Fourth Sunday after Epiphany (Green)

Prayer Focus: The Marginalized and Vulnerable

Welcome to worship at Central!

In the name of Jesus Christ, welcome to worship at Central where it is our mission to follow Jesus by loving God and loving our neighbors. Our clergy, Rev. Thomas Smith, Rev. Dr. Ann Kovan, and Rev. Meg Jiunnies, are grateful you’ve chosen to make Central a part of your day today. If it is your first time worshiping with us, please visit the rear Greeters Table and fill out a Connect Card where you will receive a gift from the church. Once again, welcome!

Sermon Series: Where You Are

This season between Epiphany and Lent is a way of walking with Jesus as we are making and being made into disciples. This series invites you to look at where you are. We begin with the familiar and the over-familiar, peering at what we’ve seen so much that we don’t see it anymore. But we need to look; we need to see because this is where we are.

Sermon Note

At first, it's a successful homecoming for Jesus. But what's underneath their approval? They could applaud that they were important and that the kingdom of God was coming to Nazareth. What they rejected was that they weren't the only people in the world. Jesus came to say that God thinks even the stranger, the foreigner, and even the enemy are important enough to save, important enough to love. No wonder they turned to a mob.

(Offering one another signs of reconciliation and love within worship is an ancient Christian practice. This is a time to greet others, both familiar and new, whether in your seat, at a table, or while refilling your cup and plate. The countdown on the screen will alert you when it’s time to return to your seats for the next act of worship )
