We move forward in faith, knowing God will provide what is needed for God’s mission to be accomplished through Central. Your support directly impacts the effectiveness of Central’s mission and ministry.

The Well worship service is truly a team effort, and it thrives because of the support of those who worship here. We are always looking for volunteers to help with set-up on Fridays, take-down after worship on Sundays, decorating, greeting, serving as lay readers, and assisting with Communion. Maybe you have ideas about how to improve the service.

If you’d like to help in any of these ways or want more information, please contact Pastor Ann.

Moody Parlor

This past month has been challenging for our family, but the love and support from our church community have been a true blessing. When we received a warm, home-cooked meal from the church, it was more than just food it was a reminder that we are not alone

Having a meal provided meant the world to us. It gave us time to sit together as a family, pray, and feel the love of Christ through the kindness of others. The hands that prepared and delivered our meal may never fully know the impact they had, but we are deeply grateful. Thank you to our church family for being the hands and feet of Jesus. Your generosity has reminded us of God’s faithfulness, and we are truly blessed to be part of such a caring community

Wednesday, April 2 6:00 - 6:15 PM

Moody Parlor

Central is beginning a fellowship group for women whose spouses have passed away After losing a spouse, life is changed and so are you With the intention of supporting other women experiencing a similar type of grief, searching for hope and renewed joy in life together, and helping one another see God’s presence in Christian community, this group is totally unformed a blank slate. Even if you are unsure that this group is for you, come by one of the interest meetings and share your ideas and thoughts. Grief has no timeline, is unique for each person, and although it inevitable for anyone who loves others, God has given us the blessing of fellowship.
